  • Happy New Year everyone! Today Tom is going to take a closer look at some SS daggers, and hopefully pass on some information useful to both new and old militaria collectors alike.
    Future installments of the Hobby Journal will also target specific types of daggers; Army, Naval, RLB and RAD, Government Official's & Diplomatic, and much more.
    We hope you enjoy them, and, as always, thanks for watching!

    Watching and crying. I was an idiot back in my teens, this didnt mean much to me so I borrowed my dagger and never got it back. And why it means so much to me now? My grandfather was fighting in Stalingrad against communism as a part of Croatian 369th legion along Germans.
    He apparently saved a life of a guy and he gave him his dagger. That was told to me by my grandfather. And he gave this to me and a medal from Stalingrad its called Lipov list, if Im correct that would be Willows leaf in english.
    He also left me the house because he sad Im he only croat in the family, that my father and his son was Yugoslav, cause he dd love Tito.
    He teached me Croatian songys etc, loved him so much.
    Now I cant come even close to afford one, and Id love, LOVE to have it, as a replacement for that one I lost thirty years ago.
    Grandfather would also tell me that I will need to fight same enemy as he did. And man was he close, I dodged the war by a little, it was from ninety one to ninety five and I was born in ninety eighty.. So I was too young.
    And it was same enemy as he had in WWII
    I hope I will be able to afford one of these ss daggers one day.
    Sorry grandpa, you know I love you.

    Mr. Whittmann you're a man of exceptionally fine taste indeed. The culmination of a lifetime of work and it shows. you'd be hardpressed to upgrade from there if even possible, that is I mean.. but I'm sure you already know that! If you haven't already done a book documenting these daggers and the difference between the variations from the rare and the even rarer and then finally to the extremely ultra rare to be sure, then please do so! But don't get me wrong, thank you for doing this video, even if it's just a brief look at these, but I'm sure I speak for many others who would love to look at each one of those in more depth. ( .. Also people like me with ADD are a little slow and I like to look at pictures..)
    Thank you,

    I was stationed in Fulda Germany back in the 70s and back in those days we had a chance to do a lot of window shopping and old souvenirs such as these knives were not uncommon at the time. I had a chance to buy one for $20 that was lying in a shop window it had the SS insignia inlaid in pearl on the handle I haven't seen one like it sense. Every time I think about not purchasing that knife for $20 I could just kick myself. It's been so many years ago I can't remember exactly for the lightning bolts were located on the knife itself but I remember it was in pristine condition.

The blade condition is a 9.5 and the scabbard is a 9.5 condition also. Etched on the blade is Meine Ehre Heibt Treue. ( hope i deciphered that correctly ) no number on the dagger anywhere other than the vendor number. Can you shed some light on this for me please? Thanks for you video. Bill in Northwest Arkansas.

    My question for Mr. WITTMANN is do you know if the Germans made daggers late into the war when they were losing?? Interesting to know!!

    • @WittmannAntiqueMilitaria
      @WittmannAntiqueMilitaria  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They did... or at least they did until the factories started turning into piles of rubble. Late war pieces are usually easy to pick out as they are typically of lower quality and exhibit various kinds of cost cutting measures in their construction.

    • @TheSpritz0
      @TheSpritz0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WittmannAntiqueMilitaria Thank you Sir for answering, it is a fascinating subject- even to the fact Himmler decreed that the SS-Man had the right to use the dagger if their "Honor" was violated. From the Wikipedia page on SS-Daggers (SS-Ehrendolch) "According to Himmler, every SS member was obliged to use the dagger against anyone who had violated the honour of the SS or offended the honour or the family of the SS member". In November 1935, Himmler issued a decree stating that "every SS man has the right and duty to defend his honour with the weapon."

    So, there's a story that when Hess crashed in Scotland, he was taken to a police station and my grandfather was on duty and somehow came by his dagger, supposedly. There was even an article in one of the papers years ago (which I have). I doubt it to be true as Hess was SS and the dagger that I have is not the SS one. Paint is completely worn from the holder but some traces of black on it, so I guesss I will never know the truth?

    It's weird to me, a cat owner, how he lets his cat walk arround thousands of dollars of ss daggers, I don't let mine walk arround my desk because they destroy all my work.

    Good collection there.
    But you could have presented the daggers with the writing the right way up not upside down.
    The filming left alot be desired, alot of out of focus shots too.
    Had to stop watching half way through as was infuriating.
