Something about all of Tchaikovsky’s work has an underlying abyss of sadness: surely, the crescendoes and upward flourishes impart a sense of flying, but just below you is the dark.

Top comment says that all of Tchaikovsky’s work has an underlying abyss of sadness... I do not feel that sentiment in this one. I feel only hope, triumph and optimism in this tune. Perhaps a bit of a lower feeling at around the two minute mark, but I would not describe it as "sad". Instead it feels like a pause or a moment of recollection before it once again rises.

Fills me with an unexplainable feeling, a childlike wonder, a sense of finality, contentedness, like a lost, injured soul wandering the world only to finally find what they were looking for the entire time. Coming to terms with everything, a sad, yet relieving kind of peace and acceptance.
The picture. And the music and everything, it's a mixture of sorrows and joys. It reminds me of moments of sadness, joy, depression, childhood and adolescence. All of them. This is a combination of art.
I think that is because nowdays the music is more active and fast and people get bored because they are used to hear a lot of quick music, sure it's a shame that this taste in music is more strange, but nothing in the history of humanity has remained untouched by the pass of time, new times arrive and some things vannish or are left to forget, sad but true.
I grew up listening to Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Bizet, Shostakovich, Gershwin.... many more because my father loved it all. I took it for granted that his sound system had a huge part why it sounded so good. He is no longer here, about a year now.... I saved every CD of his. Took his sound system. Sat next to it sad because I've never hooked anything up like this before. I used all his cords, he labels everything. I was looking for the left speaker cord and almost gave up... I had a sense and an idea , " what if the cord you're looking for isnt black like right speaker?" I started trying all the cords not just black... he somehow helped me hook up his sound system and everyday I play his fav music. So emotional, so sad I never loved this music while he was still alive. I sit and cry my eyes out but I spend time with him this way. Tchaikovsky was his fav... he has the most CDs from this composer.

Ah, Tchaikovsky, the master of creating music that is... entirely necessary for everyone who already has their hands full with romantic angst! "Pas de Deux"-what a triumph of subtlety, a piece that, in all its restraint, only hints at its desire to make audiences feel things. One can’t help but admire how he manages to stretch that delicate emotion across such a brief, fleeting 10-minute symphony, a true lesson in moderation. It’s as though Tchaikovsky sat down and thought, “How can I write something just understated enough to make people forget all their worries... or, conversely, be swept into a whirl of existential dread?” With his meticulous choice of swelling strings, gentle harps, and muted horns, it’s just the right level of quiet introspection needed in a ballet piece meant to reflect, oh, perhaps only every unspoken longing of the human soul.
I went to see the nutcracker in NYC and thing that struck me the most was how fantastic the music was !!!! The Orchestra playing Tchaikovsky was perfection.

Harp and strings interweave with beautiful melodic lines, oboe comes in, rising and falling of music lines, brass comes in with climatic parts, all instruments are mixed together like a beautiful bouquet of flowers, music softens and scored piece ends with a surprising ending! Love the picture of the lady waiting on the bank by the riverside for her love to come to shore in his boat.

It's like the universe and all its love, sadness and hope are poured into this music. It's so divine, magical, passionate, and inspiring. It makes me cry and smile at the same time...
In this age of cacophony and chaos this tune brings peace to my soul.
What an amazing song. ❤
Such passion!!!!❤❤❤❤
La pintura 😊 desata un montón de emociones
Incredible version, one of Tchaikovsky's most beautiful compositions. Good job supporting good music. I speak here from Brazil.
