    I have a 25 year old Servend cuber that I rescued from the Trash from a diamond shamrock here in CO that has been reliably making ice for camping in the summer for 20 years for me. I was 18 when I rescued it. I cut my teeth on that ice machine, now I work on all of them, simple devices but they like attention. You are correct in saying that just dong the PM's and cleaning will teach you everything you need to know.

    I like this guy over the hvacr video guy because this dude I can relate to when he runs calls the other guy on TH-cam just seems like he spends 6hrs at everycall trying to fix every last unit on the building and it gives guys a false hope about how much time they get to spend at one call, myself like most guys have so many calls to get to we have to figure it out get it running temporarily and come back and do a more in depth look if not the boss is calling you asking what’s taking so long because he’s got customers calling because we’re past the time frame we gave them.

    Very good video! The ONLY problem I have with anything that you said was in relation to the cleanliness of the condenser. You can't tell just by looking how clean a condenser is. I supervised a 50 man shop and one of the most common causes of a HPCO was a dirty condenser that the mechanic said "looked" clean!

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its been a almost a year ago so I cant say for certain but when I looked under the coil, I was looking for light through the coil but your correct, I normally try to wash out my condenser weather it needs it or not. No water near by at this location. Thanks for the feedback!

    Learned more in the past 11 minutes.
    One exception: they gave us new USB drives with updated firmware that increases the harvest time limit up to 7 minutes before it locks out.

    Great Video Rick- Ive heard of sulfur water- had a tech tell me a cooler at a dairy farm that he serviced always had leaking evap and condenser coils, it was caused by that sulfur water stuff

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it's one of those things people on public water haven't heard of. I would think cetin parts of the country it might be more or less common. It's a real pain for some one that has it because of the damage it can do to electrical connections, refrigeration, and other items in the home. I believe it has a lot to do with how much oil you have underground, my area of Ohio has a lot of oil that was drilled for back in the early 1900's but its the " harder" to produce oil. (I'm not a oil expert)

    Good to see you had an extra key pad. I carry a Carrier Marquee in my truck. The buttons don’t work very good but it gets me through for diagnosing. Like on most equipment with key pads if they don’t work it’s like a bad marriage, no communication. Without communication you’re just shooting in the dark. I’ve just started a TH-cam sight myself. Go check it out. ACtech Formally yo mama. No one took me serious when I was yo mama lol.

      @@actechformallyyomama746 there are several good books and TH-cam channels on this subject. Mainly what every one of them have said is just be yourself. Good vid. sometime new parts will fail just like the old part, so i try to make it better if quick and easy. on that one the Water curtain - i Would just ruff up both mating surfaces on trim piece and put a layer of ge silicone 2 clear between curtain and trim piece and then secure with the 4 screws. Then when u return with the new parts breaker , key pad , u can remove the 4 screws. it may last longer than a New part bound to fail the same way again unless they reengineered the replacement part.

    Great timing on a ice machine. Very useful information I wasn't aware of ( 7degree split ) and other refrigeration issues. You mentioned of an air compressor? Is that to assist in harvest? I have read but not seen machines with this feature. One other question, with those big curtains hanging over the grid, how do you inspect the ice pattern? Thanks for sharing.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some machines use a solenoid to push the ice off the plate, Manitowoc uses a little vibrating air compressor to create slight pressure behind the ice to help it fall off faster.

    • @HVACRSurvival

      the curtain can lift up and out I just couldn't do it with one hand on the video before it would go into Harvest so I didn't do it.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The control I have on my truck was off a system we retired, it didn't cost me anything. I'm not sure if I'm following you on the next comment about its going to be expensive? A keypad is going to be cheap vs the whole controller? If I'm wrong then I'll order the control board. Otherwise I'm replacing more than what's needed running up a bill?

      HVACR Survival I understand, but now days, our labor is what’s expensive, if you have to return again to fix it, and whenever you have to return, especially more than once, the customer thinks” this guy don’t know what he’s doing, although your intentions are honorable, and trying to save them money, no good deed goes unpunished. For this reason I carry a Turbo 200 although they are expensive, you don’t have to come back, and always have the right cap, and no stock sitting idle bouncing around the truck.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand what your saying now, yes I agree with you, this ice machine is under warranty and a leased machine in addition to that, only replacing the keypad is how the factory has choosen to authorize the repair the least few times so that's a lot of the reason why I had done it this way. If the item is out of warranty and depending on the scope of the job I will replace most items that could cause future failures at the same time as your mentioning, It's all dependent on a job by job bases 👍👍

      Must be new to diagnostics... I'm pretty sure knowing what code happened last without having to calculate the date and time kind of helps speed up the process if the machine works fine while there. Thanks for watching!

    Every time I see an ice machine, it is nasty as all get out. Even in the most high maintained business, that have ice machines. Why? Even where I've work. Tell them I'll wash it out. They say nope the excuse is it'll screww it up and cost too much to get repaired ???? But making people sick is okay????

      I take care of some hospitals that have me do it every 3 months. That is really about when they should be maintained. Standard is usually six months. The more yeast (from bread and doug) in the air you have, the more problems with nasty looking machines you will have.

    Great video you do best that why everyone wants you
    An engineer dies and arrives at the Pearly Gates.
    St. Peter looks and looks but cannot find his name in the book, so tells him he must go to the other place. When he arrives Lucifer is giving him the grand tour. The engineer tells him that all this heat will not do and he knows how to fix it. First he builds an icemaker so they can have cold drinks. Then he builds an A/C system to bring the ambient air temperature down to comfortable levels. Meanwhile God notices what's going on and decides to do something about it. He tells Lucifer that there was a clerical error and the engineer is supposed to be in Heaven. Lucifer tells God that they like this new guy and they are going to keep him. God tells Lucifer that he will sue to get him back. Lucifer starts laughing and God asks him, "What's so funny?". Lucifer replies, "Where are you going to get a lawyer?".

    I have barely any water spraying

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  ปีที่แล้ว

      Clean the machine by taking it apart, the cleaner is not a technician in a bottle.

      @@HVACRSurvival cleaned pretty good like I have for last 10 years. This time I think the water pump is going bad because it cannot push he water up there by the evaporator. I see it sucking the water, but hardly any from the top. And it's clean from inside. No obstruction

      Are you referring to the keypad screen? I have replaced just the keys and made a video of it but we don't fix the controller.

    Move the fkn curtain the machine always starts up in a harvest cycle.... Lol

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not my first machine 🤣. Rewatch The video. I didn't say it was in a harvest, the problem was it wasn't running the compressor while it said it was making ice. When it's in a harvest it doesn't tell you it's making ice.🙈

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How long did it freeze before going into harvest?

    • @nwfprowrestling
      @nwfprowrestling 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Safe mode is either ice thickness sensor or water level sensor. Take your manual and test the frequency on the screen

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Hector Hernandez check the water sensor freq by tapping it, it should reach in the high thousands. That board should have a minimum freeze time prior to harvest, it almost sounds like the board is defective. Make sure the curtain switch is staying closed.
