I was immediately touched by this piece, and did some research on its history. It was dedicated to Emma Genton, governess to a family he often visited. She was infatuated with him and wrote him roughly 200 letters; he was friendly with her but didn’t share her affections. The mixed emotions are very palpable-love with a hint of sadness.

Not all men are worthy of reverence as not all women are worthy of affection because there are truths and virtues above mere existence. I am not concerned with the failings of character or the changing desires of other men and women which are hedonists/physicalists because they take themselves to the logical ends of their own world views. I feel this is like someone's watching their impossible love, unforgettable. The moments where the piece becomes faster is like the imagination of dancing with their platonic love, free, corresponded. The main part of the rhythm sounds like the sadness of knowing that what they're thinking is just so forbidden, maniac and improbable. But still, you need to love the person or else your life becomes senseless.
    Idk, I felt that.

Whenever I listen to this, all I can picture is a beautifully haunting dance shared between two young people in love, who know their love is forbidden and so they only have this moment, on the dance floor, in a span of minutes, to imagine what could be between them. Once the dance is over, so is their love story, for this is the only moment they are allowed to even look at one another. As such, their dance becomes so much more than just a series of movements, it becomes like a silently expressed love story between the two of them.

I don't think "sad" would be the word for this. Melancholy perhaps, but more like nostalgic or wistful. But if course the beauty of art and music in particular is that it is whatever you see or hear it as. If it makes you feel sad, that is legitimate. If it makes you think of longing or passion, you aren't wrong. Don't listen to experts who want to define everything like it is science.

That is not true. You just don't listen to it, but there's definetly an active "classical" music scene, the problem is that this kind of composition is not well considered amongst conservatories because it's too consensual ... and that's the sad part!

наверху отличный коммент к твоим словам: It feels like depression. Occasional, fleeting moments of upbeat melodies feel more like episodes of painfully self-aware mania among a constant bedrock of fear, and pain. From start to finish the song feels like a lifelong death throw. A beautiful dance of madness.
