I have to agree, Aosth Robotnik is the second best, he is just a perfect depiction of him. Despite the design difference and he is still pretty faithful to his game counterpart as he wears red, black and yellow/or golden, has an overgrown mustache and a bald head like his other portrayals, and the black and red eyes are just sinister and perfect
As far as being considered the definitive look of the character AoStH Robotnik was kind of that for us westerners for most of the 90s, as outside of his own cartoon his design was most often the one being used in official merchandise along with on the American artwork for some of the Game Gear games and for his McDonald's Happy Meal toy promoting Sonic 3 on the Genesis. Not to mention giving him his own spin-off game with Mean Bean Machine. Of course this was all part of the whole westernization efforts being done for the franchise at the time, so even though he did still have an official Japanese design as Eggman I guess Sega of America figured they could more easily pass off a very different design for him for western audiences when he was otherwise just seen as a 16-bit sprite in the Genesis games. That all changed with the Dreamcast and the redesigned look of all of the characters that was introduced with the Adventure games, where what we now know as the Modern Eggman design from those games became the new official look for him that AoStH Robotnik was for us in the 90s, along with there now being a greater synergy between us and Japan as far as localizing the games and having less of our own separated style and canon for them.
Negative Eggman makes him sound like a massive downer. 😂 But you are right. Honestly, Sol Eggman is the name I'd go for. Nice quick abbreviation that does what it says on the tin. Maybe Solbotnik if I'm feeling a bit zesty.
I think another version of Eggman you would enjoy is from the Sonic Otherworldly Calendar. This series of calendar stories (which are canon to the games) gives us a new Eggman Super Form called Dr. Lightman in all his golden glory. He has a golden hue over his otherwise modern design, red lightning covering his body, a brilliant golden mustache to rival Nightmare Eggman's, and to top it all off, he has the Phantom Ruby from Sonic Forces implanted directly into his chest giving him the power to rival Super Sonic.
Hey I’m wondering. Are you gonna make a Sonic design ranking video? I know you already did a ranking of the 3d models but I’d really like to see a Sonic design ranking that includes not just game designs but also the movie designs, some comic designs, and designs from the tv shows.
Got to the end of the video, heard your piece on 06 Eggman, and I agree Jimbotnik's (MAYBE*) final design should've taken more cues from it for simplicity's sake.... And I also think you should've rerecorded the whole video to properly include it because it would put more work on you. Happy New Year!
21:16 I have to say I like it, I do like the red belt that goes around the belly of Eggman. Thinking about how the new movie 3 toys are made, the belt actually works well with the the movable waist while the toy of the movie 2 outfit figure breaks kinda bad without it.
my favorite Robotnik's design is deffinetly a disguise suit from Sonic shuffle and IDW comics. I just love this coat and a hat, this really fits his years like more casual and classical old man look. Add cane to it and you have a perfect look of Eggman, when he is not trying to take over the world and I just love this casuality, cause even though Eggman's look is robotic and millitary, I think we should have more casual designs, like how he may look in his free time, when he does normal things, not fighting blue hedgehogs
Man, I'm so glad to see AoStH's Robotnik so high. Outside of the obvious TH-cam Poop connection, this Robotnik just has so much AURA, from his design to Long John Baldry's absolutely iconic vocal performance. I'd never actually heard the story of them trying to make "TV's sexiest fat man", but boy did they succeed on this man's aura alone.
I'll say this for Sonic '06 Eggman - prior Eggman looks were goofy to me in a fun way, and post-'06 were just the right mix of menacing and cartoony, but '06 Eggman himself was the first and only time I ever found him truly intimidating.
