I'll never understand how when people cut their hair they're shocked at how short it is - what did you think was gonna happen when you cut it at the same length as your jawline? 😂😂😂

    • @lisaspikes4291
      @lisaspikes4291 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

That’s why hairstylists always ask me 2-3 times if I really want to go so short when I get my hair cut. I like my hair really short, but it grows really fast, and sometimes it’s months before I remember to make another appointment, so it has grown out a lot! I go in and ask for a short pixie cut, and they’re always asking if I’m sure.

    • @notericforeman
      @notericforeman ปีที่แล้ว +25

trust me, as someone who cuts her own hair, theres like 1-3 inches of “give” and if you’re not expecting it, your hair could end up shorter than you intended. Or, they think its going to be longer because of the way they have their hair pulled and when they release it, the gravity sinks in. I also think a lot of people are playing up reactions for clout because the most popular videos have people freaking tf out

Needless to say, I've seen my fair share of beauty successes and F A I L U R E S. It made me understand just how far women will go for beauty and to feel good about themselves. My fave beauty fail was when I was stylist and one of my fave clients came in with SOS: she’d tried coloring her waist-long, gorgeously thick hair with only one box 😅 she said, “I can’t afford to have you dye it!” And I said, “you can’t afford NOT to!” And we both had a genuine laugh 🤣 what would have been only about $80-$120 done professionally, attempted for $9 worth of DIY, ended up costing around $350 to fix. Just go to a salon and remember: if you can’t afford them, you can’t afford to DIY 😂

My worst beauty fail: I'm brown haired with red reflections, and I wanted to be auburn. I went to this hair salon (not my usual one), and the guy really sold me a dream of a transformation! I took ages, but he explained how perfect it was gonna be, so I waited. The moment he came back and rinsed my hair, I knew something was awfully wrong: he didn't say a word. I watched myself into a mirror...my hair was neon orange. I couldn't say a word, and the guy had the balls to tell me: "At least, it's bright and soooo cheery!" I souldn't have paid, but I was so disgusted (and young) that I did. I had an oral exam the day after, so I was in panic. Fortunately, my usual hair stylist understood my pain and took me without an appointement 2 hours later. She couldn't helped her and burst into laughs when she saw me. I couldn't blame her, and it made me laugh too. No choice, she had to dye my hair black. It was really well done, and to console me, she even refreshed my haircut for free. My sister still have some photos she took with my orange hair, and likes to laugh with me about it. Thank you Gwen, hair stylist of my heart, who saved my hair, my pride and probably my exam!^^

Orange is a base for auburn. Could have used a demi or semi in the color you wanted at that point.
To lighten you enough if you already had hair color in your hair at all they would have to lighten you first. He should have just said okay now we put in the toner and you'll be all set. Super easy fix. I can't believe she had to do black.

Your stylist sucks. You absolutely did NOT have to go black. Commenter above me explains it perfectly, so I'll just talk about my own personal experiences with dying my hair over the past 35yrs. I've had every color imaginable, and I've always done it at home, using professional products as well as box dyes. I've made a ton of ugly mistakes, lol, but I've NEVER had to cover one up with black dye. Your orange hair could've easily been darkened to auburn, or even lightened to a strawberry blond!
If I were you, I'd NEVER see your stylist again; she's lazy, she lied to you, and she literally stole your money! I can't stand "professionals" who take advantage of their client's trust like Gwen did to you!! It's just so gross. Take care, good luck finding an actual decent stylist!!

Also, the person mentioning that they about the kick her out this beauty school - they probably got their hair done at the local beauty school. The youngest. I was DESPERATE because I was waiting for my sister to do it (a trained hairstylist) and she kept forgetting. It was so choppy. Ya I’m never ever trying it again. 😆 This is the reason I'm walking around with three-inch roots! There is *no way in hell* that I could or would try to bleach my dark brown roots to the necessary level for my color preferences. I'd rather have my roots show than burn my scalp or melt off my hair and have to wait for it to grow back.
I have only been to my hair stylist once in the last two years. I'm immunocompromised, so the visit occurred before we knew that I didn't make antibodies to the vaccine. I can keep my vivid colors (currently violet and neon green) bright with direct dyes, as long as the color placement isn't too complicated. It's something I only do with the blessings of my stylist.
Stylists deserve a huge amount of respect for the time and money you put into your education and artistry. After all, I wouldn't perform surgery on myself after watching a couple TH-cam videos!

