If pregnancy and kids make you exhausted, don’t have anymore.
I hope pregnant Karen gets ticketed soon. I’d love to see the look on the judge’s face when she tries to fight it in court.

Agreed. Pregnancy and having children is a life choice. Being disabled isn't. I knew a woman just like this Karen and she could not have cared one way or the other how much her absolutely disrespectful, boundary trampling behavior affected others. As long as she got her way, she couldn't have cared less. She crossed every ethical, moral and legal line in front of her because she had to have her way. Even getting slapped with a lawsuit wasn't a wake-up call. It just gave her yet another excuse to play her favorite role: the victim. Lacking zero awareness that she was the root cause of all of the conflict and problems in her life, I I gave her a much-needed verbal slapping. I told her, in no uncertain terms, that she was running out of excuses for why she was such a vile b-word. I told her her kids were growing up, her husband was growing increasingly sick and tired of her crap and she had no job or prospects to fall back on when she inevitably lost every single person who ever cared about her. She was quiet. I told her, bluntly, that it was very foolish of her to think she could waltz through life being an absolutely insufferable stuck up c-word and not expect all of her toxic energy to come back to her in spades. Suddenly her queen bee persona melted away and she was frightened, weary and on the straight and narrow for a while. Naturally, her being an egomaniacal Karen, she got over it quickly and interpreted herself as the victim because I dared tell her how it really is. She tried to meddle in my life and, being prior enlisted military, I kept documentation. Hell-bent with getting her way and the momentary rush of gratification that came with "winning” whatever conflict she dreamed up out of thin air. She got a very cold hard reality check when I told her I was planning to sue her if she didn't back off. She tried denials, deflection and crocodile tears to avoid receiving the justly earned consequences of her actions. I was deeply unmoved by her water works. After I told her, plainly that she had burned yet another bridge with a person who no longer cared about her, I instructed her to stay away or she would get sued. Terrified, because she had never seen me that way, she accused me of changing for the worst and I told her she was the reason why I had changed. Having failed at playing the blame game, she made one last-ditch failed attempt at trying to invoke my mercy. I told her this: “Sorry. Fresh out.” I haven't heard or seen her in over 10 years, but every now and then her name does come up. Apparently the mere mention of my name makes her immediately tense up and she goes on to a tirade spitting venom about what a butthole I am. I'm glad to know that I live rent-free in her head as the one person who stood up to her because I know my rights and wouldn't take her crap.

Agreed. Karen is the epitome of a choosing beggar a exploiting the connection she has the OP through her family. Not only are they full of themselves and deeply self-entitled, they don't know how to say two words: “thank you.”
I knew someone just like that Karen. Extremely opportunistic, she only ever befriended someone who had a resource that she coveted then wish to exploit. If she could not obtain said resource, she would interpret it as that person being purposefully mean to her. Adding to her grand delusions that she was the most important person on the planet, she would then set out to retaliate against these unsuspecting individuals for whatever offense she felt they had committed. It could have been something as simple as them telling her no, establishing boundaries or holding her accountable for her grossly disrespectful behavior. Even eventually getting sued for libeling someone online, that wasn't enough of a wake up call for her to realize that she was a total liability. Even her own children moving out at the earliest convenience, cutting contact with her and barring her from seeing her grandchildren wasn't a wake-up call. Some people are beyond help.

