Hi, I'm Charlotte Dobre. I'm an actor, reactor, singer and sometimes (not really) comedian. On this channel I do reactions, commentary and occasionally I make a joke or two. I love poking fun at social media, weddings, entitled people, tiktok and OF COURSE petty people. I upload daily, usually 7 days a week, unless life gets crazy or I get lazy. Come hang out, it's a good time.

In 1997, my brother, a police detective, and I were interviewed on "Unsolved Mysteries". I did my own minimal makeup before we came to the set, and the makeup artist looked at me, and said, "You look fine", then went to work on my brother and the detective. OMG! Wow. I don't wear make-up, and even I know that! Clean them as often as you would your hair brush. If I did wear make-up, I couldn't keep using the same brushes and sponges time after time after time; I'd be too OCD-ish to do that. Also, wouldn't the quality of work be diminished by using dirty brushes and sponges (and worse, the dirtier the tools)?
I have a continued pimpled face (it's up and down of how many pimples I have), but that's, I think, from stress (at least partly, I believe).

    • @midnaphai
      @midnaphai ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@can_b_crazywerid Stress can be a main cause for skin irritations, but could also be caused by constant use of makeup, insufficient hygiene, dry skin and many other reasons. Remove makeup soon as you don't expect to see anyone you want to impress that day anymore. Make sure you give your skin some time to breathe and if you clean it with soap definitely apply some hydration after. Baby products often work better for sensitive skin bc the health regulations are a lot stricter on them than perfumized beauty products stuffed with tons of unnecessary bs. Try to not touch your face in any place outside a bathroom after just washing your hands. Might not fix all problems but a bit of personal wellness never hurt anyone, take care of yourself ^^

Reviews don’t always reflect what a makeup artist can actually do. I hired a 5 star makeup artist for my wedding. I brought natural looking examples and long story short, she piled me up with mariposa makeup (sold at dollar tree), didn’t blend it and then coloured my entire eyelid with black ink eyeliner. I looked almost the same as the last girl in this video. I lost the $250 retainer because I was told I was unreasonable for not being happy with the look and didn’t know what professional makeup looked like. FYI in the comments: microblading is actually NOT permanent and will fade over a year or two depending on your skin, care, and quality of work done. You actually need to touch it up a month after doing it the first time as it fades most in that period of time.
Also when just done, the lines will be STRONG and THICK, this is absolutely normal, I looked like I had massive caterpillars when I done mine and was so surprised the first time but it is actually expected.
The girl that has messed up eyebrows actually will see her lines fade and slimmer over time when it heals.

They acted like I kicked their dog or something when I insisted I didn't want the glam look with giant thick false lashes. I finally reached out to someone I grew up with (our moms were besties and we were born 2 hours apart) who has a beauticians license, though she mostly does nails these days. Asked her if she'd handle my hair, nails, and makeup. I was done sooo dirty by a MUA when I was a bridesmaid. The bride had a friend that she insisted did all our makeup even though I wanted to do my own. The makeup artist met us all first to get an idea of what she would be doing. The problem was, the bride and all the bridesmaids and MOH was blond haired and very fair skinned while I'm olive toned with dark hair. She did the same thing for all of us and they all looked gorgeous while I looked like a ghost and my face didn't match my neck...like at all lol. I was embarrassed but the bride wouldn't let me re-do it myself. I was the only one that looked like absolute shit in the wedding photos. I can't believe that she didn't take my darker skin tone into consideration smh. That was 15 years ago and I'm still upset lol. I haven't had a MUA do my makeup since 😂

Make up is overrated. I think its another curse of the patriarchy like shaving. Anyway, I went through my "Mary Kay" phase and tried to learn to use makeup because I thought it was a requirement being a woman. . After a while it was just too much of a hassle. Especially if you live in a climate that's always humid and full of allergens. Couldn't not rub my eyes. I'm in my 60s now and over it.

With the last girl, all I could think was “she charges money for this???? The woman is intimidated by the concept of contour?”
I had my makeup done once at Sephora. It wasn’t bad, I would even say it was a good job but I realized that I could have done a better job. The mua picked a cooler purple eyeshadow look that didn’t really match my own colouring and didn’t know the tricks for hooded eyes. But it was wearable and I got to try a bunch of products that I wouldn’t have otherwise so I view it as a win. But I think I’ll stick to doing my own makeup 💄

In response to the micro blading one, it always looks strong immediately after it’s done because the ink hardens a bit on top of your skin. It scabs off (don’t pick at it) and then you see the final result. So it looks like her brows will turn out good. Mine looked like that when I had them done too but they turned out very natural.

