The DA is just so damn clean, flat, and consistent. No odd spills, petri dish, halos, or artifacts. I appreciate it more every day. And yes - They're more squared off, or scround, for lack of a better word, in person than they appear on camera. They're hefty. No denying that downside. But the upside of their heavy build is that they don't think SCARs are so tough.
@@OnesandXeroes One request for this video if possible (or if you can respond here if you already know). How usable are those lenses with eye protection such as glasses or goggles. Do they push the lenses out to far infront of your face and lose the added FOV?
thanks again for sharing & comparing. I noticed some units have a splash on the ground and some do not. the MAWL's throw all their energy down range while the RAID FP and others drop some on the ground on the way down range. if the NV PHD could speak to that effect a little, I'm sure both myself & others would like to know your thoughts on this effect. the Modlite IR 850 had a huge amount of spill, just like mine does, it usually auto gates my NOD's with its spill and bloom. I know it's a big ask, but could you show what lasers & illuminators look like from the side view? if someone was downrange but off to the side to avoid direct exposure but still able to see what these devices give off when from off center view? what would someone not in line of sight see when you use them? how much extra IR energy is thrown out all around the shooter by the devices? does it light up the trees all around you or is the energy focused down range so when you are off axis you see a limited amount. I have never seen a test of how much devices bloom and expose the shooter. basically, how fast will you be kilt in da street if/when you use your laser. lastly, I agree the Villian diffuser caps should be on your PEQ's and D2's without fail or delay, they are great at going from indoor flood to outdoor throw instantly. very good upgrade and probably should be included with any non VCEL laser without an easy way to adjust the divergence.
ok this is a lot lol. the spill is very minimal and from a down range perspective they all look fairly similar because the intensity of the emitter will far surpass any marginal spill. if you're concerned with near pear threats and concealment while using night vision the common position is, dont actively emit in the open at a minimum. Passive aiming would be sop.
Another note here is that he was only running the MAWL on triple click which is the smallest most distance oriented beam. The short and midrange will throw more flood out there
In the world of Vscel illuminators, I don't know why peqs are still as popular as they are. I know when you tighten down the illuminator they are insanely bright, but a clean illumination does so much more for PID. Is it soley because the ability to punch through photonic barriers?
Thank you for the comparisons brother. You don't know how much money you probably save a lot of people. I have to go with the MAWL DA though. The Raid XE full power is not as powerful as the DA. Yes, it's heavy but we are men and let's try to look at what the advantages of use are instead of something we can overcome.
It’s crazy to me how there is all these new and better LAMs out there even the LA5 and yet the marine corps and the army still issues out peq15’s and 16’s.
The features of the raid xe are not hard to understand imo, just has a few more than other lasers. Summary: up arrow, more power. Down arrow, less power. Short range illum=flood led, long range=laser. Pick the combo of features you like and program them to the button you want. Never change a setting again.
@customnightvision the dir-one is $600 and has no illuminator. Or the one-v with illuminator is $1500. Is having an illuminator worth the extra 1k? Thanks.
Thank you for showing the Modlite IR head. I use one with a DBAL A3. I noticed that the Modlite IR heads are no longer on there website. Do you know if they discontinued them??? Thank You. Great video! :)
I just got my NVGs, and am ready for a laser. I'm liking the DIR-V, but might it be worth it to wait for the Holosun Iris at 40% the price of the DIR-V? Thoughts?

yeah, they're pretty neat. triple click to get full power is dumb though.
@customnightvision agreed - but it's nice that it opens up another set of controls / features aside from just FP.
@@davidmckechnie2640it’s also disgustingly heavy.
Yup - It's hefty. But it'll probably outlive my SCAR heavies.

Perst 4 and a Goonbeam IR850. Heard mixed opinions about goonbeam, but the 850IR is the most intense IR light I've used/seen

peq15s are solid though.
How about laser only??? Which one would you choose personally etc
The lasers are all very similar, the full powers vary a bit due to output but the restricted lasers all look the same