Great video you ever considered making a video on fan base redesign for eggman cause for some reason eggman always gets the best redesigns from fans in comparison to any other character
AoSTH Robotnik's design, personality and overall vibe are immaculate. He's iconic for a reason. If it isn't the memes, it's his theme and his voice given by the late Long John Baldry. PINGAS may be iconic but the way Baldry said "No!" and "SILENCE!" *in the same episode* is even more iconic. Seriously, there's a *nearly five hour* compilation video of Long John Baldry's performance as Robotnik which is both good for those that can't get enough of animation's sexiest fat man or his beautiful voice and need a source for any projects that require AoSTH Robotnik, be it YTPs, clips for specific moments or just the faces the tyrannical doctor makes throughout the show. There's also Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Which while it is a reskin of Puyo Puyo, it's a reskin that has a rom hack that completely overhauls certain aspects of the game to be more Sonic-esque. There's mods across several different games that have AoSTH Robotnik replace a specific character. Most notable ones I know of is a Sonic 3 A.I.R. mod where he replaces his game counterpart and a Puyo Puyo Tetris mod where he replaces Satan and has an Alt Voice that uses clips of the late Deem Bristow as Eggman/Robotnik during the 'Adventure era'. AoSTH Robotnik being below current day Eggman makes sense though. Second place may mean you lost first, but it also means you still did better than everyone else.
in defense of classic eggman's design, i feel that sonic's branding now, especially under the work of tyson hesse in the animated stuff, has aimed to "cuteify" eggman, with his renders and keyart from the 90s of classic eggman being something i find far more menacing than anything nowadays. they made classic eggman work as a visually compelling and intimidating villain back then but because of who eggman is in terms of branding now, it falls flat.
Maybe it’s nostalgia but the Adventures of Sonic/fleetway comic , mean bean machine game version is probably my favorite. I grew up on those comics. That to me is the REAL Robotnik.
Personally I really like the classic Eggman design, especially the OVA. He's got the biggest body of all the classic Eggmen and he's also really expressive, using his actual eyes a lot ("Modern" Classic Eggman does this too in stuff like Mania Adventures and the Superstars prequel shorts). Despite his more outlandish design, he feels more grounded and human because of stuff like that, which endears him more to me
I'll be honest, I mostly agree with your list. I'm a huge Dr. Eggman/Robotnik fan, and I've always enjoyed the modern design of Robotnik. It feels like a natural evolution of the classic look as he becomes more unhinged and obsessed with beating Sonic (this was even a joke in Sonic Generations, where Classic Eggman asks "will I really get that crazy?"). But, I have a certain fondness for the hilariously over exaggerated AOSTH design. And it's not often people defend this design, as its often considered a downgrade from SATAM Robotnik. In my opinion; AOSTH wins out on the design notes we got alone, but it also perfectly showcases who Robotnik is as a character. Robotnik believes he is the greatest thing Mobius has ever had, and boasts and pronounces himself as the greatest person alive. But underneath that confidence is a child throwing a temper tantrum when someone makes fun of him in a comic. AOSTH Robotnik is a huge fat doofus that everyone pokes fun at, but just as many people fear because while he is a giant joke; you never know what he's going to do next. SATAM Robotnik also does get a point for the in lore boost to his mechanical design. Robotnik used the tech to Roboticize people, but he never had any intention of using it on himself. In the first episode; Sonic escapes from Robotnik, and he gets shoved into the device; which is how he gets his robotic arm. This interaction is also what triggers Robotnik's absolute hatred of Sonic, as he ruined his perfection, as SATAM Robotnik longed to be the only human living in a land full of loyal obeying Robots; and now he'll never be perfect because of that Hedgehog.
Even though the design for the first movie is bland for the 1st movie, I love that in each movie he turns more and more into the Robotnik we all know and love and how Sonic the hedgehog changed Robotnik every time Sonic defeats him at the end.

intresting that you did Mr. Dr. Eggman, but not the other 4 (since all 5 are 1/5th of the normal Eggman) also there is 1 outfit that should have been included, his purple raincoat from IDW issue 69 (nice)
Nice video but you sadly forgot Mr. Tinker, Robo-Robotnik v1.0, Robo-Robotnik v2.0, Warden Zobotnik, Doctor Ivanna Robotina, Anti-Robotnik (Dr. Ivo Kintobor) and a ton of 1 note eggmans from the Archie comics that I dont care enough to add or look for their names. Sorry I had to be that guy
The Chaos Council really should have been the different versions of Robotnik from the shows (and Snively in the place of Satam Robotnik.) teaming up with game Eggman. Prime was made by the same company that made the old shows too! It should have brought closure to the old shows since they never got full endings. And maybe they could have explained what dimension the Super Emeralds went to and why they were replaced with normal Chaos Emeralds, maybe even having it be explained that some Hyper guardian (maybe Nazo as a bit of Sonic X fan service.) swapped out the Super Emeralds due to how destructive they could’ve been if Eggman got ahold of them. Also Fun fact: The director for Prime really wanted Scratch and Grounder in the show.