This! It's been over 15 years but I still remember and give props to Sharon, the "badass aunt" of a stylist who saved my hair. My college roommate wanted to put some bleach streaks in my hair one night, so of course I let her. It was awful. I tried to fix it myself, and over the course of a year, my hair went from healthy, natural light brown to full on damaged bleached mess.
When I was home for a summer break, my mother told me "I made you an appt. with the sister of a coworker. She can help tone your hair down." So off I went.
Goddamn it, Sharon was amazing. She said "You're not the first girl I've seen like this. You guys go to college, get bored and switch up your look, and get in over your head. I know just what to do." In the end, she toned the color down, like a balayage before I even knew what it was, and it grew out unbelievably well, perhaps the best my hair has ever looked.
She became my basic hairdresser for a while after that. She knew I had always wanted to dye my hair black and blue, so I went to one appointment, and she whispered "Hold on a sec." She went into the back and came out with a cart loaded with colors, bowl, equipment -- everything needed for a good coloring appt. She said "I have everything you need right here. I've been saving this for you. Just give me the word and I'll do it, your mom doesn't need to know." 😏 I declined that day, but I always wish I took her up on the offer.
Sharon, wherever you are now, I know you're still saving hair and kicking ass.

@@sluttymctits4496 You can still dye your hair black and blue. I'm 42, and my hair is indigo and neon green. It looks awesome! If you have a job that doesn't allow vivid colors, you could still use fun colors as underlights, or peekaboo pieces. That's actually how I started, but vivid colors are addictive. I slowly got more and more of my hair colored until it's all vivids 😁
For years, I didn't want to stand out by trying the things I really wanted to do. I had no visible tattoos, and kept my hair a "natural" color by dyeing it with body art quality henna. Then, my mom got diagnosed with cancer (she beat it and is fine now) while I was in the hospital with a septic infection. I realized that life is too short to live to please others, and stopped caring so much about what people thought of me.
Oddly, I've gotten a ton of compliments since I stopped trying to be so "normal." Letting my personality show makes me feel strong and beautiful. I think my boost of confidence is what people see now.
If you want to see what I mean by underlights, or check out the changes I've made to my appearance over the last five years, my Instagram handle is uncommonmagpie . Appreciate the comment on ladies' effort, but gotta say it's not always easy for guys too. Don't sell yourself short, in other words -- it's hard to look good, regardless of gender!

I figure anything that toxic doesn't belong on my head!

I'd say it's less to do with whether you're a guy or girl, but more about how much is expected and pushed on you.
My mother absolutely hated having to wear makeup to work and never wore it outside of work unless she was going formal (wedding, special events, etc). So when her two daughters were growing up, she never got us makeup related things, never stressed about our appearances, and even told us she regretted wearing makeup to work since it then became something she *had* to do, but it could still be fun and exciting to do it for other things.
Thus, even though all my friends wore makeup constantly and would be traumitized if people saw their naked face, i only started wearing makeup for theater at the end of high school. I have 0 patience or love for it, so i ask someone to do my makeup and i do most girls' hair that requires any braiding. I'll spend months doing an art project, but i won't spend 10 minutes putting on makeup

Two of my three DNA recipients are girls, and all three are two years apart (yeah, every two years my husband tossed in his sleep and got me pregnant). Anyway, when the girls were four and six, the older one who has pin-straight hair decided her curly-haired little sister should trim it for her. They went into the bathroom while I was washing dishes, and all of a sudden I hear these shrieks of laughter that kept getting louder and more frequent. I knew these two well enough to realize that this category of laughter was NOT good. I ran to the bathroom, flung open the door, and found my oldest with the left side of her hair hanging just below her ear, the other side well above her right ear. Through hysterical giggling, they told me that the younger one who was doing the cutting (and who I will never pay tuition for beauty school for) kept getting one side shorter than the other, until... yeah. So fortunately, our next-door neighbor was a professional hairdresser, and gave my lopsided offspring a really cute cut from what was left. Years later, this same older sibling decided her naturally blonde hair just wasn't blonde enough, so she snuck into the bathroom one night when I was doing the dishes, and bleached it. I don't know where she got the hair bleach from. I also threatened my husband with being tossed into a leaf shredder if he didn't buy me a dishwasher. But anyway, the deed was done, and a month or so later, she realized hair actually grows out in its regular shade, so she somehow got her hands on more bleach. Did she just touch up the roots? Nope. Never one to do things by half measures, she just re-bleached the entire thing. I warned her she was going to fry her hair if she didn't stop. But did she? Not on your life. She had landed a coveted role in the school play, and of course, just before opening night, decided her roots would be super visible under the stage lights so... you guessed it. Well, her hair turned bluish grey, and felt like a helmet when it dried. I had to drive my wilde-eyed freaking out daughter to this place called Salon 9-1-1 to see if there was any hope. They had pretty much seen it all... until my daughter walked in. They had a mini-meltdown of their own trying to figure out what to do. Blonde hair was now off the table (and nearly off her head), so her character came on stage on opening night in a blonde wig, under which was carefully dyed and (much shorter) mega-conditioned brown hair. Oh, and I finally found out where she was getting the hair bleach: a friend who will forever be remembered as "Ha! Her!"

