I live in a nursing home. I'm bed bound but I have figured a way to fix it in here for me and my friends. So I love this salad and use to eat it at least once a week at home. I sure do miss it. But now that I see your recipe I am going to make it for sure. Thank you.
God Bless you. Ask a friend or family member to make this and other dishes for you. 💜 I would bring my grandma something special every once in a while.
Always loved 0:44 broccoli salad. But I use red onion, dried cranberries reconstituted in hot cranberry juice then patted dry, and pine nuts that are sprinkled on top. Or casbews mixed in are good too. Also use Spicey Italian Dressing folded in JUST before serving. Definitely will try this version, thanks. That last head I chop up and put it with the chopped peeled core and steam it to serve with a cheese sauce, or chop it all small and put it in alfredo noodles, maybe with some chopped cooked/canned chicken. I ALWAYS soak cauliflower or broccoli in cold salted water to get rid of any bugs. Then rinse and pat dry to use. Name of sissors, please. Like that they open to clean.
Love broccoli 🥦 salad! Tom I have a pair of kitchen scissors I bought about 2-3 years ago and I can't believe I didn't have them before then! Mine are Kitchen Aid I love them especially for bacon!
Slightly steaming or microwaving very briefly brings out the sweetness in the broccoli. So good. Sometimes I substitute dried cranberries for the raisins and living in almond country, of course often we sub almonds for the pecans. I'll eat this salad with just about any variation.
That dressing is great on any salad. I love it on a coleslaw mix or just lettuce. This is just a great dish. Everyone watching should try this if you haven’t.
Hello from Ontario Canada. Just wanted to say that I have tried many of your recipes and have loved every one of them. Your Amish white bread has become a staple in my home, and I had never made bread before. So thank you and please keep the great recipes coming. 😊
Love your take on the recipe, I’ll give the raisins a shot. And yes, I wholeheartedly agree that children need to be in the kitchen. My children and grandchildren still love to be in the kitchen when we have get togethers. My favorite memories are with both my grandmothers. The wisdom of these ladies you can’t find in a book… it’s the shared experiences learned. We use the word ‘touch more’ for adding a small amount. Your videos are great and the recipes are delicious! Thank you ❤
I love this exactly the way you make it. However, out of the 4 of us in my home, I am the only one who likes raisins. So, therfore, I sub the raisins with dried cranberries. Still a salad from Heaven! Oh wait! ...It is a salad from "Come Sit at My Table" next best thing to Heaven. Thanks Tom and Melissa!
@@comesitatmytable9044regarding your veggie scraps. I know you all aren’t fans of red onion, but I love it on salads. I use sunflower seeds instead of pecans and add a bit of shredded cheddar cheese-not too much. When short on time or energy, I’ve used the bags of prewashed broccoli, real bacon bits, and Marzetti’s slaw dressing. Homemade is best, though.
Homemade is always best. But sometimes you just need to have a shortcut or two! We do like red onions, but we have to be careful since a little goes a long way!
I learned to make this from an Amish lady (have family in Sugar Creek Ohio which is huge amish area) We use cauliflower in it too, sunflower seeds instead of pecans and red onion instead of white/yellow onion. i was lazy one day and instead of mixing up the dressing I just added everything to the salad. HUGE mistake. I do not make this often because I cannot leave it alone. I will just eat a little dessert bowl but that turns into anytime I have to open fridge door it just a little bowl until I have eaten half of it over a few hours. Love your videos, i make lots of your recipes. I fix bacon in oven, Learned to peel eggs correctly, have made many recipes. Used the peanut butter balls from the 12 days of Christmas for Easter eggs. thank you so much
Your comment has made us smile! Thank you so much for sharing with us that you’ve made some of our recipes. We are so happy to read that! We love reading your recipe for this great salad, too.
Yes!!!! Looks delicious !!! I make this but also add cranberries along with golden raisins and I use purple onion. Sam's Club also sells this in the deli area and it's actually really good if you don't have time to make!!