I do feel there were a few other notable designs you should've included. These being Robo-Robotnik, King Shahryar, the pajama concept Eggman and Mr. Tinkerer. I feel that they're all notable enough, play a big enough part in the history of Eggman design or stand out enough to be included. Perhaps a few others like Super Eggman from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog could've been rated too, although it does feel it's getting a bit pretentious at that point.
Okay but what about the Light-Man look? Y’know; the glowing gold Super Eggman from Otherworld Comedy, with the Phantom Ruby in its chest. I personally love that look; it’s clearly taking a lot from Super Sonic, but since that’s intentional on Eggman’s part, I really like what that brings to the design.
I think that Mr. Dr. Eggman from Sonic Prime looks like he was trying to half dress up as Ace Ventura Pet Detective because the design of that wig looks similar to the hairstyle that Jim Carrey had in those 2 90s movies. Lol. I also think that the thing of him not looking much like Eggman in the first movie and have him look some amount more like the game version in the second movie was most likely a behind-the-scenes idea of how to get Jim Carrey to stay for that second movie because I've heard that the main reason why he rarely does sequels is because he doesn't like being exactly the same in a sequel movie as he was in a first one. I agree that Eggman's modern in-game design is the best one.
The one from early fleetway comics actually originates from american box arts drawn by the late greg martin, not to mention they were responsible for the dr ovi kintobor origin.

That all changed with the Dreamcast and the redesigned look of all of the characters that was introduced with the Adventure games, where what we now know as the Modern Eggman design from those games became the new official look for him that AoStH Robotnik was for us in the 90s, along with there now being a greater synergy between us and Japan as far as localizing the games and having less of our own separated style and canon for them.
never seen a video completely shit itself in the last 2 minutes of the video.
well done.
why oh why does this man need zips on his arms
2:49 I bursted out laughing at this one, not the suit but how you introduced the ranking.
Yeah, AoStH is great. It's so grotesque and expressive, and actually genuinely terrifying in a lot of Richard Elson's illustrations!
I love how sharp dressed Jim Carrys Eggman is
you could always say “Negative Eggman” instead of Nega since that’s what it’s short for
Negative Eggman makes him sound like a massive downer. 😂 But you are right. Honestly, Sol Eggman is the name I'd go for. Nice quick abbreviation that does what it says on the tin.
Maybe Solbotnik if I'm feeling a bit zesty.
@ yeah lol
Solbotnik is pretty good
I think another version of Eggman you would enjoy is from the Sonic Otherworldly Calendar.
This series of calendar stories (which are canon to the games) gives us a new Eggman Super Form called Dr. Lightman in all his golden glory.
He has a golden hue over his otherwise modern design, red lightning covering his body, a brilliant golden mustache to rival Nightmare Eggman's, and to top it all off, he has the Phantom Ruby from Sonic Forces implanted directly into his chest giving him the power to rival Super Sonic.
my top 5 is AOSTH, Modern Eggman (Uekawa/Adventure 1 styled specifically), early STC, Movie 2, and Classic Robotnik
Robotnik is helped to be intimidating by Shadowing him. Classic Robotnik can look scary when Shadowed too.
True! Lighting and composition do a lot for a design.
9:38 funnily enough I'm pretty sure it's the opposite. The satam design came first and the aosth design was designed as a more cartoony satam robotnik
*E.G.G.M.A.N!!*
Number 21 looks like a rejected character design from the Despicable Me movies.
Nice seeing you here man.
Ngl I kinda forgot the classic robotnik fit exists cuz I have seen fleetway robotnik so much
21:16 I have to say I like it, I do like the red belt that goes around the belly of Eggman.
28:00 bro Amy's eyes 💀
Aimy
Her eyes are as vacant as her head. She's sooo stoopid and that's why we like her.
Eggman 06 - No.22 i fucking hate that design it’s the fact his glasses aren’t stuck to his face and u can even get a glimpse of his eyes ugh🤢🤮
Happy New Year's Eve Pup awesome vid to end the year of Shadow 🖤❤️
Man, I'm so glad to see AoStH's Robotnik so high. Outside of the obvious TH-cam Poop connection, this Robotnik just has so much AURA, from his design to Long John Baldry's absolutely iconic vocal performance. I'd never actually heard the story of them trying to make "TV's sexiest fat man", but boy did they succeed on this man's aura alone.
