Excellent video Point number one - taxi from airport This is regulated and it is a fixed rate to go to Tirana regardless of traffic or route used. A man at the airport supervisor guy escorts you to the first free available taxi and tells you the fare will be 2200 Lek (22 euro). In 2024 and only in Saranda/Ksamil I heard stories of taxi drivers over charging compared to last year but again this has been consistent across different taxi drivers. Point 2 - euro and lek Almost everybody will accept euro notes but might give you change in Lek Point 3 - restaurant prices, thanks to inflation I can tell you that Spain is cheaper than Albania and Spanish meat is superior. Live in Albania for a whole year now and I was shocked when I went to Spain last month. Point 4 - it does get hot but many streets in Tirana have these water spray bridge things on the street footpath and you can walk through them to cool off Point 5 - agree on the safety feeling
Thanks for your brilliant comment! Lots of fantastic information there to help out viewers so I’m glad you commented! Do you plan to stay in Albania for the foreseeable future?
You don't need to take the bus, you can call for Taxi service on the phone. There are several Taxi services in Tirana: Lux Taxi, Clean Taxi, City Taxy, Go Taxi, Blue Taxi...their website and phone numbers are in their website if you google Taxi in Albania. They have Hybrid or fully electronic cars very comfertable very modern for only 9 -11 Eur. The only thing is that they can't pick you up at the area arrivals (only drop you) because those are reserved for Airport own taxi service. You need to wait for them at the exit ticket beam 100 meters away from the airport building. While Airport taxi service is approx. 20 eur still very good compared to other countries, so taking the bus in the Albanian heat...it's not the best choice.
Thank you for all that information - I hope viewers find that very useful! It was definitely a bit of a pain having to walk from the city centre bus stop to my apartment in the (very hot) Albanian summer heat ahhahaah!
@@TravellingWithCon Yes, don't do that :) Busses are a real pain in Albania. All the ones I mentioned you have fixed rates for airport and are big taxi companies that operate with fixed tariffs even when you want to go to Durres or Vlora. Just ask beforehand the price when you call their callcenter number. Don't pick like private individuals taxi (yellow taxis) they will charge you more, even when moving within the city, as they are not companies are just individuals who own a taxi and have registered their vehicle to operate as taxi, they can charge you based on their wish.
1:38 from my experience, Albania is the only country where I WILL get airport cabs - I've always found them reasonably priced, at least in comparison to within Tirana. but Albania has one of the highest petrol costs in Europe and therefore the taxis are generally expensive
@@Slash_to_your_heart Hmm nah not quite that cheap, depends where you're going but generally would be about 10EUR - 15EUR. Petrol prices have skyrocketed in recent years
The best Byrek in Tirana is inside a bazaar on street Fabrika e Qelqit located in Kombinat(really hard to find for those who are not locals). I don’t live in Albania anymore so I don’t know if it’s still open but I’ll go next week and that’s the first place im going to hahahaha
To be honest I only flew into Tirana for a few days, and then I took a bus from Tirana into Budva, Montenegro. So I don’t know about domestic buses sadly - hopefully someone in the comments can help! 🙏 But all I know is that the international bus station is located at the Palace of Sports Asllan Rusi if you need to go to Montenegro or North Macedonia 🇦🇱
Taxis are always dreadful around airports. Thank you for the update on buses. That is handy to know that they do not take cards. What are the basic handy words to use whilst in Tirana? And handy hints on where to eat, I am a veggie. Thank you :) I am looking forward to going over in October.
all the taxis of the airport cost a fixed fee of 15 euros. You can easily book with one of the tens of taxi companies in the city by googling and just by a text message you will have the taxi waiting for you
For people going to albania 300 lek is 3 dollar's and its called 3 mij lek, 300 lek is 30 cent Or if you want to get 1 hundreds its 100 mij lek And a hundred in albania is njeqind mij lek And if you want a 50 its pes mij lek And if you want 50 sent its qes qind lek I hope this helps ❤
From the airport to the city center or wherever in Tirana actually taking a taxi is very cheap and they cannot scam you. I see some comments like 25€ or higher but I have only paid 11€ and I would say that is very cheap.
