    Hi Todd,
    This is a very well orchestrated instructional video to which I thank you.
    This brief video effectively bridged a lot of gaps for me regarding the integration of the UA Console, Hardware and DAW(s).
    Kudo’s to the team for pulling this all together without the cheekiness we find so prevalent in many of these type of videos.
    Delivery was Kind, articulate and substantive. The Platinum Standard ! A Real One. The goal is never be constrained by technology but to leverage the tools to put something pleasing between the speakers and into the domes of our beloved listener.
    Hard to be creative if you’re locked up in a technical cell !
    I also don’t understand why those seeking knowledge bash others who are trying to assist.
    If you have nothing of value to contribute then hit the mute button and move on and find what works for you.
    Toxicity has no place in creating anything of value.
    Let’s all be on our best behavior, I understand the frustration but please everyone have some social resolved and ask oneself how would you feel if someone bashed you.
    Let’s Make Some Music Y’All and kill the noise !

      I don’t have any videos at the moment. But the routing is similar to my analog summing video. Make sure to check that out. A lot of this depends on which Apollo you have in terms of how to set it up. Also, make sure to really understand how to use a patch bay. Why do you want it? Do you want the connections normalled? Do you understand how this will affect your mixes moving forward?

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the kind comment! In regards to the outputs on the back, you can use your cue mixes to send to outputs. Just go to cue outputs on the bottom right and have them route to physical outputs instead of your Headphones. Hope that helps!

    Great video - I'm having a hard time getting rid of double monitoring of the DAW (PT in my case) in the Console Virtual 1-2 channels. When a track is armed in PT, it's also going through the Virtual Channels (because it's going to the MASTER channel in PT) AND the UA Console. This makes the Low Latency completely useless in PT. I didn't have this on my older machine (running same version of PT). You mention a Hearback system video in this video - but I can't find it in your video list. Can you direct me there? Thanks much!

    • @ToddUrban

      In PT you will either need to mute the track while recording, or when it is record armed, you can pull down the red record fader and leave the mix level one at full volume. (There is a setting you need to change in your settings to have the record fader decoupled)

    That would be great if you could just do a short and simple tutorial about how to use efficiently the UAD console with Logic. For instance after having set everything up (thanks about this) I have not been able to find a single video showing how to record a midi sequence in audio using UAD plugins. Is it also possible to send two different tracks in Logic (for instance two audio or midi signal) in two different tracks in the UAD console?

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think part of the problem as I read through your comment is that you are expecting Console to do more than it is intended to do. It basically has 2 functions. The first is to setup your preamps or insert plug-ins on the way into your DAW. The other is to setup monitoring. From what I'm hearing you ask, it sounds like you are thinking Console 2.0 is more about mixing. You also mention a MIDI sequence, and unless you are using external MIDI hardware, MIDI really doesn't come into play in Console.
      So I think the answer you are looking for is that you need to learn to insert the plug-ins as inserts in your DAW so that you can process these channels. But maybe I misunderstood.

    P.S. The only workaround I know on a Mac is to go to Cue 1 and while holding Option, press mute on any channel or move a fader to bring the entire mix down. This would be so much easier if there was a Cue Fader w Mute/ Solo.

      I’m not sure there is a way. There isn’t a cue master fader. However, the cues are typically feeding the headphone amps on the apollo or being routed to an external amp, so usually I’ll have the artist adjust the full cue level from these physical knobs. Your video was SUPER helpful, so THANK YOU! I was hoping you could help me out as something seems slightly off even though I thought I followed your directions to the T... I have an Apollo x4 and Logic Pro and named the virtual outputs in Console the same way you did. Did the steps in Logic Pro you suggested, but if I go in Logic Pro to Settings > Audio > I/O Assignments > Output, it lists the output as "Virtual 3/4" instead of the "x4 DAW" title I gave in Console, and if I click on the output button/selector of any of the tracks in Logic Pro, it lists them as "Stereo Output, Output 3-4 (Line 1/2), Output 5-6 (Line 3/4), ...... Output 11-12 (Virtual 3/4)..." instead of the names I entered in Console. Strange thing is all the inputs that I can select on the track in Logic Pro DO have the names I gave in Console. I thought I should be able to see "x4 DAW" listed as an output option instead of "Visual 3/4". In practice though, it seems to route things to the right place as I can hear everything correctly, but it's just bugging me that it's not showing up nicely the way yours did in the video.
    Aside from that - once everything is working again - I should always have Logic Pro outputted to my virtual channel in Console? Is that a safe general assumption?
    Thanks so much for any help!

