funnily enough, more than half the duels in 5Ds are not on motorcycles.
To be completely fair though, even if there was just ONE singular card game on motorcycles, it would still be a meme that plagued (or blessed if you prefer) that particular season. 5D's did more than enough to justify it :3
And to be honest, the motorcycles run on auto-pilot and very smooth roads so the stakes were never really that high.

5D's can be very polarizing. It's probably got most serious and mature story of any series in the franchise... but it's also got card games on motorcycles, a concept which while sorta cool, is undeniably silly.

It would've been a lot better had 4Kids not butchered the English dub even worse than they did the first two series.
@@EmeralBookwise Well, the dub is also considerably weaker than the original series and GX, and everything post Dark Signer arc... yeah, just pretend 5Ds stopped after the Dark Signer arc.
Talk about the yugioh Tag Force games, they are dating sims games that retell the stories from the anime with an original protagonist that has his own lore.

@@SakuraAvalon Sorta. Essentially, you do small dating sims with a character in order to use them as a tag partner. There's even certain characters you are advised not to even try with, because they can and will sabotage you by existing.

Yeah, but after the Dark Signers arc it becomes so bad. I would recommend people to watch 5D's, but only until the end of Dark Signers.

Sevens: It's the worst by default because it's about kids and their own dueling style.

Mars Productions Yeah, going into Sevens with low expectations makes it more enjoyable. I was more motivated to watch Sevens than Pokémon Sun and Moon. Seriously though, the synopsis that they advertised with didn’t do justice for the anime.

I can’t lie, the reason why I started dueling was because of Yu-Gi-Oh World Champion 2011 and I loved turbo dueling.
I played the 2009 version and it was amazing

2011 is nice the speed dueling against kalin was good
2010 for me. I played so much of it and loved building all sorts of decks. Turbo duels were definitely interesting to me.
@@minishsage2128 2010 was my first Yu-Gi-Oh game, and I loved it! There's nothing more satisfying to someone who can't play well than stealing an Earthbound Immortal with Creature Swap!
You know what would have solved the oversimplified tracks issue? Bring in the Earthbound Immortals and their Nazca Lines tracks that go on forever and have tons of twists and turns.
You try driving on a Cusillu [Monkey] track, with the death spiral that switches directions, with this game's handling, and tell me that's a good idea.

@@superboomn The Uru track shouldn't honestly be that bad. The worst ones would probably be Cusillu and Aslla piscu (Hummingbird), more due to constantly switching directions than anything.

Picture this:
A show featuring supernatural elements where our main characters try to uncover the past of their long dead spirit friend and try to send him off to the afterlife.
The sequel includes more supernatural elements where our new protagonist must battle the forces of evil and save both their world and the supernatural world from destruction.
The sequel after _that_ has the protagonist attempt to stop zombies from causing mass genocide in order to awaken an ancient evil, as well as extremist time travellers hellbent on wreaking havoc.
Now picture all of that, but the caveat is that every conceivable problem is solved with a children's trading card game.
And _that's_ why we love Yu-Gi-Oh.
Yu-Gi-Oh being wacky and crazy is literally why I love this series in the first place.

Funny you say that, 'cause Wheelie Breakers was one of several games whose save files were at the core of one (technically two, as there's one for NTSC regions and one for PAL regions) of the Wii homebrew exploits, using its save file to achieve buffer overflow and run unsigned code.

I wonder if anyone’s ever made a 5ds game that plays more similar to how they did speed duels in the show. An accurate and well-designed game in that style would do so well if pulled off
Yugioh 5ds world championship OVER THE NEXUS kind of did that. U play turbo duels with actual speed spells and counters and the game does a really good job of displaying strong strategies that work with turbo duel format specifically such as malefics since SPEED WORLD IS ALWAYS A FIELD CARD. U do race in the game as well but it is it's own thing and the only time you do both is outside of the main campaign but only to decide who goes first in one lap just like the show. Plus it had their own OCs with one of them being total waifu material. I consider it to be the best game outside the tag duel series. I was actually hoping jwitts would give it a nod but instead only mentioned the prequel.

RayShadow278 Yes, my only complaint is that I wish we were only motorcycles and that it’s sadly the last of the World Champion series of games and series of custom Yu-Gi-Oh! games that have their own story and open world.
On the topic of Yusei's nickname, "The Indomitable Junk Rider", he built his duel runner out of scrap parts. So that, along with his deck, causes the nickname to make sense.
Ironically 5Ds has one of the better storylines of the series.

