Steambot Chronicles is one of, if not my favorite PS2 game. The amount of depth and variety it has is astounding and hardly anyone talks about it! Thanks for putting it on this list!

Agreed! Played the game as a kid and absolutely loved it. As far as tactics strategy mech goes, its WAY better than Front Mission 3 or 4. I actually recently purchased a copy of it off Ebay. Popped that bad boy in the other night and I'm not sure if it was because I was slightly drunk, but damn, that game is fuckin' hard. I got game over on the second mission, expecting it to be a mission you're suppose to fail. Not sure how I made it so far as a kid.

There should be a movement to bring original game consoles back. Video games weren’t just made just for high graphics, the versatility of this consoles should go to show that we need to preserve every and all PlayStation2 products! I hope people from 400 years from now will see the significant greatness this console has brought to the world.
The PS2 was/is such an amazing console. There are so so many damn good games for it.... it would be damn near impossible for me to pick a top 10. And there are so many hidden gems!
It has an incredibly diverse library and a very long lengthy life. There's so many PS2 gems out there I'd honestly recommend people just dive in and straight off play dozens upon dozens of titles.

When I was getting back into ps2 last year I was finding about how amazing the hack and slash library on ps2 is a lot of people talk about ps2 as the RPG console but ps2 is more than just rpgs and hack and slashes are honestly best on ps2

Oh boy, ps2 has to be the console with the most variety on their game library. Shadows of Rome, Gladiator (yes, a gladiator simulator), Rygar ( God of War before god of war existed), Katamary Damacy, War of the Monsters, Earth defense Forces, Mr. Moskeeto, Kuon, etc, etc
A few more tidbits about Chaos Legion: 1. The new character that summons creatures in DMC 5 is based off of this game. 2. After beating the game, you unlock the female as a playable character, with not only her own unique move set (using guns and no summons), but also has different levels and layouts that tells the story from her perspective. 3. Delacroix became one of my favorite character names that I still use to this day for female characters (though it's the name of the male antagonist in the game)
Much respect for putting Chaos Legion in number 1, that game deserves a remake or at least a remaster from Capcom 👏 One of the best examples of Neo-Gothic gaming with its world and character designs, the gameplay can be tricky especially in the harder modes, but the hauntingly heavy soundtrack is what tops it off for me with what sounds like Devil May Cry mixed with Jungle/Breakcore vibes 🙏🖤
damn, this brings me back , extermination was the first game i bought together with my Fat PS2 , since i was a fan of the PS1 era Survival horror games, i enjoyed the hell out of that game , same cheesy dialogue , decent story , and i loved the M4 weapon costumisation , adding parts to the weapon instead of using multiple other weapons. still don't understand why this game wasn't as big as some other survival horror games
Knew that I wasn't crazy when purchased Chaos Legion years ago, still have the game at my collection even when have been selling some of my old games just to purchase the new consoles 😭
Funny story i have with my experiance for chaos legion: my mom once when i was out at school purchased three games from gamestop for me to surprise me when i got home. She doesn't know a single thing about video games but just looked at the covers and thought "hey my daughter will like these" (she also doesn't speak english, we are from portugal). I had a really shitty day at school that day and seeing the games just surprised me since she thought it was annoying when i liked buying them. one of the three games was chaos legion and it was the one game i would continually play for months. fantastic characters, amazing visuals, awesome music, seriously cool gameplay and an unforgettable storyline. I would love to see a remaster or a series of this game. truly underrated and deserves more.
If you've seen them all.... all the hidden gem lists, this is very solid one with at least 2 surprising games. It was a good watch! Good recommendations
@@FrankTheGuy For a game that predates DMC/Bayonetta, it's a pretty interesting pioneer for hack & slashes. The game is designed with exp/item grind in mind for legions and your combo move sets. Idk, the english voice acting is hilarious, some of the music was actually slammin, it came out in 03 I cut it a bit of slack.
I really enjoyed Chaos Legion but I got stuck on the final boss for months and just couldn't beat it. It killed the momentum of the game for me so badly after many failed attempts that I eventually just looked up the ending on youtube. I'd love to go back and give it another try again someday.
Extermination looks like a cross of MGS and RE I also love all of Nippon Ichi's games, thanks for featuring them Bujingai looks sick! Thanks. Blood with tell is actually based off a really old manga called Dororo, which had a recent remake which is really good. I recommend giving it a watch

I don't know which demo disc I found this on, but after that demo I knew I had to buy it. Part mech combat, part adventure, part rhythm music game, this filled a niche I didn't know I needed filled.

I proudly have half of this list, and couldn't agree more with your review. Steambot Chronicles and Skygunner are both connected to Atlus, so you can't go wrong. I think that Cold Winter might be the first FPS that I played, in which you can blow off peoples body parts, post mortem. Blood will tell has such cool mechanics and visuals but is definitely a challenging title. Love the speed and style of Bujingai as well. I am definitely curious about a few of the titles I don't have, that you've listed. Great review!

