Sophia played Chopin's Opus 9 No 2 in the ballroom of the Metropol Hotel in Moscow, much to the Count's amazement who was not aware Sophia could play the piano at all, and she played with such feeling, as if she had been with Chopin as he wrote it. (From Amor Towles book, "A Gentleman In Moscow.")
But what does this feeling say about Sophia? I presume such feelings rose upon the loss of her parents due to Soviet cruelty and the tumultuous times she was living in... regardless, the Count appeared to her like an angel, in extraordinary salvation.
i've been learning the Nocturne Op 9 No 2 since August, of course i did a lot of pauses, and though about giving up several times, but now i know how to play almost 90% of the music, and now looking foward into playing in a recital
22 year old drum and bass loving nephew stuck his head into my room. Then on to his Mum's "He's playing the most beautiful music in there." Dawn of civilisation. (Not that drum & bass is without merit.)
