    Thank you! I am trying to figure this out for my software drumkits/synth. This is exactly how I have routed everything when tracking vocals/line inst.
    For my software instruments I route the Instruments to Virtual Inputs and use the processing from UAD Console to monitor. As prescribed in the Manual.
    However, my first preference would be to use the Verb from the bus send within logic itself with low latency mode on. Is this possible at all?
    Thank you! P.S When I enable Low Latency mode the bus send gets disabled.

    Thanks for this post…but…at 1:23 you already have the outputs routed to the UA console Virtual 1/2…I cannot find where to set that up. So I cannot follow along with the video after that…Logic Pro and UA console don’t seem to be easy to integrate. Maybe Luna would work better, but the ramp-up to learn a completely new DAW….:-(

    • @elikrantzberg
      @elikrantzberg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With just the satellite, you won’t be able to use Unison. So, record your vocals with your BabyFace as you normally would. If that includes the use of any real time plug-ins while monitoring, you can use the UA plug-ins the same as you would use any others. Then add your UA plug-ins after when you are mixing. The satellite is basically a big dongle that enables use of the UA plug-ins, using its internal dsp. There’s no special functionality on it for monitoring while recording.

    Thanks for the video. I'm new to Logic and new to UA interfaces. Here's the issue I'm facing. When I punch in, I can hear both the original take and the punch take. Would you happen to have any suggestions on how to hear the recorded track and then switch to input on punch-in?

  • @robshrock-shirakbari1862
    @robshrock-shirakbari1862 ปีที่แล้ว

    IMPORTANT: For smooth audio punch in and outs on the fly, three things: 1) Make sure you actually record-enable the track (don't just rely on automatic arming, push the red R button); 2) make sure you've hit PLAY first, then RECORD... otherwise you'll get audio delays when you toggle in and out of record; 3) confirm your Preference settings: Software monitoring checked; Input monitoring only for focused track UN-checked; Independent monitoring level checked.
    Logic is finicky... not having these settings correct will lead to tears and embarrassment. ;^)

    Do you have any idea on this?

      AFAIK, there is no way to do this, if you want to monitor them in real-time while recording.

  • @GlitchComputer

    SO do you use a virtual channel in console to receive your stereo out from Logic? Or am I missing something...SO you have your cue mixes from actual headphone sends in logic plus your separate main out to console....?

    • @davehansmann491
      @davehansmann491 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes to your first question, but instead of just sending the entire stereo output mix from Logic to Console, he made a separate stereo bus channel in Logic. He then sends that stereo bus signal to Console. So the stereo bus output is separate from your main mix stereo output. (BTW - The stereo channel you are receiving this stereo signal in Console with doesn't have to be the Virtual 1/2, can be any stereo linked channel. That's just what he chose for this example or how he does it.)
      With the stereo bus channel in Logic, you then get to decide which tracks (in Logic) you put sends on and send to this stereo bus. This allows you to keep your overall mix levels where they are at (which is what you hear coming out your control room monitors) and send partial signal levels to the stereo bus creating a totally separate and different headphone mix which is only to be heard by the talent.
      Hope this helps.

    while the singer is hearing playback of the track they are about to punch into are they also hearing their open mic? or does the open mic input stay muted until the punch in is engaged?

    • @elikrantzberg

      Depends if you have auto input monitoring (under the main record menu) enabled or disabled.

    • @mpistelsf
      @mpistelsf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elikrantzberg Thanks for the reply. my real question is this.. is it possible with the setup you have in the video to do a" tape" style punch in, where the singer hears only playback of the track they are punching into (and not the open mic input in console) and then when punched in, they hear themselves with zero latency?

  • @tellitlikeitis8691

    When do you raise the level of the cue send vs the preamp when the performer wants to hear himself/herself louder in the cue mix? Both would achieve the same thing so why would you raise the preamp instead?

    • @elikrantzberg
      @elikrantzberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You raise the preamp to get more recording level. Raising the cue mix does not affect the recording level. It only affects the level the input signal is monitored at. Not the level it is recorded at.

    • @tellitlikeitis8691
      @tellitlikeitis8691 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elikrantzberg Thank you for the prompt answer. I'm just starting with Console so I'm still learning it. For example, is there a reason you would rather record your reverb in Logic? I have found the insert effect print wet and dry function and the associated routing to be unreliable. If I have the output of a DAW track going to a virtual input for AUX processing in Console (with reverb plugin at 100% wet) and then the corresponding virtual output going back to a DAW track input, when I set to print wet the recording yields a dry signal. Can't understand what I'm doing wrong.

    • @elikrantzberg
      @elikrantzberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tellitlikeitis8691 I don’t understand why you would want to route your DAW track back into Console just to get processed with UA reverb there. Why not just use the UA reverb as a plug-in right in your DAW? You don’t need Console at that point. If you are talking about tracking (recording) with reverb and printing the reverb to a separate track, you set that effects send routing up all in Console. There’s still no need to route from the DAW back into Console for the reverb.

    • @tellitlikeitis8691
      @tellitlikeitis8691 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elikrantzberg In the console manual the case use is outlined for adding UAD processing to a virtual instrument track as a way of saving on resources due to the printing. You send the instrument track for processing in console and then print the effect back in Logic. I just figured out it was my own routing mistake. I agree there are better ways of doing this I'm just getting familiar with the manual. Thanks for the help you got a subscriber!