Sonic Riders Robotnik reminds me of Gru from Dispicable Me
1:47 Probably resembling the one from SATAM

It wasn't until watching this video I realized AOSTH Robotnik looks kinda like Squidward .
It's the Bert nose and big eyes LuL
Great list man
this helps a lot figuring out my Doomsday Eggman design
Finally, someone who has some taste in 06 Eggman
in defense of classic eggman's design, i feel that sonic's branding now, especially under the work of tyson hesse in the animated stuff, has aimed to "cuteify" eggman, with his renders and keyart from the 90s of classic eggman being something i find far more menacing than anything nowadays. they made classic eggman work as a visually compelling and intimidating villain back then but because of who eggman is in terms of branding now, it falls flat.
My favourite movie dr robotnik designs in my opinion
1. 19:36
2. 24:12
3. 18:42
4. 7:25
5. 4:29
P.s nice👌 21:13
Maybe it’s nostalgia but the Adventures of Sonic/fleetway comic , mean bean machine game version is probably my favorite. I grew up on those comics. That to me is the REAL Robotnik.
I love the circuit board look on movie 3’s final look
Classic Eggman really looks creepy and villainous when they put the shadows over his face
Even though the design for the first movie is bland for the 1st movie, I love that in each movie he turns more and more into the Robotnik we all know and love and how Sonic the hedgehog changed Robotnik every time Sonic defeats him at the end.
your channel is an absolutely goldmine after ive watched so many biased movie critics. its so boring. none of them dare to have a unique opinion that challenges the perspective of others. i dont agree with some of your opinions but youre the best, a fresh breath of air haha
You're too kind! Thank you! Granted there's a tonne of great TH-camrs I can recommend in my recommended channels section. They'll be the gift that keeps on giving!
Surprised the purple coat and hat Sonic Shuffle design didn't make.
21:20 that’s exactly how I feel about insomniac’s black suit from Marvels Spider Man 2.
3:54 uhm Mr. Pup, when was this ever the case? I remember Sonic Rush being canon, not Rivals? Where did you get this info from?
Mario & Sonic at the 2020 Olympic Games. I figured given that that's his most recent appearance.
rivals is also canon. that's silver's introduction after 06.
@@ZoomToMalware I remember Rivals explicitly not being canon due to the discrepancy in whether or not Eggman Nega was from the future or Blaze’s dimension and it already being established that Rush was definitively canon
@@ChannelPup I didn’t even know he was in that game lol
intresting that you did Mr. Dr. Eggman, but not the other 4 (since all 5 are 1/5th of the normal Eggman)
also there is 1 outfit that should have been included, his purple raincoat from IDW issue 69 (nice)
23:37 i still prefer the messed up modern movie design from the finale than the early movie 3 version or movie 2
Me too.
Bro where tf is maid eggman from sonic 2 that's my favorite eggman design
22:10 PURPLE GUY!?!?!?!
Happy new year eve
One thing we cant deny about the 90s americanization of Sonic, they kinda nailed it with the cartoony Eggman design
Someone need to do a ranking of all of Eggman's assistance like I want to see how people stack Stone up with Orbot and Cubot ect.
20:35 I have to be honest I can not see those things in the actual movie, so it should not count
I have wondered what modern Robotnik would look like in the STC and Archie outfits that they wore such as Grand Vizier Robotnik
If you don’t know Sega said that Eggman Nega doesn’t have a PHD. And Ian Flynn said that he died at the end of Sonic Rivals 2
I do recall the Western box art for Sonic 2 giving Robotnik hollowed out eyes and a beard.
4:53 I'm pretty sure he DOES GET FAT, and it's supposed to be Eggman BEFORE he went insane, where in the 2nd and 3rd movies, he becomes MORE game accurate
Can you upload the video where your raging over sonic frontiers gameplay? The one where you eventually tell sega to sell sonic because they don't know what they are doing lol
Yeah nah, we're not going back to that. I was in a bit of a dark place at the time with Sonic being kinda a reprieve, so I was overreacting hard.
@ChannelPup oh well it was worth an ask lol