Been there, done that with disabled parking spaces and entitled people.
My wife has a serious back injury from work, which limits her mobility. She walks with a cane on her good days, - pain score 6/10- and uses a wheeled walker on her bad days -8+, and she has a blue badge for the car.
At a shopping centre, we were driving around looking for the nearest entry door for the shops we needed to go to, and hopefully a disabled space by the doors. We see one, but another car pulled in before we got there. Ah well, luck of the draw etc: We found a space a couple of rows back from the doors, so not too much further or walk.
As we reach the disabled spaces, we see the car that beat us to the spot, and a woman is finishing strapping a second child into one of those tandem buggies, and walking away from the car. My wife sees there is no disabled permit on display and calls to the woman that she’s has forgotten to put the permit in the window, and she will get a ticket if the parking wardens see the car. - our local council has a $2500 fine for using a disabled spot without a permit, and yes that is $2500, it’s not a typo- (we assume one of the kids is disabled, and that’s why she parked there)
We were told to “f*uk off and not be nosey cnuts, and that she could use it because she had kids, and the mother and baby spaces were too far away from the doors”.
Despite the pain and inconvenience, my wife walked the entire length of the shopping centre to the Centre Management offices, and reported the woman for parking in a disabled space without displaying a permit.
When we left, the car was still there, with a two and a half grand infringement notice wrapped around the windscreen wiper. I hope she got some good bargains in K Mart to offset the ticket!
On another occasion I was on my own and pulled into a space facing a disabled spot. As I got out, a woman pulled into the disabled space in front of me. She jumped out and headed for the laundromat. I called out to her and said she’s forgotten her permit, to which she replied she wasn’t disabled but she’d only be a couple of minutes.
I took a photo of her car, and a photo of her carrying a huge basket of laundry back to her car. She went mental, cursing and swearing at me, demanding I delete the photo or she would call the police. I pointed to the sign in the car park saying illegal parking in a disabled spot carries a $2500 fine and she jumped in her car and pissed off sharpish.
I sent the photos to the council and received a reply that a ticked had been issued. That must have been the most expensive laundry she’d ever done.
At Costco one day, we were walking to the entrance past a line of vehicles in disabled spaces, and one car had three teenagers in it, windows down, doof doof music blaring, and the engine running, but no blue badge or permit in the window. My wife advised the driver to display his badge, as he’d be liable for a huge fine if the traffic wardens saw him.
He said his mate was just running in for a couple of things and they would only be 10 minutes. My wife pointed out she’d just had to walk an extra 300 meters because he was taking up a space he should not have been in, and she would be reporting him to the police. Cue much revs and many reverse as he decided he desperately needed to park else where in a couple of acres of empty car park.
My wife was, (and I’m still) nurses. Despite living with chronic pain, and reduced mobility, she will still use a normal parking spot if it’s close to the doors to leave a disabled space free for others that need to use them. What she won’t tolerate is self entitled arseholes using disabled spaces because they feel their needs/time/ job are more important than those who are genuinely disabled. She’s more than happy to apply the $2500 twat tax to deserving recipients.

It needs to become a criminal offence to park in a disabled parking space.
If you're in the UK, do you remember a few years ago that selfish jerk who parked in a Blue Badge space and refused to get out of the car because he couldn't afford the fees for it being towed? It happened the week before Christmas. The police should've been able to drag him out of the car and arrest him.

It reminds me of the time my mom convinced a life insurance agent to sell them a bigger policy for her and take a bigger one out for his own wife by bringing a list of how much it would cost my dad to maintain his current living standards without him. By the time she got to how much a housekeeper would cost, after laundry and take-out (since dad couldn't cook) he got the idea his wife provided a lot of expensive work for free...and maybe she was worth more than a minimum life policy.
I have threatened my husband ONCE with a bill when he tried to back up his parents in calling me lazy (before I found out I was so sick) and he's never brought it up again. It would've cost him 4x his daily wage, and I was cutting him some slack by cutting amateur wages for the different aspects in half. It's insane how much house work costs.

I've had a similar experience in a store, Been diagnosed with Lupus since age 11 and it first effected my legs. First cane, then walker, but ended in a wheelchair until I got a little better. Still can't walk good but during the time I used a walker at about 14 yrs old? (Has a seat kinda built into it for breaks) I used that seat to help me carry the small basket of stuff.
This blonde woman gave me a dirty look and told me "Those aren't play things. Kids like you shouldn't play with them."
I dunno what she was thinking, if I just got it from the store or what but I was shy so didn't really tell her how it was. Simply said "this is my walker"
I was so embarrassed to use them after that, she really messed with my head just because I don't "look" sick doesn't mean I'm not disabled. It wouldn't be until my 20s when I learned not to give a F anymore what rude or entitled people think.

The pressure washer one...I know people exactly like that. Had a friend who was asked to mow his parent's neighbor's overgrown yard (as a favor). The lady that owned the house was like that: calling him at 6 in the morning asking why he wasn't there, etc. He started, put an hour into it before his mower literally stopped due to the insane thickness of the grass and weeds. As he's sorting out the problem they lady stormed out of her house because she stopped hearing the mower and began yelling about "lazy children thinking that they need a break every 10 seconds."
    He was 28.
Shrugged, packed up his stuff and left. I found out about it because he called me wanting to hang out and get lunch, and told me. Apparently later she tried to bill his parents for 'emotional damage' due to 'falsely promising to help her.' Not sure what happened after that.
Part of me hopes that her lawn has become more overgrown, but that one patch of it is slightly shorter than the rest.

Story 3: I just don’t get why some people allow others like that “Karen” to push them around like that. That girl was basically doing that for free, and those people were just awful. She had no obligation towards them and you shouldn’t help people like that as they are so disrespectful. She did NOT hire her. After those calls from
the first day of washing the driveway, I would have never gone there ever again and would have certainly blown them off. I can’t believe people like that. That made me so angry to hear. She was such a push-over. Just block them everywhere and call the police if they still bother you.

