@dwightyboy5324 Because the modern generation of both fans and wrestlers grew up reading dirt sheets. They have it in their heads that he is actually someone important in the industry and that his opinion means something. This is why AEW is full of marks who care more about getting 5 stars than anything else.
The fact is that Meltzer is a joke. He pretends to have some in depth thought out system for grading matches but it's all for show. Especially now.
The only reason the Young Cucks ever got a 5 star match is because they are his friends and kiss his ass. He's so desperate to actually be part of the business that he'll push they and their friends God awful matches as the best of the best because they are the only ones who really give a crap about his star ratings. No one from the previous generations gave two shots about Meltzer or the other dirt sheet writers.
@@IvelLlehctim you absolutely put it perfectly. If I was a wrestler, I wouldn't care what Meltzer thinks of me or would want his approval. It's also clear the guy is biased, so what he says really shouldn't hold any weight. If you care about star ratings as a wrestler, you're definitely in the wrong business. He's nothing more than a critic, but there's people who will take his word as gospel regardless.

If we think its 5 stars, we don't need validation from WON or Cagematch that it is 5 stars. And Dave is pretty much in agreement as he gave it 4.75. It does boil down to personal choice at that point and he is allowed that much.
He broke his own scale and matches go way over 5 now. He lost his once respectable ratings. How does Taker and Kurt not have more 5 star matches?

Dave can certainly be off at times, but I agree with him on Danielson/Ospreay being the greatest North American match ever. Well, actually it’s my second favorite behind Omega/Ospreay from Forbidden Door 2023.

Couldn’t give this match or any Angle match 5 ⭐️ but given Omega matches 7 ⭐️ let that sink in 😅😅😂😂😂 one thing I do agree with it’s not Bret v Austin mania 13 & WWE has tried to make hbk v taker better because it’s their two favorites but it’s not. Still all time great match though, deserved 5 ⭐️!!!

Wait. So its someone opinions on something he himself never did or been a part off. Why is his opinions so up there again? (Genuine question)
I genuinely don't mind that someone, whether it's Dave or not, didn't think that a certain match deserved five stars. People hate on Dave for having his own star system and a particular taste in professional wrestling. WWE to a large extent rarely offers the kind of wrestling that Dave loves, I realized that at least two years (I only got introduced to him during the COVID days).
If you give a rating for every single match out there, odds are people who follow you will start to find some holes in your logic. For example, here Dave mentions predictability as a reason why Undertake vs Shawn not getting five stars, yet very recently he gave Cody vs AJ five stars although that match was way more predictable. Is he a hypocrite? Not necessarily, it's very difficult to give a rating for everything that goes on in wrestling. Long story short, people who hate his ratings system are better off just not caring about it, yet they comment and interact with everything related to that system.
Side note: I also hated the firefly funhouse match.

I disagree with Dave's reasoning because I've heard this same line of thought used for people when selecting someone to a pro sports hall of fame. They say "if I have to think about it, the answer is no" but sometimes things require a little thought and aren't so obvious. I would say if you spend a long time thinking about it, the answer is probably no, but any thought? That's unfair.
The justification for Adam Page and The bucks to have higher rated matches than wrestlers like HBK & Taker is "Ive seen all those japanese style matches and they're better".

I’m willing to accept 4.75 is close to 5, and that it’s all based on a man’s opinion. My issue with Dave’s star system is how many times he’s given 6 or 7 stars makes that feel like a joke. You’re basically saying one of the best matches for 4.75/7 and you think that’s a good rating? Idk why people care so much about his rating system but I feel like it’s hard to take seriously even as an opinion
You can't dwell in the idea of not wanting to give a match 5 like that's your absolute peak when you're giving multiple matches well over 5 and even up to 7. Flawed system
Undertaker is a great character. But his good matches can be counted on one hand. His good promos? Less than that. Taker only looks good against people his level or higher, and usually only if they are smaller or stronger than him. Otherwise he has more bad matches than good ones.

The reason why it's so annoying to listen to Dave nowadays is because in days gone by he at least had his shit together and had a good criteria to rate the matches but nobody listened to him back then, but for whatever reason now that he is full of shit, lost his mind, got completely biased and, even worse only tells lies that benefits his friends, NOW he gets the publicity and baits..