Some touristy places may accept euros, but I’d say it’s better to take out Albanian Lek at an ATM. Or exchange your euros at a currency exchange. It looked like most shops / cafes would only take Lek, and prices were all in Lek. Enjoy! 🇦🇱
The bus service is until midnight and starts again early in the morning. But there are taxis 🚕 24 hours. I recommend the electric ones, they’re cheaper and better
Why are you being negative by highlighting "Don't do this" as if you're having to warn people not to go there. I've seen 300 videos about Albania and they are all good. Thank you for telling people to drink water when is too hot but you forgot to tell them to wear a jacket when is to cold. Also forgot to tell the to seat down when they are tired
Very true indeed - it’s convenient to have an esim if you’re backpacking through multiple countries, but for one single country a physical sim is muchhh cheaper
I never heard a story where Albanian taxi drivers scam people. I've been given false fake Italian lira by Italian taxi driver but Albanian taxi drivers are good people
7:55 im not saying Albania is not safe, but there are news that someone got k!lled just because he was fighting with someone over a charger.... but on a positive note, i really reccomend watching an Albanian comedy tv channel called portokalli. (Only watch if you know Albanian since most of the funnines is from their jokes/how they talk)🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🍊🍊🍊
@@TravellingWithCon nah bro if u see there. Road there disgusting there rubbish side of the road as well to much corruption I don’t know where are u guys from
Unlike some other countries where you have to blend in with the general population to hide the fact that your a tourist so you don’t get robbed in Albania is the opposite as tourists are treated a bit differently in a good way . However you are kind of expected to tip a bit more in like restaurants , taxis etc . But you won’t be taken advantage in a drastic way like in brasil , Mexico and such. That is up until now as not many Brits and Americans are comfortable enough to put their signature touch of rowdiness in the local venues😂😂. Don’t get me wrong we love them But then that’s how it might have started in Europe too until the locals had enough 😂. By some of them .
Ahahaha - two non-EU countries united 🇦🇱🤝🇬🇧 (but one country is on the rise, and the other country is getting more dangerous and depressing everyday 😭)

Just remember. Anytime you see an "e" in Albanian it's pronounced as the letter "e" in the word "bed"
This is good information! Thank you 🇦🇱
Taxis are always dreadful around airports.
You can easily book with one of the tens of taxi companies in the city by googling and just by a text message you will have the taxi waiting for you
For people going to albania 300 lek is 3 dollar's and its called 3 mij lek, 300 lek is 30 cent
Or if you want to get 1 hundreds its 100 mij lek
And a hundred in albania is njeqind mij lek
And if you want a 50 its pes mij lek
And if you want 50 sent its qes qind lek
I hope this helps ❤
Thanks
Glad you enjoyed! 🇦🇱
If u want to go back to ur country from albania i recommend to use nene tereza ariport
Yes I think it’s a really nice airport actually! Has the other airport in the South of Albania been completed yet?
In 2010 you could travel from one end of the country to the other for 20 US. I know because I did it.
Ahah sounds like you had a great (and affordable) time ahah, what was your favourite stop along the way?
@@TravellingWithCon Thethi and the Betrinti ruins.
There are no addresses in Tirana. For taxis, have them take you to aa spot on your iPhone map.
Great tip - Thanks for the comment! Do you live in Tirana? 🇦🇱
Albania is such a nice country
It is indeed! I hope to return 🇦🇱
From the airport to the city center or wherever in Tirana actually taking a taxi is very cheap and they cannot scam you. I see some comments like 25€ or higher but I have only paid 11€ and I would say that is very cheap.
Ahh that’s a very good deal for a taxi! Was that the price they offered? Or did you negotiate down?
@@TravellingWithCon No it's the price of taxi companies like Blue Taxi or Lux Taxi
Are euros accepted in Tirana? I’m going this weekend 😊🇦🇱
Some touristy places may accept euros, but I’d say it’s better to take out Albanian Lek at an ATM. Or exchange your euros at a currency exchange. It looked like most shops / cafes would only take Lek, and prices were all in Lek. Enjoy! 🇦🇱
@@TravellingWithCon Legend! Thank you for this.
so how was it?