I'm still waiting for a YGO game that includes all the gimmicky duel types at the same time, like tag duels, turbo duels, speed duels and battle royale. Just imagine all of those duels on the same game
Too much of a budget for Konami to spend.

I'd want a GX game in the style of Persona or SMT, where you fight evil monster spirits, and even convince them to join your side. I'd also like an open world Rpg set it 5ds where you get to explore all the different locations in the show, play tournaments, and get to drive around freely in your duel runner.
Pretty much only Duel Links does this, but that's a Pay2Win mobile game. But it does have Tag Duels, Turbo Duels and Action Duels. But all of that as Speed Duels.
So am I the only one who is confused why he keeps driving backwards for most of the video?

As a speedrunner of this game, I have to say, this covers pretty much everything, aside from the fact that grinding for the currency for the cards is a tad slow. I'm surprised you didn't rag on Platinum Cup more, considering that's a complete mess in its own right, cause the spam reaches Overdrive and Lazar can go *BLEEEEEEEEEEP* with his Delinquent Duo...

I'll leave this comment with an explanation of Platinum Cup in Mario Kart terms for the uninitiated: "Platinum Cup is like playing a 100cc cup in Mario Kart with opponents being on a hidden difficulty above Hard and one of them being at 200cc with Frantic items and the opponents have nothing but Boos, Red Shells and Bloopers."

Everyone makes fun of 5Ds for the "card games on motorcycles" but ironically it is the best iteration of the Yu-Gi-Oh series by far.

As a matter of fact, there is another - Excitebots: Trick Racing, which also released in 2009 on the Wii, had a game mode where you *play Poker* while racing.

"The only game I know of to combine card games and racing." So it's not a TCG, but Excitebots had a mode where you played Poker while racing.
Also, have you checked out "The Duelists of the Roses" yet?
As a kid, I loved the different ideas they had for Yugioh's initial card game, being presented in different gameplay styles and the spinoff games to the card game like Dungeon Dice Monsters in the anime, and that was years before I knew this franchise didn't originally intend to be focused on the one type of game. Whether or not they were good, I regret missing out of these video games that took situations from Yugioh and made them into entirely new beasts, and since this is Konami, I don't think we'll ever get these kinds of games again.
I remember watching footage of this on TH-cam back in the day. One thing that stood out to me was the Japanese announcer was one of the most hilariously over-the-top things ever. "THREE! TSU! WAN! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

5D’s in the sub was really good and very dark. So dont knock it till you watch it in the sub.

Ok but a racing game with customizable decks instead of items could be sick if it was more polished. You draw a hand from a deck of cards, and they all have unique effects. I’m not just talking about basic items either. There would be potential for strategies you’d actually find in a game with customizable decks, like cycle decks, or other unique synergies.

Saw this game for sale rather cheap a few years ago. I assumed it wasn't as good as the other yugioh games cuz it was cheap, and a YUGIOH RACING GAME on THE WII.
But it looks interesting here.
Always glad to see a whacky game like this and you coming to the conclusion "It's actually not as bad as it sounds" It means the Devs had a wierd idea, got it approved, pullted it off well enough and the result is at least good fun for a while. A game for the fun of it - I can appreciate that.

I actually am glad Yugioh gives you faceless characters to play as. It makes me feel apart of the Yugioh universe. I would much rather be myself and use my own deck, then play as a character from the anime and be chained to their deck.
It'd really be cool if they gave the player character in a Yugioh game some depth, and had them interact with the characters more than just the occasional dialogue choices. For example, in a game set in 5Ds, I'd love to be able to choose whether my character was from the Satellite, born in New Domino City, or moved in from Crash Town. The 5ds DS games did show the player character from two of those perspectives but It'd be so interesting to see how the player characters upbringing effects how they interact with the main characters of the series, and taking place over the course of a the entire show rather than just one arc. It'd never happen now, but one can dream.

"Weird concept which, if they had done better, would have been a great and innovative game" is something that I tend to see a lot in licensed games. Wonder why. Maybe because since they expect to sell because of the brand, they don't invest in quality but also aren't that scared of trying less safe designs
