If you had posted this video three or so weeks ago I would have had some serious doubts about how effective, as a hunting rifle and round, the K31 could be.....Not anymore....A close friend of mine back home purchased one last year and spent months working up handloads for the K31.....Last week I had the pleasure of observing him sighting in his K31 at 100, 200, and all the way out to 800 yards with his handloads....Over open sights for hunting purposes.....You can now color me a believer. Excellent video as usual! Keep 'em comin'!!!
A local gun store had one, but the rifling was pretty much shot out. This same store had a Kraig- Jorgenson, which is another gun I find intriguing. Unfortunately at my age I think my gun buying days have passed by.
Gahh those First two rounds seem like they're hitting inches from the camera!!! So awesome! Man those k31s are beautiful rifles. thanks so much for all the awesome content guys, I have learned more watching iv8888 than I ever thought possible. I hope to be able to become a patreon or man can subscriber soon!
Yeah, he's a good shot and all but I REALLY want a K31 video without him in it....he just seems awkward in front of a camera, and the whole smartass comment thing...what a little prick
I have shot 1/2 MOA at 800 with an accurized, appropriately scoped, heavy barreled, Remington 700 in .308 I own. It is not as easy as some people think it is-and that particular rifle is my most accurate weapon. Hitting a steel plate at 800 over iron sights with an “as issued” milsurp rifle is pretty damned good shooting! I am impressed. The more I see of those K31s, the more I think I might like to have one.
Very nice shooting. 800 yards is no joke with open sights. A testament to what these old guns can do. I have a 1936 K31, has the troop tag, sling dated 1938, muzzle cap and all matching numbers. It and my m39 along with my m1917 are the most accurate original milsurps I own.
hatim laamri Classic had some a year or so ago, I bought mine when they were selling the civil guard rifles. It’s a SK.y marked gun. But it has its original war time stock, and the barrel looks “new”. I reload it with D166 rounds made from the formula that Eric provided in his D166 video. With those rounds, it competes well with the K31. But I’m still partial to my m1917, it still has its original 5 groove barrel dated September of 1917, which coincides with the serial number on the receiver. It prints 1 inch groups at 100 right at point of aim if I do my part. I’ve used it to hammer 1/2 pound tannerite at 100, which isn’t an easy feat given how small those things are...and I’m not some competition shooter, just been shooting since I was about 8 years old (I’m 44 now). Love the old milsurps, the challenge of open sights, the history...just a lot of fun.
hatim laamri I bet! Yeah, some are good deals, some aren’t with Classic. I stay away from their K98 offerings, and I don’t really like their rebuild projects I have seen as far as US milsurps.
Such a good damn shooter Eric, 800y , the rifle is flawlessly. Note the result in Eric while concentrating & aiming the first 3 shots and the first ones of reloads , they re all hits. That’s good shooting discipline . Amazing . My favorite match rifle . Cheers from uruguay 🇺🇾
Whooo my man can shoot!!! Dang iron sights at 800?! The young man needs practice but that's a hard shot in general... But man that's on point for Irons!!!
Yeah, I agree with the others,..that's a helluva long way to hit that gong! I'm glad you're using my favorite 'mil-surp' rifle too,...I do enjoy shooting with my K31. Thanks for the video, again.
At most auto-parts stores you can find terry towels that fold up and you can carry in your back pocket. They're absolutely fantastic for wiping the sweat from your eyes and brows. Invest $6.oo for your comfort.