Growing up poor I cut my own hair a lot as a kid. #1 thing I learned, and once I learned it I got much better: we tend to pull on our hair to make it taut to cut (our attempt to get it even in one fell swoop), but that’s where massive misjudgment of length occurs. Always cut half (or less) of what you THINK you want, and 80% of the time you’re gonna hit bingo first time. Any minor unevenness can be spot fixed

I love Charlotte saying not to hold the straightener so long. Reminds me of every time I've gone to white women to get my hair straightened and I tell them they have to put the heat higher OR they have to hold it longer, and they're like, "No that's too high" or "No, that will take too long" and I'm like, "Alright, won't be coming back to you". The type of hair is extremely important, too. Curls and coils of different races _are_ different. It's best to figure out what works _before_ doing an online tutorial of something potentially complex. 🤣

My doll had a lot less hair the first day than the others. Yikes. Well, on the plus side, it's now a lovely stimming tool - I love the brush cut feel.

I can take that sideburn wax fail one step further. Many years ago, I tried an at home wax kit that claimed it was specifically designed for the face (extra gentle) and intended for upper lip, sideburns, and chin. I prepared it according to the directions, even used the temperature stick that came with to make sure it wasn't too hot, applied on my upper lip, it felt fine, but then when I removed the tab, $%*%&$%^&%^$% because it took parts of my skin with it! Took over a month to completely heal. Luckily no scars, but I have never used anything but tweezers on my face at home since. All hail to the professionals!

And I can now cut it how I want no problem! Fails like these humble us, and teach us it’s okay to screw up. Being able to laugh through it and figure out a better way to do it next time (even if that means leaving certain tasks to the pros) is a great life skill to have. And it will help you bounce back quicker in future when life tries to push you down again

36 years ago, I decided to go redhead. Had to strip the color out of my hair first. Used Effasol. That's not something one should do on one's own hair, as I learned. Anyway--I did strip the color from my hair. Then rinsed in a red base. Had to let it dry. Then I used the hair color itself. (The bathtub looked as if a murder had been committed in it). My hair turned out the color of a stop light--I wore it like that for a couple of weeks. My best friend and every truck driver who saw me absolutely LOVED it, but it was not what I was going for.

Imagine 6 shades from fair to tan and only 2 undertones- pink and yellow. So you eather looked so pale people would think you are sick or you looked like orange. I was the other one and realised it after a year. I still have a tube of that foundation as my souvenier of that period. When I was in cosmetology school, back in the 80s (when perms were in style), there was something called ‘pocket curls’. It was when chemicals caused an entire roller to fall off the head… hair still rolled up in it. One day, while a friend was doing a perm, I ran into the dispensary, grabbed a few of the same sized rollers, and a handful of ‘practice hair’ of the same color. I wrapped those bad boys up and, when both my friend and client were distracted (I pretended to check the rods for my friend so the client wouldn’t grow suspicious), I laid those suckers between the rollers on top of her client’s head. When my friend went to unroll the rods, the planted rollers came off in her hand. She never flinched! Instead, she quickly stuffed them in her uniform pocket (hence the term, ‘pocket curls’… yes, it was a thing) and never said a word. Afterward, I waited ALL DAY to see if she’d say anything. But she never did! I finally fessed up, just to see how she’d react. THAT’S when she freaked out. She never said a word, but was secretly traumatized the entire day. LOL!

