I think the hidden ending “don’t fear the reaper” is probably the canon one but I do think there’s a “happy” ending, that being the star ending with the aldecaldos, there’s a big emphasis on the tarot throughout the game and it corrctly predicts V's story, albeit vaguely, when you go with the star ending, when reading Vs tarot cards, misty mentions that she foresees a positive outlook and happy life ahead of V, I doubt that’s accidental, whoever Panam knew must have been able to help V somehow, maybe it’s copium or whatever but it’s a bit too much coincidence for it to be an accident, plus its the only ending where V permanently leaves night city which I think also has some significance

Personally I think Don't Fear the Reaper into Temperance is the perfect ending for Johnny and V. It's important to note V died in that junkyard, of not for the relic it would have been the end of the line, from that point of view the body really doesn't *belong* to V. Johnny an ass at first helps V to not only avenge Jackie but achieve their dream of being a NC Legend and in doing so develops a lot as a person. From that perspective V gets a second chance to live out their dream and Johnny after becoming a better person gets his revenge on Arasaka and a second chance at life now that he's become a better man.

Except it’s not Johnny and he’s not getting a second chance at anything, the relic is just an AI with johnnys memory and personality, it’s not actually him, he is and always will be an AI and when the body dies, he’ll go to the black wall again anyway, it’s called soul killer for a reason, whether you think there’s actual souls or an actual afterlife in cyberpunk or not, even the people who invented the tech know that the human is already dead, even if their memories have been stored on an engram

@@benjaminhewitt2376 That is a philosophical debate that certain quests in the game tackle I but believe ai or not Johnny is still a person. He demonstrates real emotions and the capability to grow through empathetic responses. Also where are you getting that blackwall take from? I do not recall seeing anything about what happens to an engram after a host body died. Also the relic is not AI, it saves the neurons of a brain, then reconstructs those neurons in a host body (or in the case of V overwrites a corpse)

@@TheMaskedNinja_ what are you talking about? you think an engram somehow extracts the neurons from someones brain? it just, to put is simply, downloads the data... it also doesnt "re-create" the engrams neurons in the host, it just rewires the hosts brain to an extreme extent, the brain changing and forming new synapses and ways of thinking is something that happens on the daily in real life, the engram just does that in basically an incredibly short time and to a massive extent, by the very definition the engram is an AI, maybe not in the traditional sense but its an artificially reconstructed consciousness, basically the exact definition of an AI, it doesnt matter if its based off a real person or not, and again, by the very definition and AI is intelligent, a true AI has the ability to grow, learn and change. Johnny is dead and gone, the engram is not Johnny, its something else, even the engram admits this as the story goes on, alt even backs him up by explicitly stating that the real alt died and she was now something different. the whole point of the engram story and the devil ending is that the pseudo immortality offered by soulkiller is worse than death because what comes back is not the person that left. The game treats Johnny and Yorinobu like people that have come back to life and I understand why but the game make a point of showing, especially through Johnny that soulkiller is not a second chance at life, the icing on top of this point comes if you choose to send Jackies body to Vic and then take the devil ending, you run into his engram later and its one of the worst moments in the entire game. if you think people have souls in cyberpunk its a bit easier to accept but even if you dont, the human that was copied is dead and gone and nothing can ever bring them back, you can recreate them using technology but its not the same in the end. and I'm not saying that this makes the constructs worthless or incapable of thought, feeling or growth, they are obviously able to do all of that and theyre most definitely a "person" in their own way, they're just not the same person who died.
there is nothing about what happens to an engram after the host body dies though, that was just inference on my part, we know that when soulkiller was used on alt she became an AI and the consciousness was basically stores in cyberspace, and engram obviously cant live without their body in the real world so I assume their choices are either die with the body or follow alts example and go back into cyberspace and Johnnys engram doesnt seem like the type that would give up a chance to go back to alt, seeing as he practically begs you to let him go at the end of the game

@@TheMaskedNinja_ what are you talking about? you think soulkiller somehow takes neurons out of someones head and stores them? thats not at all how it works, for lack of a better term, it "downloads" the contents of someones brain into digital format, when it gets inserted into someone it doesnt create new neurons from the old persons cells or anything, it just starts re-wiring the brain which is something that happens to everyone on a daily basis, your brain is constantly creating new synapses and neural pathways, the engram just forces this to occur to a drastic extent and in an incredibly short amount of time, not to mention, in case youve forgotten, an engram isnt meant to be put into a persons head at all, its meant to be placed into a clone or cybernetic body with similar DNA, thats the whole problem with Johnny, the only reason it works for Saburo is because Yorinobu is his son and has extremely similar DNA.
and engram is the literal definition of AI, its an artificially reconstructed intelligence based off the memories of a dead person. its a bit unorthodox of course but its still the exact definition of an AI. I never said an AI couldnt learn and grow, again by definition thats exactly what they CAN do, but the AI isnt the person that was killed, its just a copy, thats the whole point of the engram story and the devil ending, Johnny is constantly saying that soulkiller is worse than death and alt backs him up specifically saying that the real alt is dead and her engram is something different, Johnny doesnt explicitly say this to my knowledge but he heavily implies it, plus with the devil ending its basically spelled out by V themselves if you didnt save takemura. point is, whether you think theres souls in cyberpunk or not, when soulkiller copies someones memories and killes them, the person is gone and what comes back is something different, I know the game makes it seem like a sort of coming back to life but its not, and the game does explicitly say this several times over its course. if you really want to see for yourself, do a game where you send Jackies body to Vic and then choose the devil ending, you'll run into his engram and its one of the worst moments in the entire game. the person that dies has their "soul killed" the copy is only an imitation, a good imitation but an imitation nonetheless.
as for what happens when a construct dies, there is no concrete evidence, thats mostly just inference on my part, we know constructs can safely live in cyberspace beyond the blackwall thanks to alt so when V's body is ready to die, I assume Johnny's engram would have 2 options, either die in the body or go into cyberspace to be with alt, I assume hed chose the latter
