Yes. Circa 1985. I had a suit and woman’s business “tie” like that when I worked for a steel company in 1986. And since we career women were entering the men’s business world, we had to dress like them and also we couldn’t show any feminine mystique i.e. like we knew how to bake! I remember someone suggested we make Christmas cookies and bring them in to share with the recipe. I brought in slice and bake cookies, and I wrote that up as the recipe! I couldn’t admit that I knew how to bake and wear an apron in that environment! But that was the culture back then. Also, men smoked @ work. And they even smoked cigars at their desk!
I’m so glad I discovered your channel last week. I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for bringing me down memory lane and for just making me smile.
I know them as Hello Dollies and make them with the butterscotch h chips. I made them for a Super Bowl party this last winter and they were a huge hit! Still a fave in 2023!
I JUST picked up the ingredients to make these again! 😂 The classic version with butterscotch chips are one of my favorite cookies. We always called them Magic Cookie Bars growing up. I kind of love that they go by so many different names!
Thank you! These were a super fun casual bake. And the ad...amazing. I've been saving a bunch of them on Pinterest lately. Lots more vintage ads to come!
So I haven't even watched the video yet. But I clicked this video PURELY based on the fact that you posted the results of your experiment IN THE TITLE! THANK YOU for saying you loved it in the title! I despise when I can't tell a person's opinion of a product until the last 2 minutes of the video. ❤️❤️
This is SUCH a helpful comment. Common advice for new and smaller content creators is to leave some mystery in titles and thumbnails - in other words, make 'em click-baity. I'm going to try and give more info in my video titles regarding recipe results. So thank YOU!
If coffins were made out of graham crackers and butter, I think I would fake my death just so I could eat my way out of the coffin and come back and scare the heck out of everybody!
7 layer bars are awesome !! Oh goodness the 80s were awesome with these M&Ms delicious. I’m behind on videos working on watching today. Some ppl sick in the house and been busy washing everything over and over lol. Love the share. Never seen sweetened condensed milk in squeeze thing by the way. Have a great weekend Anna
Oh I hope everyone feels better soon! I seem to have more and more nostalgic feelings toward the 1980s the older I get, especially when it comes to food. Hope you have a nice weekend as well, Jerri-ellen!
I wonder how these would be with peanut butter m&ms and/or peanut butter chips? I just don't understand why I am not losing any weight right now,it's very mysterious 😁
Oh I love this! I will always love Magic Cookie Bars/7 Layer Bars, but the M&Ms really do make for a nice change! I love the crunch of the candy shells.
I have never made these but I do remember the advertisement, They look delicious. Would've been a wonderful lunchbox treat at school. Wish my mom made them for me.
A very pretty bar that looks to have a chewy texture. And I love the easy steps in preparing and small list of ingredients too. Thanks for another nice recipe. Love from ky.
I have actually never heard of these by any of its name lol They seem to be the cousin to the monster cookie so I don't think one could go wrong making and eating this. Although with my weakness for sweets, I would really needto reduce to making this only in one single serving size at a time.
Oh wow! See, there I go again, just assuming everyone knows about these. They aren't really similar to Monster Cookies, if you're referring to the oatmeal/peanut butter/M&M type of cookies. These have more of a caramel/coconut/chocolate thing happening. Although I supposed you could add a peanut butter element with Reeses Pieces...now I'm getting ideas! 😄

Thank you for this explanation and story! The ad makes more sense now. I definitely remember seeing those blouses with the tie/bow!
In the part of Iowa I grew up in, these bars (Seven Layer Bars) always included walnuts. A pot luck favorite!
They're SO good! I'll have to try them with walnuts.
I’m so glad I discovered your channel last week. I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for bringing me down memory lane and for just making me smile.
Oh that's great! That's exactly the effect I would like my videos to have - bringing back nice memories. 😊

As bright, cheery and colourful as the look on that woman's face! These turned out great Anna! Lovely with the M&Ms!

If coffins were made out of graham crackers and butter, I think I would fake my death just so I could eat my way out of the coffin and come back and scare the heck out of everybody!
Oh this is very ML! 😂 Totally agree though...graham crackers and butter make for such a winning combination.

No nuts gang!! yay!
My grandmother made 7-layer bars every year for Christmas, now my mom makes them. I’ve never seen them with m&ms before! Looks delicious!
Oh I love this! I will always love Magic Cookie Bars/7 Layer Bars, but the M&Ms really do make for a nice change! I love the crunch of the candy shells.
Hi Anna! These bars look great! I’m going to make these for my grand babies! They will love the m&ms
Hi Mindy! I think they will love these. They are so chewy and delicious!
I have never made these but I do remember the advertisement, They look delicious. Would've been a wonderful lunchbox treat at school. Wish my mom made them for me.
These always seemed to be around for the holidays at my house growing up. I hope you get to try them!

The M&Ms made them so colorful and fun! Glad you enjoyed this recipe.
These look so fun and delicious!
They were SO good. I kind of want to make another batch!
Those look so delicious
They really were. The candy shells from the M&Ms have such a nice crunch!
Thanks so much
Thanks for watching, Doris!
Those look delicious!
Looks delicious😋
Thank you 😋
Definitely early 1980s. My elementary school newsletter used that same font.
My college dining hall made these. Minus the M&Ms and possibly minus the nuts due to allergy concerns. They were one of our favorites.

Cookies bars were all the rage then.
I just love a bar cookie. I love a regular cookie too, but sometimes I don't feel like doing all that scooping or rolling and cutting. 😂
I'm gonna guess that you are a Leo.
