Haven't seen from a long time a diamond of knowledge disguised as a youtube video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Encouraging your students to consider careers as plumbers or electricians is a great idea. These trades offer strong job security, competitive pay, and opportunities for entrepreneurship. Plus, skilled tradespeople are always in demand, making it a stable career choice. It also allows them to gain hands-on experience and potentially avoid the high costs of a traditional college education. By promoting these careers, you're highlighting the value of essential skills that society relies on daily. How do your students generally respond to this suggestion?
Just to clarify, I'm not encouraging my students to consider careers specifically as plumbers or electricians. I'm just saying it's important to be open to other opportunities. For example, one thing that comes to mind are editors who have been recently promoted to the chair. They might be struggling to find work right now since so many experienced editors are available. Competition is fierce! So maybe those people will need to look at assistant editor jobs. That means that their goal of growing an editing career might have to take a backseat at the moment. Or maybe if they wanted to keep editing scripted TV well maybe now they go work in local news. Those are just some examples. Then there is the whole idea of just finding a completely different career. I do think it is important to have a plan B, or at least think about it. But I also do mention that we shouldn't just give up on our goals completely. It's a case by case basis honestly. We have to look at our specific situation. The main thing here is to just be open to change and trying other things, and to understand that maybe right now we will have to put certain goals on pause. This video was inspired by a recent group coaching call with my students so it's a topic that's clearly on a lot of peoples' minds. I think they respond well to this suggestion, but it might also be something that takes a while to digest. I say this from my own personal experience dealing with this topic. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!

Thanks for sharing Joaquin! I need to try the meditation.
I highly recommend it!
Cool vidéo
Glad you enjoyed it!
lmao, the on-fire-camera :D But yeah, great tips! I Need to work on 6 definitely
🔥🔥🔥 Camera wasn’t having it with the heat, but it made it through the shoot! And yes definitely make it a point to go outside and enjoy life away from the computer. Thanks for watching!
Great insight! Thanks :)
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
This really helps! Thanks for taking the time to teach! Good fortune to you!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for sharing! This is really insightful. I know it's a stream-of-consciousness-type video, but would you be able to add video chapters for videos like this? The actual content doesn’t start until about a minute in, and the first thing you talk about is getting coffee-both sections I might have skipped.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate the feedback!
hey Joaquin, I think it might be cool to see what your day looks like when you're between jobs, if that's not too intrusive. Like what do you do to decompress from the last job, what are you doing to prep for the next one, how do you keep structure in your life or do you, how are you honing your skills or learning new ones?
Excellent idea. Will work on putting it together. Thanks for the suggestion!
Would you recommend having a part time job to support yourself unrelated to film?
If that would allow you to stay in LA and hit up networking events or set up meetings with people, then yea that totally works.
I cant imagine leaving LA just to move back. You either are gonna wait this out or leave and delve into another career. Nothing wrong with the latter
What are your thoughts on staying or leaving an expensive city during a slow job market?
Lol that Vegas to LA drive will get old the very first time you do it. As someone who moved out to LA right as the strikes started, It's been tough but I couldn't imagine leaving, this is the spot to be. Thanks as always for the insight, Joaquin!
@@brandonmorocco Terrible drive, specially on a Sunday! You made the right move.
@@HollywoodEditingMentor Oh my god yeah, I did it once then I’ve flown every other time hahah.
What do you use for storage at home? Do you use a RAID or NAS? How do you backup and archive?
My main storage/working drive is an 8 TB RAID. But I also have a bunch of other hard drives of different sizes for backup/archive. I also have a 2 TB external SSD for my Mac Mini.
@@HollywoodEditingMentor that’s great. And that’s ample space for RAID 5? I’m working on short form content for social and TH-cam right now, but I do the occasional documentary short.

Do you need to live in LA to get represented? I'd love to do more film editing, but don't really have the option to move to that area. Thanks!
I wouldn't say you absolutely _need_ to live in LA to get represented.
Excellent tips, but I wish the interview was a little longer. Im not sure if its the accent or her attitude, but I wanted more of Bella Roberts!☺️
The full episode is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you like to listen to podcasts. I agree, Bella is great!
Man this was really helpful. I've been trying to figure out what all that 100 hrs stuff and the list meant. This gave me tremendous direction.
So happy to hear you found this helpful!
What are some good editors agencies to reach out to?
There are several talent agencies that represent editors. Some I can think of at the moment include UTA, WPA, Innovative Artists, Gersh, Eastern Talent, CAA, WME, Murtha Skouras.
Loved being a part of this panel. Joaquin is a great host and an incredible editor and artist! I'd go to war with you any day sir!
Thank you so much! It was great chatting with you and the rest of the WELCOME TO WREXHAM editing team. Such a fun group. Hope to see you again soon my friend!
Good video...
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Thank you so much for this helpful video, and congrats again for Griselda's awesome work!
Thank you! And glad you found this video helpful!
Wait for me on Netflix
Hey love your work!
@@HollywoodEditingMentor I like yours! I hope there will be more interesting videos in you
Do you have a "client monitor" -- that is, a dedicated monitor only for showing the Record side of the Avid composer window? How do you set it up?
I do have the ability to connect a client monitor at home using a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Monitor box, but I stopped using it because the desk isn't big enough and the fact that clients don't come to my house to view material. At the office I do need it since I work with directors and producers. Thanks for watching!
@@HollywoodEditingMentor Amazing-- thank you. (Just found your channel via this video. I'll be back!)
Wow this is amazing! Great technology that I’m sure we will see used on more productions.
Yea it's awesome!
How are you today, elizondo? Do you convert to high-definition format dnx hqx 10bit in Avid for the Netflix series, and what is the final format for export ? Greetings and thx for info
Hello there! I believe we were using DNX 36 for the offline edit. I'm not completely sure what was the final delivery format and specs as that was handled by another company. Thanks for watching!
Have you seen GRISELDA? Let us know in the comments below!
You guys worked on Griselda for about a year? That’s crazy! I thought it should be at least 6 months considering the amount of editing is needed for such scale projects, especially the Narcos: Mexico seasons. You guys are the absolute legends, and I’m glad I found this channel as I’m a very big Narcos series series fan myself and enjoyed Griselda a lot as well! It’s interesting to learn how these series were edited. I’m not an editor or something like that, I mainly do TH-cam shorts for my channel and some small edits from time to time. I know it must have been tremendous amount of work on these Narcos: Mexico and Griselda projects, tons of editing and lots of experimenting too. I have a question. I know there’s lots of material which didn’t make it to the final version of the series. Maybe you guys have some Narcos: Mexico stuff (bloopers for example, and of course moments that got cut out). That’d be awesome to get my hands on that kind of gold as it’s not available anywhere and I guess only the editors perhaps have the possession of it. Would love to share it all with more people on my Narcos fan community. Just asking, if you don’t have it or don’t know if someone has it, that’s okay. Just let me know. Also you got a new sub!
Thank you! Happy to hear that you're a fan of these shows. They've been a blast to work on. I would think you'd have to go through Netflix to get that material you're interested in. Cheers!
Congratulations 🍾 I’m going to watch this soon!! Dope!!
Thank you!
Beaut, big congrats Compa. And thank you for the great advice about letting people know/ showing interest that you are interested in working on future projects
Thank you! Yes it’s very important to put yourself out there and communicate what you want and your goals.
Thank you for sharing your experience, it was a dope series! I made sure to watch the credits to see your name pop up! It definitely was a film feel vs a series, I loved that! Since 2019 is crazy though but it’s gotta be an even crazier feeling to see it all unfold and come to life! ❤
Happy to hear you enjoyed the series. It was a blast working on it.