Wow, cold winter is surprisingly graphic; you can blow/shoot off limbs. The NTSC name for freakout is definitely the better name. (Stretch panic 🤣) Blood will tell sounds a lot like the anime Dororo. I've never heard of Steambot chronicles. Actually, many of these games I have not heard of before, and I frequently look for obscure games, especially on the PS1.
Prefect List! Any PS2 hidden gems list with Skygunner knows what it is talking about. Some more recommendations: 1. Power Drome - a dirt cheap futuristic racing game that is very well designed, has some of the best track design, and great gameplay mechanics...including a cockpit view. ($7) 2. Magic Pengel - a small but beautiful RPG where you draw and fight your own monsters. The art style is just fantastic. ($45) 3. Culdcept - Incredibly deep and fun monster fighting board game. ($45) 4. Warpath: Jurrassic Park - Actually a PS1 game but a blast to pick up and fight dinosaurs with friends on your PS2. ($40) 5. Theme Park Roller Coaster - A cheaper (and arguably more fun) alternative to JP: Operation Genesis is you want a good park builder on PS2. Its an updated version of Sim Theme Park that was originally released on the PS1 and PC. Runs and plays well with lots of options and the ability to quickly build and ride everything. ($10)
"Blood Will Tell" got an anime adaptation called "Dororo" a few years back. (Not based on the game, but based on the source material that the game was based on.)
Like Hiyaki, Blood will Tell will cost you an ARM and a LEG, it now goes for like 400 on ebay open with instructions. I got mine from gamestop for 10 bux used about a decade ago.
Did anyone notice that one of the songs that is playing on the video is actually from an old Capcom hack-and-slash game that is called Knights of the Round? I think that it is from Stage 5, if I do recall correctly.

I got this on Christmas around 2003-2005ish (I don't remember the exact year) due it being sold for a few bucks in our local Walmart (when we still had Walmart in germany :P). I always had a hunch this would become extremely valuable one day (This game wasn't worth anything when I checked the last time in 2017 or 18), so I'm actually kinda glad it is finally seen as something of a rare, hidden gem :)

10,000 Bullets never got a NTSB-U release, unfortunately. Still, a good alternative to that game in the NTSB-U market that is also a hidden gem that no one talks about is Crimson Sea 2.
Soul nomad is a new one to me, I'll have to keep my eyes open for a copy. On a side note I didn't realise you were a gundam fan too, I spotted the Amida's Hyakuren in the opening scene!
I have a few titles to recommend, for the ps2. Mobile suit Gundam Federation vs Zeon. Battle assault 3 featuring Gundam seed Eureka seven vol 2 the new vision
Tactical became a alternate term for strategy because games like Tactics Oger and Final Fantasy Tactics. Before that games like Shining Force where strategy RPGs.

In line with 10.000 Bullets I'd mention Total Overdose. A game I love and played several times. Has great shoot-dodge mechanics and fun power-ups.

One thing I cant understand is people buying games and not even playing them. Or do people just buy them to make the library look bigger?

"Blood Will Tell" got an anime adaptation called "Dororo" a few years back. (Not based on the game, but based on the source material that the game was based on.)

Like Hiyaki, Blood will Tell will cost you an ARM and a LEG, it now goes for like 400 on ebay open with instructions. I got mine from gamestop for 10 bux used about a decade ago.

I feel like Ring of Red is a game no one talks about but was pretty cool on PS2. Diesel powered mechs are cool to me though.

Gregory Horror Show is one of the best hidden gems on the system.
The gameplay is really unique and I don't think there's something quite like it.
It is so expensive in my country (and probably in any others else). Would really like to play it but it really is too much.

I got this on Christmas around 2003-2005ish (I don't remember the exact year) due it being sold for a few bucks in our local Walmart (when we still had Walmart in germany :P).
I always had a hunch this would become extremely valuable one day (This game wasn't worth anything when I checked the last time in 2017 or 18), so I'm actually kinda glad it is finally seen as something of a rare, hidden gem :)

10,000 Bullets never got a NTSB-U release, unfortunately. Still, a good alternative to that game in the NTSB-U market that is also a hidden gem that no one talks about is Crimson Sea 2.

what capture device did you use. looks decent for ps2 ive tried multple hdmi converts always looks off, and composite is blurry when fast movement.
Strongest aspect of cold winter its the story itself, not just an generic militart story but far more than that
Soul nomad is a new one to me, I'll have to keep my eyes open for a copy.

Had to google SRPG. Never heard that in all my years. I know them as Tactical RPGs.
Tactical became a alternate term for strategy because games like Tactics Oger and Final Fantasy Tactics. Before that games like Shining Force where strategy RPGs.
@@RedSoul001 I always thought the difference between SRPG and TRPG was the party size, with SRPG having a much larger size, and a huge emphasis on field advantage, disgaea for example, while TRPG focus more on party build and weapon types, like Fire Emblem
BLOOD WILL TELL Is based off of Dorororo. A 1940's or so Anime that was Rebooted on Amazon Prime in 2019
And now were stuck with microtransactions and DLC's.