@@shaclo1512 It was amazing! Absolutely loved it 😊
@@samsportstalk9549 nice to hear!
Is there any bus service at night from airport to city?
The bus service is until midnight and starts again early in the morning. But there are taxis 🚕 24 hours. I recommend the electric ones, they’re cheaper and better
Thanks @D.H.Alb.24 for helping out @amarshona1 🙏🇦🇱
I didn’t feel safe in the uk to be honest. I have been mugged by some Pakistani kids often
I definitely agree with you - Albania felt so much safer than many parts of the UK! 🇦🇱
One thing do not mess with people people here get fired up very quickly
Thanks for the tip! 🇦🇱
In winter the weather is around 18 grade ,is sunny
Ahh that’s nice to know! 🇦🇱
28 celsius? In winter? That is very comfortable.
@@jamesbinns8528no Its 5-12° in winter and around 17-20° in autumn
don't go near "the block" or you might go missing
Ohh where is “the block”? 😨
Esims are much more expensive than buying a sim at the airport
Very true indeed - it’s convenient to have an esim if you’re backpacking through multiple countries, but for one single country a physical sim is muchhh cheaper
Where and how to get beaches nearby ??
1 euro roughly 200 lek??
No no no , you’re wrong
It is 1 euro = 100 lek
Oh sorry, didn’t realise I said 200
Lek! Yes 100 indeed! 🇦🇱
We don't harm tourists they can do whatever they want
Albania is very nice! Great food! 🇦🇱
I never heard a story where Albanian taxi drivers scam people. I've been given false fake Italian lira by Italian taxi driver but Albanian taxi drivers are good people
The cheapest taxi is electric and they are perfect no cheating nothing
That’s good to know! Thanks for sharing 🇦🇱
P.S credit card it s good to pay bus or CASH
Thanks for your comment! It’s useful that people can pay by 2 methods if they wish 🇦🇱
Nobody walks shirtless in New York, why should you in ALBANIA
Ahahha it was funny to see 😭
7:55 im not saying Albania is not safe, but there are news that someone got k!lled just because he was fighting with someone over a charger.... but on a positive note, i really reccomend watching an Albanian comedy tv channel called portokalli. (Only watch if you know Albanian since most of the funnines is from their jokes/how they talk)🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🍊🍊🍊
Top 5 things:
1. Visit
@@pluhurimistikal ahahah yes! 🇦🇱
Oh wait, do you mean people should visit? Or people shouldn’t visit? Ahahha
I took a taxi. It was fine
Assuming that taxists always scam tourists in airport of Tirana is quite a huge claim to make and its wrong
Sorry, my bad! 🇦🇱
Hey Mate the average prize for taxi is 15€.
I’m Albania and I live uk for 10 years I don’t want see this country there are no road no sign 🪧 😂😂
Ahhaha no - you should return and check it out! You have a great country 🇦🇱
@@TravellingWithCon nah bro if u see there. Road there disgusting there rubbish side of the road as well to much corruption I don’t know where are u guys from
🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱TIRANA🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱
Ahaha yes! 🇦🇱 Are you from Tirana?
Unfriendly locals, not coming back!
Oh no, sorry to hear you had a bad time! 😭
Don’t get me wrong we love them
But then that’s how it might have started in Europe too until the locals had enough 😂. By some of them .
I totally agree! Albania felt really safe to me! I hope that I will be able to return soon! It was really good 🇦🇱
It’s great not to be in the EU
Ahahaha - two non-EU countries united 🇦🇱🤝🇬🇧 (but one country is on the rise, and the other country is getting more dangerous and depressing everyday 😭)
Hi mate thanks for a video Albanian is not dangerous London is more dangerous that is your opinion maybe a poor country but you welcome to Albania
Thanks for your comment! London is certainly one of the more dangerous places in Europe! Tirana is very safe in comparison! 🇦🇱
Albanian here..have been living in London for 25 years..Albania is in my blood but England is in my heart. .Albania is still developing..taxi fare is 25 euro = 20 £ ..you are very welcoming in Albania