I get my makeup professionally done every so often for photo shoots. Charlotte, you are right that you need to also find the right makeup look for your face shape. One of the artists and I had a conversation about it after she had a rough go with a previous client that day for the shoots. Makeup on the face is much like what you do with your hair, you have to find a look to compliment. And sometimes a makeup artist can do all they know for the look you want… if it doesn’t match your face it isn’t going to look right.

As a professional makeup artists, I do agree with Charlotte that the way makeup looks on pictures and models will not look the same. However, it's our job to know how to change it to suit the client's face/eyes/lips and skin texture.
You help your clients understand for example if they have warm undertones that you can't use cool undertones on them and you alternate it a little to suit them. But they still should come out stunning and a million percent satisfied.

The thing is, no one does this glam makeup everyday. It's all for show and social media. I've seen someone walk down the street with a full glam face on and honestly, it looks ridiculous. Like Charlotte said, most of the glam shots are simply edited to perfect the shape and make the colors pop. I fear for the skin and bank account of the person who puts on all that super-heavy makeup daily. And each of those looks take hours to do!
That said, I always went for the more natural look, because I was too lazy and apathetic to do more, plus I never had the skill. I've now been makeup-free for the last 6 months and I can't believe how much my confidence in my natural self has shot through the roof.

Thank you for emphasizing that there are filters! And different face/eye shapes, therefore no one is going to look like the Instagram models. Plus, most models put on a crazy amount of makeup specifically to show up under lighting, but if you saw them IRL they would look crazy. But I do feel like a good MUA would have a conversation with the client and say something along the lines of: you have hooded eyes, so this won't look the same on you. Here are some things that we can do to achieve results that you would feel confident in.... but, please any professionals in the comments let me know if that works, or do clients just expect to suddenly get turned into a model

I did my own makeup for my wedding. Best decision I ever made. Saved money, between my own skills and my photographer’s it looked stunning, and the stress of doing my own makeup was so much less than the stress of trusting someone who doesn’t know me to do it.
With that being said, it’s very frustrating to watch people compare their makeup looks in low lighting in the back of a car with no filters or photoshop to studio photos with speciality lighting and hours and hours worth of editing. (Not to mention, most of them are models who get facials every week because their face is literally their livelihood.) Like yes, some of these (maybe even most of these) are straight up horrible no matter what lighting you have, but a couple of these weren’t that bad and would probably look decent with good lighting and some light photoshop. This is the problem with bringing highly edited photos to a makeup artist and asking them to make you look like an Instagram filter in real life. Makeup does not remove all texture and acne from your skin. It’s not gonna happen and you have to be realistic in your expectations. Although - filters on social media are making this even harder since now everyone can change their appearance with the press of a button and “realistic” doesn’t even mean what it used to anymore.

I have always worn cat eye eyeliner and it's a part of my normal day-to-day makeup, but one make-up artist/beautician absolutely hated that idea and said it looked trashy or something. (She was over 50 years old, if that counts.) She refused at first to make a nice cat eye for (the national equivalent of) my prom, but after I insisted, she reluctantly did the tiniest cat eye I have ever seen. My makeup started to deteriorate after the first dances and I had to touch it up myself after. No primer was used, so there was no way my eyeshadow was gonna stay in place on my greasy eyelids lol. I stopped going there for my acne treatments shortly after. This was when I was like 17 years old. Might have been a coincidence but my skin got a lot clearer after that.

When u sprain an ankle you damage the soft tissue such as muscle and the tendons now that swelling is gone there is no cushion for those things. Your muscle is now trying to heal back from being stretched to far and that can be painful for up to a month even. Soaking in epsom salt can help and over the counter pain creams.

Only once did I visit a full service hotel salon for a full meal deal: cut, color, style + makeup and nails for a big evening event. I left with 1" dye line covered up with makeup that melted before dressing. The nails puckered within hours. Two days later I returned to complain, the salon had closed down without notice! $200 down and out. I was probably the last customer they screwed over (pre-internet & SM).