All I want to be able to do is when I track vocals send the daw to my 4 channel headphone amp and be able to turn mic vocals up and down separately from the instrument track that is coming from the daw. On my ID 14, all I had to do was hit one button to switch between monitors and headphones. My plan is to use two TRS cables from line outputs 3 &4 from the Apollo twin to the inputs of my headphone amp or go from the headphone output on the Apollo to the inputs on the headphone amp. I heard you say you have a video explaining this but I can't find it. Please provide link, please and thank-you.

      It depends on your setup. If you are using the monitor outs on the Apollo, yes, that would correspond to 1/2. I however, send everything out a separate output for analog summing and do not use the Apollo monitor outs. Make sure to open your Pro Tools settings and delete all of your output paths and then use the default ones. If you do, you will be able to have the labels in Pro Tools match that of whatever you set in your Apollo I/O settings.

    I do apologise if it's already been mentioned somewhere, I'm somewhat of a beginner with recording, but at around 11:05, where you shown the audio can go straight through to Logic. Does doing this mean you won't get the low latency of the Apollo doing the audio processing and it will instead go directly to logic and use the I/O buffer setting set on there?

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, what I am showing there is something totally different. You can either have your DAW go to a virtual channel or you can have it go to the main outputs of the Console app. Either way, you benefit from the low latency of recording with an Apollo, as that benefit is on the input side. At 11:05, I am talking about the output of the DAW. One caveat, be careful with putting any plug-ins on your master output (or stereo output) that might have large latency. This can cause an issue where there you think you are recording in time, but are actually late due to the latency. Hope that helps!

      If your DAW is set to the Apollo and you send to a virtual channel, you should see it. Try setting to different output and see if it comes through. I consider buying an Apollo Interface because of the integration with Softube Console 1 Fader. So my goal would be to have a mixer with at least 16 stereo channels which would be controlled by the faders of the Softube Console 1 Fader. So let's say I need to have 16 virtual stereo channels in my Apollo Console Software. Is it possible to do that or is the number of the virtual channels on the X4 limited to 8 virtual mono channels? I have downloaded the Apollo Software on my Mac and I can play with it even without having an Apollo Interface connected to it. So I know there is a slider where you decide how much DSP Powers goes into creating virtual channels, but it seems that on the X4 the number is limited to max 8 virtual channels. On the other hand in the I/o Matrix there are options to create user i/o configurations where you can create for example 32 channels for Pro Tools?! This confuses me or is there something that I am missing? At the end of the day I just want to have a mixer with 16 stereo inputs which can be controlled with the faders of the Console 1 Fader Hardware. Do I have to spend a lot of money for a high end interface like the x16 or could this be achieved also with something like the Apollo Solo Thunderbolt?

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! So, Console 1 Fader is awesome for controlling your Apollo. It will control whatever you have setup, and even follow if you combine channels 1 and 2 into a stereo fader. It does not carry over if you "hide" channels, as they are still there on your Apollo, so really, the product is following what the Apollo has.
      As for the number of virtual channels, this is a limitation set by Universal Audio. I believe this is due to the DSP chips, but this would be better answered by UA directly. So as far as I know, 8 virtual channels is the max. (though I really only use 2 stereo pairs of virtual channels in my setup) But whatever you have setup in your I/O and other Apollo settings will be followed by Fader. Hope that helps.

      @@ToddUrban Thank you. Maybe I am thinking in the wrong direction because I assume that you need for example 16 virtual mono/8 stereo channels if you want to controllthem with 8 Faders on the Softube Unit. But you say you use only 2 Pairs, so 4 virtual channels. Normally you will have in a Project let's say 32 tracks. And the goal should be that you can control all of them with the Fader 1. But you will never have 64 Mono Virtual Channels. So I think there is something that I am missing here. I hope you understand what I mean. Maybe there is some other kind of channels that you use? Something like instrument channels or whatever? Because otherwise the seamless integration might work to controll a specific plugin, but with the Fader 1 you will want to controll your mixes and as you know there are mixes that have hundreds of channels.