It's this kind of shooting that terrified the Germans in WWI, engaged by the 2nd & 3rd Marine divisions I believe at Belleau Woods. There they engaged the Germans (multiple units) from 800 to 1000+ yards inflicting many casualties. So many that they were unable mount the attack they were to make because troop formations were scattered throughout the woods.
Eric, that's why I like the larger caliber rifles. Long distance shooting can slow the enemy's approach to close-quarters combat which in turn can save the lives of your squad mates. The more you take out at long distance the fewer approach your lines. But that's easier said than done if you have incoming motar fire and RPG's. But the practice of long distance kills is still sound.
Its allways a pleasure to see K31 at long distances. There are special K31 with original scope mounted on. You should try on of this. Need one? Just give me a hint...
Awesome video! I need to find a place to stretch my K-31 out that far. Furthest I've shot it is 300 and it's so accurate that it gets a little boring, lol. I need a challenge 😋. You guys need to take the 03 Springfield out to 600 😉
Straight bolt action like the Mexican Mondragon rifle also made in Switzerland more than a hundred years ago; Nice Accuracy at eight hundred yards with Swiss K31 rifle guys very good deal.
Eric , I know this ammo is known for its consistency . I was able to call the shots with about 99 % correctness based on the muzzle jump and twist while it was under recoil . I believe a good hand load with neck sized reloaded brass will make your shots more accurate . With that being said I am still impressed with that surplus factory ammo . Great shooting buddy .
I'd love to see some close-up very slow motion of the bullet coming into the target at this distance. What I'd like to see is the angle of trajectory and cant of the bullet as it is coming in from this distance.
Love mine want to get mine out now. I have the sporter Smidth and have not shot it because I am told there is no ammo for it. Wish yall could do a video how to reload for that rifle. I would be happy to buy the ammo from you guys if you loaded it.
Sight reflection? Why you need to have either some flat black tape or a flat black marker. I usually have no issues with sight reflection unless the bluing is really worn.
I’ve hit a 2ft plate at 928 yards with my K31, open sights, and GP11. Of course it was 2 shots in 18 rounds that hit the gong but if it was a squad of Germans they’d be shitting their pants.
Like I said b4 on another long shot, u need to get the 1 mile range camera or what ever it's called so u can us ur phone or tablet to see where u are hitting. Close up few. And u can REVIEW it also. hehe
Truely nice shooting. Wished we had a 800 yard range here.... I would like to see the comparison between M96 sweden mauser and K31 if you have some spare time. Here in Germany the sweden mauser is what you see most in competition. I try to convince a lot of shooters that the K31 is better but stubbern as the germans are... Greetz from Germany
yea, i agree. In my opinion the K31 is better. Shot them both but its hard to convince the other shooters here that shot the M96 for many years and are convinced its the best there is
I own that rifle, it's really awesome. The only problems are copyright about bullets, practically coerced to use full metal jackets from army, other manufacturers are too expensive because they need to pay to produce the GP11. Still one of mine had the barrel a bit damaged :(, on 300 meters it goes out of 2-3cm. Very precise but the recoil, if the barrel bore is still around 7.52-7.53mm, is something heavy ahah, 30 shots and your shoulder start to bleed. Our shooting ranges are 300 meters, usually for competition they can use only diopters, you cannot use a bipod if you aren't at least 60 years old. Most shooter use a shooting jacked to attach the rifle belt to the shoulder to help keeping the rifle up. The k11 long rifle and the k31 carabine are very precise, I saw an old man doing, using bipod obviously, he was 87 years old, on 300 meters 100.85 points on 10 shots. Maximum is 100 00 (means 100% precision), he was around 99.98%, so he not only got the center, but the center of the center too..., with the aim moved 4cm to the left, he was right handed but right eye was gone. That was the most impressive stuff i saw personally on any sport discipline ever.
