    Sold sold sold. Smaller is better for me and since I cram that saw in a packout ammo can with a jigsaw and osslating tool I'll take all the space i can get. Realistically 99 isn't horrible for fuel anything and we all know old tools turn into home beaters, backup or gifted to people/employees that need them. The pastic guard is kinda cheap but it's one of thoes things plastic chrome or real chrome both are functional. I always buy the blades thay don't require the spacers diablo brand as well. They only sell one with spacers in stores so I have to order the true arbor ones but it really does help the slipping and stalling or wobble. As always thanks!

      Yeah I normally order my blades too… I had to get these in store so I didn’t have to weight.

    • @Jay-sg2ww
      @Jay-sg2ww 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Disagree somewhat. The did upgrade to the new jig saw , its much better than the old one. I upgraded to the new oscillating tool also its is much better then the prior. But yes some other tools are not that big of an upgrade. For the few times a month I use a circular saw I doubt I'll upgrade. I'm not upgrading my rotary tool for the new brushless rotary tool. Not updating my Gen 2 Fuel drill and impact for Gen 3.
      I guess the two examples above though they went from only making a regular M12 model to Fuel models. So maybe that is the big jump.

    • @MORGANSMaintenance
      @MORGANSMaintenance  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Jay-sg2ww some are big jumps. (Anything from Non-Fuel to Fuel is worth the upgrade for the motor usually- my opinion) I was meaning that some of the things like a rafter hook shouldn’t have to be an upgrade on a saw. It’s kinda a standard thing that should have been on the original.
      This one was worth the update to me because I use it a lot. Now my other one has become a thin metal demo saw. I use it to cut up metal doors to throw them away… so I was able to gain a new tool and repurpose an old one.

    • @Jay-sg2ww
      @Jay-sg2ww 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MORGANSMaintenance Agreed. Also if you use these tools for a living, like yourself, than the extra features def make a difference even if the power is a small upgrade. Myself as a DIY homeowner I'll deal with no rafter hook, no dust collection, and an extra pound. Understood. I dont blame you. The hub is the same on both and both should use a lock ring. The metal one will have a plastic shim whereas the plastic one doesn’t. I got the same price ($99) this weekend (June 22, 2024) which is a great deal. The metal lower guard on the earlier version can be installed as a direct replacement on the new version. My only option had been to just go check in person and with something like 10 home depots within 30 miles that didn't seem worth it. The store right next to my house showed $160 online vs $99 a few miles away. Glad constantly checking is over. One other difference is the max cut depth is a little over 1/4" deeper on the new one. I have a small Ryobi circular that couldn't cut 2x so the new M12 being 1.9" should be pretty safe. I'm doing some demo in my yard and had moved my 10" miter outside but this should be much easier. There are a few more videos that came out for this saw today and they put the blade that’s in the box on them. I can see the difference of their saw cutting verses mine with the Diablo blade on it.
      My has always worked pretty well unless it was really wet pressure treated. I generally cut pine 2x4’s and it worked really great for that.
      I used this saw quite a bit today and it seemed to have more speed/power. I’m not sure how much more.
      I didn’t really want to try and show that too much because I’ve used my old one a bunch, so any comparison I wouldn’t feel like would be fair in a side by side just due to wear/tear. It is better for sure, but not like “wow” better.

    The first video I’ve seen if this. Seems better than the last model

      I feel like it is better all around. For $99 it’s worth the upgrade if you own the older model.. at full price, just depends on how much you use it.

    I framed my whole basement with the older version, the new one looked like it was a bit shorter and not as wide, any info on that?

    • @MORGANSMaintenance
      @MORGANSMaintenance  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is it smaller based on the dimensions. I couldn’t tell where they measured it at, and hard to measure the shape it is.
      It is skinnier for sure. Length and height not much different.

      @@MattHmm-rq6dn yeah it would have been hard for me to pay $160 with owning the other one already. $99 is a no brainer IMO.
      I figure after the $99 it will be full price with a free battery or something. My Depo has some, but they aren’t on the shelves, they are all up in the top not out to buy yet.

    Just curious, if you're using it for 2x4's why don't you use a 6 and a half or a 7 and a quarter??

    • @MORGANSMaintenance

      This saw weighs so much less than those. Over the course of a day it adds up using a heavy saw. Especially since my 7-1/4 is the Rear handle.
      I also don’t like the side the blade is on a 7-1/4 saw, that’s why I have the Rear Handle over a regular one. I like the left side blade

      This saw really is tiny and light even the old one. Humans love the smallest tool that gets the job done reasonably. What I don't get is the price of blades cheapest to most expensive. 7 1/4, 10in, 6.5, 5 3/8s/8 1/4 then 12 that seems fair!

      @MattHmm-rq6dn I’ve thought the same thing on blades.

  • @OnusBones

    We have the One+ circular saw. That means we probably don't need this one, even though it does look nice. I will check the heft on it though.

      I haven’t used a Ryobi saw, but I do have some other tools. They usually perform well. This one and the older model is the first “small” saw I’ve ever liked. Any other 5” saw either wouldn’t cut through a 2x4 in one pass, or it was just weak altogether.

    • @OnusBones
      @OnusBones 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MORGANSMaintenance I liked how well that Fuel cut through those 2x8s. I recall some binding if I didn't take it easy on the 2x6s I used for our back deck.

    • @MORGANSMaintenance
      @MORGANSMaintenance  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OnusBones it is really powerful for how small it is. It’s not my Rear Handle M18 which will cut about anything… but it doesn’t weigh that much either 😂

    • @MattHmm-rq6dn
      @MattHmm-rq6dn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not long ago I was helping a relative with a deck and we used that brushed ryobi saw and given enough patience it wl get the job done. The hard part is when you expect more from tools and get used to it. Then it's hard to go back. I too have gotten use to powerful tools and the m12 fuel saw was about as acceptable as I wanted to go with a ho battery. If I get really hungry for power the flexvolt saws are silly powerful. Gang cutting 4 sheets at once as fast as you can go has it advantages . They have gotten so powerful that it's easly as powerful as corded mag 77s.

    • @MattHmm-rq6dn
      @MattHmm-rq6dn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely have to decide if it's worth it and you have a need for a new saw. Not all of us buy new tools for the sake of our addiction. There is a ton on the ryobi platform I use personally and would recommend for sure. My relative had a 9ah battery on that 5 3/8 brushed ryobi and it felt like a brick reminiscent of my flexvolt. I think expectations and balance for budgets is important. When all else fails put it on the Christmas list 😆.