The handicapped parking story is so unfortunately all too common. As someone who used to work in retail, I’ve see this happen more times than I’m willing to admit.
My favorite instance of this happening was that a lady got in the face of an old guy and his wife who took the last handicap space from her. She was yelling how the spot was disabled people only... The old guys responded by taking off his jacket to show that his left arm was missing from the elbow down. He leans in real close to the lady and I hear him ask “I don’t know, do I look disabled enough to you?”

It amazes me how many people out there just lack empathy. I have an "invisible disability" (autism), and could very well have gotten a disabled placard for my car if I'd wanted to (when I was still able to drive, that is; sadly, I started getting too overwhelmed by all the stimuli during driving) because sometimes I get really bad panic attacks and wind up running out of the store. When that happens, my legs feel like jelly and I just want to go home; so the farther away I am, the harder it gets. But I at least can move without arthritis pain and have use of my legs, so I wouldn't feel right taking the spot away from someone who needs an aid to walk or is in a wheelchair.
Like...those people really need it because of pain and-or accessibility issues while for me, it's just a little longer of being uncomfortable; just like I didn't choose to be mentally disabled, they didn't choose to be physically disabled. I can't even understand the mentality of the non-handicapped folks who think it's okay to try and steal those spots.
The entitled pregnant lady in that story made me so mad just listening to it because it was like she was saying "Since stupidity is my disability, I'm entitled to that spot!". >.>
Also, if that was me in that last story, I wouldn't have even gone back the second they started harassing me. I'd tell them that if they're so dissatisfied with the FREE WORK, to hire a professional to come out and power wash the rest of their driveway. OP put up with way more abuse than she should have, though it was good to see her grandparents stand up for her and take her side.

For the second parking story, saw someone park next to a van with a wheel chair lift that did have the plates and block the lift so the driver couldn't get into the car. The guy tried to contact the owners in the store, and when no one showed up the store called a tow truck and the local police. The people who parked in the clearly marked NO PARKING area reserved for such vehicles, tried to pull the we don't speak English line and started speaking in I want to say Hmong, and going off the disabled guy and cops. Plot twist kicks in here: The disabled man actually taught Hmong, as did one of the responding cops who promptly gave them a ticket for the FULL price of the infraction and hauled off their car, meanwhile their just doing their damndest to impersonate a goldfish.

Okay that pregnant lady is just crazy. When I was pregnant I preferred parking farther from the store for 1.) Exercise and 2.) Having enough space to get my door open for my pregnant belly. Pro tip, park with cart returns on the driver's side. Nobody else likes to and it guarantees you enough space to get out of the car without someone parking over the line in your spot. Also if you put the car seat on that side, now you can get yourself and the newborn out without having to do any fancy footwork.

“Handicapped” parking (definitely an out-dated term, but yeah) is definitely a sore spot for me. My little group of apartment buildings has a single handicap spot, and I know from multiple sources (including the owners) that it was put in specially for one person who had lived there for 20 years (I’ve been here almost 6 years). She was the sweetest lady ever, and she was a truly wonderful neighbor. She had many health conditions to battle, and she sadly passed on just around 2 years ago.
It’s a very small cluster of apartments, and the small parking lot is directly next to the buildings, so it’s definitely not something for the average person to complain about. I have some physical difficulty myself (hips, knees, and ankles, oh my!), but it’s literally so close that I’d never think of trying to take that spot, even now that she’s passed. For one, I’m not interested in pain management from a doctor, paying for any medical bills for that, taking any super addictive meds, going through the red tape for a pass, or any hassle. As far as I’m concerned, I can still hobble my butt where I need to go, so there’s no need for any of that hassle. I do sympathize with people dealing with pain issues/physical or mobility issues, major or minor.
However, the following month after the sweet lady passed, another neighbor decided that the handicap placard in her mom’s car (which she continually gripped about her mom needing to use the car now and again) entitled her to park wherever she wanted.
Unfortunately this isn’t a story with a satisfying ending. There was no revenge or malicious compliance. It just continually annoyed me and made me sad for about a year and a half until that entitled neighbor moved. There is a number of elderly people here as well, but the tiny parking lot is so close that the designated spot is more symbolic than anything.
Now, two years on, people around here just randomly park there (since they know that the sweet lady isn’t here anymore). People, including the college students next door that go for a run every morning, just park there for no reason. At least they’re not abusing someone else’s handicap parking placard, but it still feels disrespectful to me. The sign for the spot is the standard “handicap parking only, unauthorized vehicles will be towed, fines, blah blah blah” but it’s no longer enforced as none of the residents have the placard or require accommodations.
There are other hills to die on here, though, as well as many other stories. It’s mostly just the typical apartment shenanigans with only dashes of crazy thrown in. Luckily, the owners are truly wonderful people, and they quickly resolve any problems that arise.