Eric, I would love to see an intermediate level AR meltdown. Specifically Aero Precision. I have 3 uppers from them and love them; never had a failure even when using shitty ammo. And I run mine hard. I don't get to shoot often so usually when I go out I go through about a case of .223 within a couple of hours.
"When any serviceman"... yeah, the kid is doing a knock out job, and while the Swiss didn't play around, this is pistol range for Jerry M! I can't even see a target that far off, with glass, let alone sights, so there's that.
Could a G36 take AK style mags? I've noticed on my G36C airsoft replica, the mag has a ledge on the side like an AK. Most likely a no due to caliber and casing sizes but just wanted to ask.
Great vid and shooting. Though very slight criticism, the usual close camera shot is in a better position for me. To many of the close misses could not be seen properly. Got to love that bullet crack though.
Thx for this nice shooting and greetings from germany. You should do the same with a swedish Mauser M96. I own one from 1908 ... and it is a great shooter, too. Longest distance i shoot it was on 475 meter. I loved it. Better results than my remingzon m700 in .308.
The long range milsurp series is my fav, love these!!
That gun just flat out shoots! Those Swiss straight pull bolt guns have to be some of the coolest rifles ever.
They are! If you don't have one, I HIGHLY recommend getting one. You will not regret it.
A local gun store had one, but the rifling was pretty much shot out. This same store had a Kraig- Jorgenson, which is another gun I find intriguing. Unfortunately at my age I think my gun buying days have passed by.
Open sight 800 yards? Dang good shoting. A lot of people couldn't hit that far out with a scope.
Lots of missed shots. And you're using spotting aid. You done given away your own position. Stop making that rifle more than what it is.
@@dam1041960 Relax bud the gun can only do so much, just like any rifle. Compliments to the *shooter*
A battle rifle is not a "snipper" rifle.... One you need a rifle that has being worked over and match grade/ hand loaded rounds
@@dam1041960 why are you commenting?
The 1st.A ! Go 2a!
Damn Eric, that's incredible that you guys can hit with that thing at 800! I enjoy your content... keep up the good work!
*THIS is the video I wanted for a long time! Thanks!*
Outstanding! I love seeing these old beauties in action!
“You’re still hitting to the left” “yeah I’m going to keep the same point of aim” “Ok! You do that”. That kid is a smartass.
Yeah, he's a good shot and all but I REALLY want a K31 video without him in it....he just seems awkward in front of a camera, and the whole smartass comment thing...what a little prick
I don't think he was trying to be a smart ass lol
Agreed.
You’re making me want a K31 more and more damnit
Idk who this guy is but I prefer him outside of hearing distance.
Qualified at 500 yards with an M14 ... need young eyes for this distance ... all the best!
Gotta love old surplus rifles still slinging lead where you want it.
Greatness in it's simplicity! THANK YOU GUYS!!!
Love shooting through irons, love shooting old guns. Said this before to you guys and I'll say it again. Keep this stuff coming LOVE IT!!!
I have shot 1/2 MOA at 800 with an accurized, appropriately scoped, heavy barreled, Remington 700 in .308 I own. Pretty cool to hear the super sonic crack of those rounds 800 yards away
Keep the K31 videos coming guys.
14 people who can't shoot worth a dang disliked this video.
Deadrift89, no, they are Democrats on a salary.
What is the location of your profile picture?
Love the long range videos. Especially with Irons, my specialty.
JackOSUrulz too cool!👍
Nice, i have a K31 , beech wood, still looking for my M39.