I agree, a bigger bowl would have been better (men never admit they are wrong, especially on video) 😁😁😁 I love this recipe. I make it all the time. I really appreciate that Melissa always posts the recipe. It helps when I want to add it to my recipe box or share it with a friend.
I've not had it with cherries, but I have with cranberries, and they are a nice variation. Thank you so much for watching our channel and for being at the table with us. We sure do appreciate it.
My 24 year old granddaughter won't eat cooked broccoli but LOVES raw broccoli with Ranch dip. When she was little we watched movies about little cartoon dinosaurs ( the movies were "The Land Before Time". I bought every movie they came out with cause I love them too 😊 . We started watching them when my youngest was a little boy but I bought ones even after he outgrew them )and they ate leaves they called tree stars. I told her that's what broccoli was and she started eating it. She came to love it.
@@comesitatmytable9044Good evening from Georgia, hope all is well. Can you please tell me about how many servings this will make?? Just the two of us!?!
I'm not sure how many servings but it does make a lot so if it's just for two people I'd definitely cut the recipe and not add the dressing until you were ready to eat it each time so the leftovers will be good later.
Yeah, we say, "a hair more" here in Georgia. Ever heard of "hanging in there like a hair in a biscuit"? We were blessed with two girls and a foster daughter. We even had female cats and dogs and our white van was Betty White. My husband was outnumbered, but he used to say that phrase just to gross all of us out. It tickled him...stinker. That salad looks amazing and is one I'll definitely have to try. Thanks, again, for your recipes, your teaching and your charming stories....that's for Melissa too.
14:27 I have been making broccoli salad for a few years now. My family and I love it, but we prefer it made with balsamic vinegar. I add minced red onions, shredded cheddar cheese and sunflower kernels.
I peel and add the stems to my broccoli salad. I also add sunflower seeds instead of pecans. I know some people use slivered almonds. They're all delicious.
Thank you very much for this recipe. I served it at a get together and it received rave comments. I was asked for the recipe and gave you all credit. I shared your TH-cam channel with all.
I have made broccoli salad for years, but today I learned something new…I have never made it with sour cream. I have most of the ingredients but the broccoli so I will be going to get that. Also if I don’t have raisins I put in cranberries, but I agree with you on the raisins. Once again I love watching y’all because you make dishes I would make.
Cutco scissors and knives are pure quality. If you find one on a garage sale, grab it. If you have dull non-Cutco scissors, snip 3 times in aluminum foil and they will be sharper than anything. Don't throw old scissors out.
This is one of my most favorite dishes and I make it often. My recipe doesn't call for sour cream but I think that would make it even more creamy so I may try adding it. That is what is so great about finding new recipes, we find new ways to try old favorites!
Love this salad. Yours looks amazing. I love your channel because everything is so down to earth. Nothing has ingredients that I’ve never heard of. Thank you and Melissa!!
I use sunflower seeds like most others who have posted, but pecans sound really good. I do a screen shot of your recipes and save to my photos. I make more of your recipes than any I see on TH-cam. I have several people I follow, but Tom and Melissa you are my favorite.❤
I agree Melissa, Tom needed a larger bowl for whisking his salad dressing lol. However the recipe does look wonderful. I love broccoli. Y’all are so sweet and work together so well. Thanks so much for all these recipes. God bless
Looks delicious, I would blanch the broccoli in hot water for a few seconds to bring out the lovely green colour before making up the salad. I love your recipes, best wishes for continued success with your channel. Love from Scotland ❤
Love broccoli salad. Here in Texas, we tend to put cheddar cheese in ours as well. A friend of mine told me to use Broccoli Slaw mix when making the salad for just a couple of servings. It is fast and convenient.
Got to love those broccoli salads, this one will be awesome too. Thanks for sharing with us Tom and Melissa. Stay safe and keep up the good videos and wonderful recipes you share with us. Fred.
I use red onion and shredded mozzarella cheese in my broccoli salad. I’ve not had sour cream in the ones I’ve had but eager to try it! You make me so hungry! This just might be my summer item for cookouts. Thank You!