I've been using magnetic lashes for about a year and still trying to find some I like. My biggest gripe is having no magnet at the end when I trim the lashes (tried lots of ways of trimming) so the anchors actually sound perfect! Gonna go order me some now! ❤️ love these videos, they make my day! ❤️

That "Shirley Temple" look... gotta let the curls fall, don't brush them out! It'll look like broom straw if you do!

She could comb them out slightly by using a wide-tooth comb or the long, skinny part of a rat tail comb. That's usually what I do when I pin curl my hair and the curls are too tight, like the girl in the video.

The girl that fried her hair should have gotten a pixie cut.( Not a Karen one) They would be able to blend a lit out that way. Lol

Didn’t we all learn as kids that cutting our own bangs or cutting our dolls hair never ends well. Tears, always tears.

One time (and the only time) I tried to wax my own lady bits 🐈🌻 I started with two tiny sections.. I thought okay that was pretty easy, so I then just covered pretty much the whole front mound area in wax. It took a while to harden enough to start pulling. By the time it was ready I got cold feet and was too scared of the pain to pull it off. I tried a few times to pull small parts off, then tried to pull it and just cut the hairs. Tried several times to reheat the wax to wash it off. Long story short, I had to leave it on for 3 days. My body heat caused the wax to stick to my underwear, so I had to cut my knickers off around the wax every day. Then I eventually tried to get it off with nailpolish remover. Sat on the floor in my bathroom with no knickers on. The nailpolish remover went into my 🌻🐈 which was excruciating. I didn't think about before I did it lol. But it was the only thing that actually worked. So I guarded my 🌻🐈 and spent a couple hours removing it with nailpolish remover 🤣😭🤦‍♀️

Glamnetic REALLY does work. I've had mine for about a year now. Still works great and holds strong. I hated lashes before I found these. I got a pair for my mother, too. She adores them. Neither of us were lash people before then.
(honestly, you can even use the cheaper magnetic liner found in the pharmacy, like CVS, and works just as well with their lashes. Just make sure you apply enough coats and let dry before applying)

WAY back in the day, I got a wild hair (pun intended) and tried to give myself highlights. My hair was such a dark brown, some folks actually thought it was black. Well. Seriously should have known better. What I got was very much a Tony the Tiger look. Mercifully, my sweet husband was home at the time. After we stopped laughing, he graciously popped out for a box of color to slap over that tragedy. "Don't try this at home" is a cliché for a reason, kids!

I have always had a deep love of cosmology and I unfortunately was never able to go get trained. Both my sons are on the autism spectrum and going to a salon became out of the question when the little one kicked a stylist. TH-cam videos, Pinterest and the confidence that hair does grow back, it can be done at home. I’ve been doing my boys hair myself for 8 years now and I’d say it’s not half bad. And the joy of boys is that if it’s really that bad then you can buzz them. lol.

MANY years ago, like 1980s/1990 Braun made Gas powered “cordless” curling tongs/irons...
yes you literally had a tube filled with actual FIRE next not your face and you used it to curl your hair.
Now do not get me wrong these things WORKED, they curled amazingly... they burned your hair info in seconds if you got a slight distraction.
But getting ready one night my BF (now Husband) spoke to me as I was curling my fringe(bangs) as I replied I touched the iron to my forehead and f* ck did I scream!!
I had a burn, it was a straight line across my forehead, about half inch top to bottom and 3-4 inches across, it was almost end to end and only stopped because the forehead curves back at the sides.
This burn literally looked like a well done sausage, it seriously was scary how much a burn on human skin looked like a cooked sausage... FYI I no longer ate sausage after that.
But the burn lasted 6 MONTHS! Amazingly I have no scar, but that was f*cking TRAUMATIC!
Because it was a burn, I could not cover it with cosmetics until it healed,so there was no hiding it.
Holy SHIT!!! They still make and sell them!!! WTAF?? Seriously folks, look up Braun Gas curler... you have to refill it like a cigarette lighter, by popping in a new canister of gas. Then like a stove you click a button until it ignites! STUNNED 😳😳😳😳😳

That brings back traumatic memories! My burn was smaller than yours, but it did take forever to heal. The ‘80s were a dark time….

10:05 In this situation you should put toalet paper on a hair straightener and use it carefully. As the wax get warmer, the paper will absorb it.
