Nice video! As we mentioned on the Cold Harbour video the Boomslangs are designed specifically for the PVS-14. That particular standard housing size (the internal dimensions of the housing) limits what anyone can do in designing wide FOV optics. We can design 50 degrees with 25mm eye relief, it requires a totally different internal housing design from a standard PVS-14. Therefore, the Boomslangs were designed to provide 50 degrees FOV capability that is backward compatible to almost all PVS-14 type night vision goggles currently in use. The end goal was to minimize fisheye distortion prevalent on other wide FOV optics, while preserving as much clarity as possible edge to edge while drastically increasing situational awareness.
@@kevin11288oh cool, hypothetically speaking if I dropped my rnvg's in a Porta potty how water resistant are they and what is the likelihood of pink eye?
Thanks Kevin and Ben! I’m expecting my PVS 14 back from you tomorrow with the Boomslang lenses. Amazed at the turnaround time. You guys rock. K. Keefer
If you wanted to run goggles (like the ESS ones, for example), would you recommend these due to the eye relief difference? From the looks of it, the Boomslang seems more appropriate for use with glasses so you can set them as close as possible to the eye.
Would you say the Carson/RPO is still a general all around good choice, where as the boomslang seems more specialized for if your really needing that FOV increase?
Did you test if that is the resolution limit of the optics, or if it scales up with a higher res tube? While I had to use a 25mm tube to get a 92° fov, I noticed, that I still got a rather strong magnification on the tube details when looking around in the image. Also the smallest 25mm tubes I'm aware of, are in 43mm format. Having 36mm tubes with 25mm screen and photocathode would be really nice in my opinion. But it seems the trend goes towards 16mm screens.
Can you do a halo / mixed light comparison with the boomslang vs carson? (Just like you did in the video Carson vs RPO) In that video the extra halo effects made the Carson the first choice for me.
Very interested in these. So if I understand you correctly, if I have a spot in zone 2, that spot will be perceived as being larger while viewing thru the lenses?
10* more left to right. But also up and down and more fill in the center. I find with my rpnvgs I don’t usually run them fully out because I loose too much in the center. This is hopefully going to help with that.
Was wondering this too. Guessing probably just a bonus 5° on both sides, along with the extra on top, bottom, and overlap in the center. But I'm regarded so idk.
@@JAD77755 i talked to a buddy who has both. he said lenses on a set of RNVG A's is better than the panning, and there are too many draw backs with both together
I saw the price at cold harbor for the boomslang. What do they do that makes it cost around 150 dollars more than the boomslang on your site? Or what do you guys do to make yours cost 150 dollars less?
No such thing as a dumb question, yeah i mean you would have more fov but the reduced eye box may make it more difficult to utilize it while viewing the tubes off center eyeline.
@@customnightvision they seem to work pretty well, they have like no distortion and the eye relief is over 20mm so they can be used even with gas masks (youll lose some fov but its still more than 40), the only disadvantage they have is ofc the reduced Resolution and apparently they also seem to have a slightly darker image, but i myself didnt notice that when using them. For the price there great, and i would even buy them when they would cost more
@@aesthetic8780 i mean, its obvious that they have worse res at this fov.. but i think they still do great and i would use them over boomslang lens, just because eye relief and fov increase
Its a combination of things. the optics manipulate the light on both sides to create an image that we consider acceptable (similar to what we would see unaided). Te further we move away from that the less usable the image gets for use in the helmet mounted format.

Yes they are compatible.
What kind of FOV performance are you going to see with a set of 65 degree set RPNVGs?

yeah they probably would.
Photonis going to release their high gain tubes in white phosphor soon? Seems like that might be a real game changer.