We hope you enjoy it! And we think it would be great for a summer cookout! Thank you so much for watching our channel. We love having you at the table with us.
This is a favorite of our family at every holiday meal. Our older daughter usually makes it. She uses Craisins, red onion and red wine vinegar with the mayo, along with bacon. I think I would like raisins better because they are sweeter than the dried cranberries! Those can sometimes turn your mouth inside out…🤣😫 Thanks for sharing! ❤-Brenda
That is a good-looking salad. I like broccoli but I must say. The bacon looked so good after your wife cooked it. I have never seen bacon look that good cut up like that. That made me hungry, lol. Many thumbs up to your video and recipe. I truly hope you all are doing well. God bless you.
I grow my own broccoli. Even in winter with a hot box. I like to use the leaves for salads. Sometimes let a few bolt for the flowers. They're delicious as well. And I can use the seeds from the flowers to grow more.
I made your broccoli salad recipe and LOVED it. It was way too much and leftovers did NOT get soggy refrigerated. Thx for an addition to my recipe collection.
Our Heinens store has been making this since 1970. It is soo good! They used much smaller pecan pieces . And they use Bermudan onion ( purple onion I keeps moist and fresh tasting up to 3days. After making it put in fridge for 1 hour and stir a few times during that hour. I love the salad! Add a little red delicious apples too
I have several comments. First, you can boil those broccoli stems after cutting the skins off. Boil them in vegetable broth if you have it. This is an excellent base for broccoli soup. Regarding your salad, we have a similar recipe that we have used for years. We have decided to hold out the bacon and pecans until serving, then sprinkle them on each individual serving, especially on Day 2, those lose their crisp and become kind of mushy. We prefer the crisp. I’m sure this is a delicious salad. Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE my CUTCO scissors!!! I was sold on them when the salesman cut a penny up with them!! They ARE WONDERFUL!!! I think they cost around $125.00, but well worth it!!!
Up north we also make this salad but use sunflower seeds ..... It is also good with halved seedless grapes instead of raisins. Grind up the stems for broccoli slaw or add it to the salad, or cook them and puree them to make the base of cream of broccoli soup.....
I love this salad. The recipe I use has sunflower seeds in it. I got my recipe from "Cooking from Quilt Country" by Marcia Adams. Love your recipes and TH-cam channel.
I just saw another you tube channel make broccoli salad but yours looks a lot better sounds a lot better I will try it😊 but I it would be good with cheese added 😊
This salad looks delicious., “just a hair” is also a Texas saying. I often say “)just a smidge”. Thank y’all for all you for all your videos. I aways look forward to the days you are on TH-cam! ❤️
I love your recipes. I have tried a few. There are many more I want to make. I have a recipe to send you to consider making for Subscriber’s Sunday. They are called Morning Glory muffins. They are hearty and just plain wonderful. I will do that soon. Thank you for working together and bringing a fun and quality show. Whenever I see you have a new recipe posting, I watch it last because it’s like dessert to me. Save the best for last! Thank you again, Marianne Martin from Missouri
Great recipe! I love broccoli and so does my "picky-eater" granddaughter. And she really likes bacon too, so this is going to be a favorite. Thanks so much for sharing.
I love the stories that go along with each recipe!!❤🫶🏼🥰🫶🏼❤ Yall both are so sweet! My Momma was the Beta Club Sponsor at Marianna High School for years... and I remember they did cook books too!!🍽☺️ We're definitely trying this as it's different from my Broccoli Salad..🥦🥗 I use broccoli, tomatoes, bacon, mayo & salt/pepper.. this look delish!😋💚 I'm taking so many of yalls recipes with us to the beach in June-July!!🏖🌊🌞🌶 Bless you both!🩷💐🙏🏻
"We up north" make this as well and often sub out the raisins for dried cranberries. So good..give it a try some time. Enjoy your videos. We also put roasted sunflower seeds and forgo the nuts due to nut allergies in family.