yeah , you can't imagine how heart breaking seeing guns at classics and not be able to buy them. i live in Canada
hatim laamri I bet! Yeah, some are good deals, some aren’t with Classic. I stay away from their K98 offerings, and I don’t really like their rebuild projects I have seen as far as US milsurps.
Eric, man...I could watch these type videos all day long!
I am thoroughly impressed with that gun and the both of your shooting ability.
I love the K31 and M39 video's!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the video guys been waiting on this one:)
I need to get more 7.5 Swiss. Between my 6.5 Swede, and my K31, those people made good guns!

Open sights shooting is the way to go. IMO
Andrew Dalton Ray amen to that
Yeah, I agree with the others,..that's a helluva long way to hit that gong!

Eric's hell of a shot!
Dammit Eric you're a hell of a good shot!
Also have one and love it ❤
Nice shooting. Havin' a little bit of fun stretching the limits with open sights and less than perfect ammo. A good day at the range.
Persol shades and a Hamilton timepiece dang good taste for a good ole boy!!!
Awsome Shooter and of course great rifle ;)
Its allways a pleasure to see K31 at long distances. There are special K31 with original scope mounted on. You should try on of this. Need one? Just give me a hint...

Those first 2 shots seen freaking close to the camera!

God dang I need one of these in my life
You both did some fine shooting it was a blast to watch. Always love to see what these milsurps can do.
Hey you should try to do a shotgun melt down like a aa-12 or semi-auto. Just a thought for a later on video.
Shotgun meltdown would be fun. I'd like to see a Vepr or any ak12 type gun.
that was entertaining! like the k31 alot
"Great shooting, kid, but don't get cocky!" With the voice of Harrison Ford in Star Wars 😄
Love mine. Always stocking up on ammo. Getting hard to find, & pricy. See a K31, buy it.
That's some good shooting. 👍
I wanna try! Very very impressive. 800 yds is a looong way w irons.
Very Impressive
Awesome shooting!!
We need to see you take out the Martini to 800, guys.
I'd love to see some close-up very slow motion of the bullet coming into the target at this distance. What I'd like to see is the angle of trajectory and cant of the bullet as it is coming in from this distance.

Incredible really ,considering it's open sights and service ammunition!.
Nice challange for that kid!
Thanks guys love yall

Sweet, who says a military rifle isn't accurate!
I'd say the K31 is the exception, not the rule
it is a swiss rifle, even their knifes have under 1moa if thrown
K31 + GP11 = killer accuracy.
That's not just any rifle. It's Swiss.
Hey how about some .338 or .50 cal love? Milsurp's are fun but get some variety in there!
Eric, favorite rifle if you had to pick one K31 or M39?
Smart young man
Like I said b4 on another long shot, u need to get the 1 mile range camera or what ever it's called so u can us ur phone or tablet to see where u are hitting. Close up few. And u can REVIEW it also. hehe
it wouldbe good to see some work with the .224 val.
Truely nice shooting. Wished we had a 800 yard range here....
I would like to see the comparison between M96 sweden mauser and K31 if you have some spare time.
Here in Germany the sweden mauser is what you see most in competition.

Me too
Read your post too late. Wrote the same ...
yea, i agree. In my opinion the K31 is better. Shot them both but its hard to convince the other shooters here that shot the M96 for many years and are convinced its the best there is
Both are fantastic military rifles.
I shot my M1917 for the first time iron sights 300 yards which was the longest distance I had available to me
I own that rifle, it's really awesome. And I run mine hard. I don't get to shoot often so usually when I go out I go through about a case of .223 within a couple of hours.
Drop the 600 yards videos, 800 yards is the new 600 from now on!
"When any serviceman"... yeah, the kid is doing a knock out job, and while the Swiss didn't play around, this is pistol range for Jerry M!
I can't even see a target that far off, with glass, let alone sights, so there's that.
Nice shooting guys! How big is the gong anyway? I cant imagine seeing mine at that distance.
He's a good shot

Sweet k31 nice shooting
😎🤙
Very nice shooting. I would love to try some open sight long distance shooting. Just need a good rifle and a good spotter.
Eric, I'd love to see you shoot this distance with the CMMG Anvil in .458 Socom.
Can i get uhhhh.... m1 garand at 600yards?
>IWCDW?
Been wanting that myself for a long while now too!
love me some old guns.
Great vid and shooting. Though very slight criticism, the usual close camera shot is in a better position for me. To many of the close misses could not be seen properly. Got to love that bullet crack though.
Boom! Crack! Ding!.........Love it!!!!
Can a k31 be fired with bolt not completely in battery let say 2 mm out love your channel thanks
still waiting for the whitworth eric !!!!
Need to show some over the shoulder shots. To show people just how far that is
I love you guys but Eric drives me crazy when he starts to snatch that trigger.
Not sure how I feel about this remington kid
Please do a top five carry revolver video
Thx for this nice shooting and greetings from germany. You should do the same with a swedish Mauser M96. I own one from 1908 ... and it is a great shooter, too. Longest distance i shoot it was on 475 meter. I loved it. Better results than my remingzon m700 in .308.
Makes me want a K31. *checks gunbroker*...dang Eric, WTF did you do to the market?!