      @@elotro100 Yeah, I think you are confused with the 2 modes of Console 1. One mode is Console 1, where you don't have anything to do with the Apollo, but are mixing in your DAW. The other mode is Apollo Central, which controls the actual Apollo. You don't need to use any virtual channels here, as this is the mode for the tracking. (though you can use virtual channels if you want). You should try searching the Apollo Central tutorials from Softube, or book a session with their educator Christian, who can take you through all those features. I'm happy to keep answering questions here, but many of these ideas are best seen in person on a Zoom call, or via video tutorials.

      @elotro100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Todd Urban as far as i understand the integration of softube refers only to the apollo central mode which would mean that you can only use it with a very limited number of tracks. But I might be wrong. I asked UAD and Softube about this, but in both cases the answers were not very concrete.

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. You can use Console 1 on as many inputs as yours Apollo allows. When tracking, Console 1 allows as many track counts as your DAW allows. So there aren’t any limitations from the Softube side. Console 1 follows what the other company’s products offer.

    Audio on a specific channel strip can only play through a virtual channel once recorded and you can never control the gain with the slider in console or only hear what is going through that channel strip by soloing.

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you are correct you need to record the audio and play it back through the virtual channel (or assign system audio to stream through it). However, you actually DO have the ability to use the faders to adjust level. Just make sure all your routing is correct and you are monitoring the main output and it should work

      @@dynamicalan Hi! To print an effect, you would want to route the output of the pedal directly into the Apollo's input and record it directly to an audio track. Regarding using a bus in between the source, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. But from the way you describe what you want to do, it sounds like you just need to print directly to an audio track. The other option would be running audio out of your DAW into the hardware effect, but still you would print that back as an audio track.

      I think you are confusing virtual tracks with the 16 analog inputs on the Apollo. If you need, we could setup a session to go through your I/Os and make sure this gets working. But you can probably tackle this on your own if you just watch the video one more time and follow things one step at a time. It’s hard to tell you what’s wrong without actually seeing your setup and going through it together. But I’m sure you’ll get it working! 😎

    does anyone on here use the console with REASON ? Cant find much help with this DAW

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do sometimes. But typically I use Reason in another DAW. It works the same way, you just need to select the Apollo as the interface and then using the routing on the input/outputs at the top of the rack to customize where you want your audio to go.

    CAN You Explain DSP PAIRS Over Virtual Channels ?
    I Have Appolo 8P Plus Silver-4Pre and a 4-710-D ADAT - I Record 16 Channels at Ounce, Most Sessions

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sure. You have a choice of whether you want to be able to use more DSP (or plug-ins) while tracking, or have more virtual channels. For me, I typically use 2 stereo virtual channels - one for the DAW and one for CPU audio. If you aren't using any virtual channels, you can set the Apollo to allow for more plug-in processing while tracking. So basically, UA gives you control over what works best for your needs. The 4-710d doesn't have anything to do with this. You can still connect that via ADAT no matter what you select.

      Thanks for the fast reply, I didn't realize that was an option.
      I use virtual 1-2 linked together, as well as virtual 3-4 and 5-6
      I use them so that I can have 3 different mixes from playback tracks in ProTools.
      How much DSP could I get back if I only use virtual 1-2????
      At this point, I'm able to track with unison plug-ins on all 16 tracks, including the 4-710 but on the 4-7 10 obviously they're not unison .
      Also, all 16 tracks have oxide tape..
      And
      I have Apollo eight pre-version two which only allows three stereo mixes or six outs ..
      tmi hahaa
      Thanks so much for your tips. Any further advice is greatly appreciated.

      @@tootory9506 if you open your UAD meter, you can see how much DSP is being used. But more so, I think the thing here is to decide what balance of DSP vs virtual channels works for you. For me, I only need a stereo out of my DAW to feed the artist the mix for overdubbing. But each person has slightly different setups.

      Just curious what you are using them for. I typically only use 1 to send to reverbs while tracking so the artist can get a little ambience in their cues. Sometimes I'll have a delay on the 2nd one.

    This is too confusing. 1) He changes the interface setup. Difficult to follow of you've git a different UA Interface. Plus, by changing setups on different hardware it misses the point of teaching how to use CONSOLE software. So far he's explaining stuff but no apparent method or organization.