Thsnks for sharing y’all’s recipe For broccoli salad ! I love broccoli salad and I know those that have never had it will love it also if they try it! I make a batch and split it in 1/2 because my son has gout and isn’t allowed any red or processed meats or it could throw him into a flare which is very painful , so I leave the bacon out of his but I’ll usually grill a piece of chicken for him to eat with his broccoli salad ! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
Ty for sharing love broccoli and bacon no question going to cut recipe in half just for myself looked so yummy and is expensive at the store know this is way better God Bless. you both❤

I have had this a number of times but have never made it. It is so good. Now that I have the recipe I will make it. We have decoration coming up and it'll be a good dish to share. I eat the stems too. I call the center of the big stem broccoli hearts, like celery hearts. It's the best part in my opinion. You can eat the leaves. Thanks Tom and Melissa for sharing this recipe.
Truly, one of my very favorite dishes to make and to bring places! Your recipe is virtually identical to a recipe that I’ve used for at least 20 years! The only thing different that I do is soak the golden raisins in a bowl of water for a little while… I usually put them in the bowl when I start dealing with the broccoli… Just rehydrates them a little. I so enjoy your videos and the explanations and instructions…and the way that you and Melissa honor one another as God planned it. God bless you both.
I live in a nursing home. I'm bed bound but I have figured a way to fix it in here for me and my friends. So I love this salad and use to eat it at least once a week at home. I sure do miss it. But now that I see your recipe I am going to make it for sure. Thank you.
You probably could replace the bacon with already cooked bacon bits.

That would be pretty! We think that red onions can be stronger and a bit hotter. so I'd advise using caution with the onion before you add too much.

For an alternate dressing try 1 cup mayo, 1/2 cup sugar and 3 Tbs red wine vinegar! This is also good for slaw!
That's the measurements I use. The 1 cup was too sweet for us.
Looks like a great recipe. The broccoli head is actually known as a brocolli “crown.”
This is one of my favorite salads. It is expensive at the store deli, so thanks for the recipe.

Agreed! I always add mine (usually aged cheddar) about an hour or so before serving.
It's great to have the kids help in the kitchen, cooking is a great math and science project.
That broccoli salad looks wonderful. I will have to try it!
This salad looks delicious., “just a hair” is also a Texas saying. I often say “)just a smidge”. Thank y’all for all you for all your videos. I aways look forward to the days you are on TH-cam! ❤️
We sure do appreciate reading that! It's so nice to have you at the table with us. Thank you so much for the kind words that are so encouraging to us.
I say just a tad.
I love morning glory muffins and would love to see your recipe made by Tom!😊
I love broccoli salad
You can also save that hard stem and shred it if you’re going to make a broccoli slaw.
That sounds good!
I love salads this one looks delicious 😋 have a blessed night 🙏
Thank you for the recipes and your time. I love to try the new things I learn here and can't wait to try this! Thanks again!
I love broccoli salad anytime! I also save the stems and peel them and eat them. Delicious!❤

I also have a wonderful broccoli salad recipe. It is delicious. I'm ready for a bowl of it
This is one of my favorite dishes to eat. I also add sunflower seeds to it.
I make this as a “Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad”. One head broccoli, one head cauliflower. I use craisins sometimes too.
I love broccoli salad. Teasing us with summertime goodies!
I love the broccoli stems!
I'm from North Carolina and I've heard just a hair more my whole life lol I love that yall say that and I love yalls channel and watching you two because yall are so sweet ❤
THANKS AGAIN TOM & MELISSA FOR ANOTHER GREAT RECIPE . MY HUSBAND & I JUST "LOVE" THE SOUTHERN BACON FRYED CABBAGE Y'ALL PUT OUT . AGAIN THANKS & GOD BLESS YOU BOTH VERY MUCH . (TAMMY FROM CALIFORNIA) ❤❤❤
I will definitely be making this salad. Looks so good. I have made several of the recipes that you have made and have not been disappointed yet!
I love this recipe❤️. Good stuff