Wow Karen seems like a wonderful mother, busy accosting handicapped people in stores instead of being an advocate for change and asking the stores to create special pregnancy spots (some stores have these in Canada).

If you have a legitimate problem during pregnancy, you can get a temporary disabled placard with a note from your doctor to the DMV. Otherwise, walking is excellent for pregnant women.

Karen said they do have Mother and Child spots but, "they are too far away". As all the ones I have seen start right after the Handicap ones, she is just lazy

Pregnant women can use the disabled spots... IF they get a temporary placard. They require doctor approval and aren't easy to get, but severe emclapsia and recommended bedrest can often get one prescribed. I have a friend who got one when she was pregnant, around 3 months in. She was pregnant with twins and excessive exercise in the Central Texas heat spiked her blood pressure hard. Her placard expired two months after her due date. So no, Karen was wrong. OP was right. You DO have to have a placard.

That second story about the pregnant lady makes me so mad. Omg. I have TWIN 15 mn olds and I'm about 18 weeks pregnant with #3. Trust me I haven't known a good night's sleep in quite some time nor had 5 min to myself. When I think I have finally baby proofed my house these two magically figure out how to get into something my husband and I don't want them anywhere near lol. I would die for my children, but they are a handful.
That all being said, never in my wildest dreams would I ever think to walk up to what is clearly a handicapped person (nor to a not so obvious handicapped person, you never know and I'm not a medical expert) and say I have it worse than them. Disgusting. If 4 kids is too much she should have gotten back on contraception.

I'm handicapped, your not! You're pregnant, so what! You can't use handicapped parking because you are pregnant!

The first time Karen berates me for doing a free job for her is the last time I do a job for her. Doesn't matter if it's lawn mowing or pressure washing something I'm done!

Omg the 2nd one. I have an autoimmune fibromyalgia disease. Before I even found out I had it, I couldn't stand up straight and walked like "7" for 9 months. I was (and still am) in so much pain all over my body. I can walk normally now, but with fibro, you get intense pain that travels from joint to joint in your body (like today for instance, my ankle began hurting, then it traveled to my lower back and back to my ankle). I once had spare time before my DMV appointment and went to Safeway to get coffee (from the Starbucks), and there was a spot close to the door that wasn't handicap so I parked there. This van who wasn't anywhere near it sped up and slammed on their brakes right behind me while slamming on the horn. I ignored them and got my coffee, my hips and ankles hurting while I'm waiting. 20 minutes later, I get my coffee and walk out to see he parked beside me. He waited for me just to yell at me saying "How DARE you take a spot from a disabled veteran!?" I said "You weren't anywhere close to the spot." He tried arguing with me bringing up a disabled veteran again until I cut him off saying "Sir. With all due respect, I'm disabled and am in so much pain. I don't know why you chose to waste both your and my time by acting in this manner but I hope you learn from this." I got in my car and drove away.
Just because you're pregnant or a veteran doesn't grant you automatic respect because you chose to become pregnant and serve. I didn't choose to be disabled.

If the employee was truly embarrassed by his wife’s behavior, either he would have already made her stop contacting the bos or he would have divorced her! Anyone that tolerates that bs is just as guilty as the one doing it.

So many pregnant women or EMs with children claim to be handicapped. Since a handicap permit can only be issued with a doctor's authorization I like to see how many of these "handicapped" women convince their doctors they need the permit and actually get it

Honestly, the second one IS valid. There are health risks involved with pregnancy. Someone took the pregnant spot while I was pregnant with my third, and the physical strain of walking from a much further spot caused me to go into labor. This is why stores have a spot for expecting mother's. She IS physically handicapped, but as pregnancy is a temporary condition you don't get a placard.
Similarly, had a guy complain about me using an electric card when his wife (senior with a cane) needed it more. I had just been released following surgery to remove a tumor from behind my right eye, draining tube covered by light guaze, hospital bracelet still on. Here is an idea, instead of comparing who needs it more complain to the store about not having enough spots or carts for everyone who needs them.

RE: pressure washing. Management should NEVER get to set all the terms and conditions for volunteer labor. And volunteer labor must make sure management knows it!