The only make up I wear is mascara, eyeliner, eyebrows, and tinted lip balm. Foundation make up never matches skin tone, or covers imperfections, unless it is custom made for you.

Maybe someone can explain something to me. People said that they went to the worst rated makeup artist, then showed the horrible job they got done. Did they expect a miracle to happen? They dropped however much money to get their makeup done by the someone who is recognized as bad at their job, and they expected what? Why do people do this?

Most people who do it are TH-camrs and they mainly do it for the content. There’s one girl, her first name is Judy but I can’t remember her last name, and she’s got 1mil+ followers just from videos like that. I follow her and I think the way she got started was because originally she needed her makeup done and didn’t have much money so she went to a lower rated artist that she could afford and it turned out horrible and she thought that the woman was just messing with her at first but then she realized that the woman genuinely thought she had done a professional makeup job. So, that’s when she started thinking about going to other 1 star rated makeup artists. It’s actually comical to watch. There are actually a lot of videos on TH-cam of people going to 1 star rated places.

I’m so glad that I was young before the days of the internet, no instagram or anything even close and esp no photoshop or filters. I did my own makeup for my wedding and it looked lovely if I say so. No contours, no highlighters or face baking lol.
    Life was easier back then

This is why I will always so a trial makeup look days or Weekes before the event so I am confident in the trust I put with the person doing my makeup, especially for big events

We went to my cousin's wedding a few weeks ago, and it was not where we live, so a friend of mine knew a person who recommended a makeup artist. She not only took so long to get my mom ready, while the bride's make up artist did 5 people, including the bride and styled their hairs, it was horrible. I kept checking to see if it would get better, and at some point my aunt asked my uncle to put a mirror there so my mom would see all the way. And my mom had to ask her to ease on it especially her eyebrows.
At some point I had to hold a laugh, because it was horrible and I felt so bad for my mom. I don't like putting make up on, so I just put on some sunscreen and lipstick, and the make up artist was pushing me to let her do my makeup. And it was annoying, because I really don't like it.
My mom ended up having an allergy reaction. So her eyes were watering so much. And we got back from the wedding, she was eager to take it all off.
Honestly, the bride's makeup artist could have prepared my mom too, but back then we thought there was no time for her.
I feel so bad for my mom, I wanted to swear at that woman. 😤

But also - a lot of the things the customers wanted as in the reference photos were highly edited photos that just won’t ever look like that in real life -

The eyebrows make a great difference! If it is bad, even the good makeup fails.

I went to beauty school and learned how to apply makeup that was a class we took. Today it seems what we called going out to a club at night is now the daytime look. I do like how some people apply their eye makeup, but the thick thick false eyelashes I can't get used to for a daytime look.
I wish I could wear false eyelashes but I am allergic to the glue. Maybe I try the ones that are sticky or magnetic

I haven’t worn any cosmetics in over two years… I kinda just completely lost my confidence in applying it at all once I realized my closest MALE BEST FRIEND was doing his own cosmetics so well (he’s a drag enthusiast) that I just relented & gave up. Also, it’s SO EXPENSIVE and I could never afford any of the actually good quality products that were worth buying and using regularly. I never liked the fact that it was called “make-up” either, it implies that you’re missing something - what are these corporations implying you to be “making up” for, HUH?!?! lol… even getting nails done is just WAY too expensive for one or two to DEFINITELY break once I attempt to open a can not even two days or less after paying to get them done. I miss it all, but being the lady society expects me to be is just too expensive and honestly I do wish I could afford to keep up with it. 😞

I am so glad I never went to have anyone else apply my makeup. Instead I spent the two weeks before my planned event doing my makeup until I got the look I wanted.
Ladies, wash those brushes and always use new applicators! If a makeup artist cannot fluff the brush without old product flying... *RUN!*

The liquid liner in the water line! 😱 I had my wedding makeup done at a day spa. The same lady did my hair and makeup while the other hairdressers watched (I was the only client that morning). I ended up with extremely basic, flat makeup with very bold (ugly) brows. Foundation and light blush on the face. Dark brow pencil, a single med-beige shadow on the lids, and mascara for the eyes. Lipstick. No dimension, just basic "going to the store" level makeup. I redid it before the ceremony. My one chance to have a pro do it was super disappointing. Looking back I think they offered the service but didn't have an actual artist on staff or quality makeup to use.
