    I just scored my ultimate Swiss unicorn for $395!It was sold as an 1889 but is actually an unconverted 1889/96 and as if that's not enough it seems to be a trials rifle with the bolt having serial number 5 and the band, nose cap, trigger guard, and magazine being number 6. I have an 1889/11 Schmidt Ruben straight pull rifle I bought last year and I have fired it. The straight pull bolt takes a bit of getting used to I want to try and pull down when I moved the bolt but its straight pull actually helps your reset the target picture and they are very accurate.Yes I noticed RTI is selling 1889/11's, K11's and K31's at a much lower price than I paid for mine and they are coming from Switzerland not from Ethiopia which is a plus in my book.

    When they first showed up, a dealer was selling K-31s for $90. Early 2000s. The military ammo is designed for the rifle. I shot mine against 3 03 springfields at a gallon jug out 400 yards in a plowed field free hand. The K 31 put a hurting on them 03s. I hit the jug twice in about 15 shots. I second everything he is saying. They are fun to shoot. Paid $200 each for the 1911s, $295 for the 96/11 long rifle, $395 for the 1889 in .22 long rifle. 1889 accuracy is not good at all. Surprised it was not good.

    i feel like the main problem with surplus today isnt the cost of the guns but the price of ammo for them. it would be like if toyota had a blowout price on camrys but they only function with premium gas.
    mosins and mausers are the only full size milsurp with even remotely affordable ammo right now. 30-06 is starting to drift into the expensive realm now too

    • @NOLIFENECKBEARD

      I agree 100% hints why I just saved my money on buying odd caliber rifles and bought a svt 40 and Egyptian fn 49 to go with my 8 mosin variations and 7 8mm mausers. I love my m38 carcano, type 99 and number 4 mark 1* but ammo hurts the wallet when shooting those. I can run light Ball through my svt 40 all day and as long as I take an hour to clean the piss out of it, it's all day fun.

    This year, I've acquired a Swiss K11 for $399, a Spanish Mauser Model 1893 for $395, a Norinco SKS for $470, a Nagant Revolver M1895 for $300, and a CZ-82 for $300. There are somewhat affordable surplus guns still on the market, you just have to know where to shop. Go to local gun stores, especially mom and pop places. You'll never find surplus like they were 10 years ago, or even before COVID, but there are still some great firearms on the market. Also, don't pay gunbroker prices.

  • @Chiller11
    @Chiller11 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    GP11 ammunition is getting harder to come by in my area. It was unobtanium for 9 to 12 months or so but it appears some has hit the market in the last month. Obviously the 7.5mm Swiss cartridge is currently manufactured so you will be able to shoot your rifle but the GP11 is as high a quality as the rifles that shoot it.

    • @otimme
      @otimme ปีที่แล้ว

      The GP11 is manufactured by the state. There is no official data on the ammunition such as V0 data. The quality varied from batch to batch and can sometimes be really bad. In addition, the projectile of the GP11 is a steel-jacketed bullet that puts more stress on the barrel than other 7.5x55 Swiss ammunition. I never shoot my K31 with GP11, but with ammunition from Sellier & Bellot, for example.

      K31's are a bit more accurate than the previous swiss straight pull rifles. K11's shoot decent too don't get me wrong. But the K31 has it's reputation for accuracy for a reason, trust me. PPU does make 174 grain soft points for hunting. 7.5x55 Swiss is pretty much equal in power to 7.62x51mm.

    In the early/mid-1990's, I remember some small department stores having 55 gallon drums full of old military surplus rifles from the WW1 and pre-WW1 eras, all packed in cosmoline. They could be purchased for less than $100.....many were in the $50 to $80 range and were in beautiful condition, various Mausers, Mosin-Nagants, while the Enfields and Springfields were in the $100-$150 range. Kind of crazy when you think about it now. SKS's and Norinco MAK-90's could be had for around $100...or less!

      Schmidt-Rubins were $37.50 when I first saw them, at K-Mart and Gibson's, in 1967. Moisin-Nagants were $17.95. Of course people were making a dollar or two an hour back then, so they weren't really that much of a bargain when you think about it. But the supply and variety of surplus military weapons was unbelievable.

      Not a fan of these things, either. Not only have they never been in a war (the last time the Swiss fought a war it was in 1847 with themselves) but they never even sold them to a third party that used them in a war. They have zero military history as far as I'm concerned. I mean they're obviously well built but the lack of history attached to them is a turnoff for me.
