I always thought kimono are like robe you put on top but now i am just amazed how many steps it actually takes to wear it. It looks stunning both the dress.
I used to watch my sobo put on her kimono. She was traditional always wore kimoni when she went out in public. At home when cleaning she would sometimes wear pants and a shirt but very rarely. Sometimes when my girls want to put on their yukata or kimono having watched sobo helped a lot. Thank you for this video it reminded me of a few things that I have forgotten.
I wish I had everything needed to wear my kimono. Its an awase kimono made of cotton. I found it in a thrift store for $2, but was never able to find the other parts to properly wear it. I improvise and it kinda works...
I'm in a similar situation with the wool men's kimono and Nagoya obi that I found at a second-hand store. I decided to wear them to an anime club meeting one time and did some research on how to wear them ( which is how I found out it was a men's kimono,) and wound up wearing a turtleneck and leggings under it to protect it from skin oil, and decided to go for an index finger length fold like in the video with a random peice of cord I had lying around. This did result in the hem being waaay higher than ankle or floor length since men's kimonos don't have extra length for folding, but I thought it looked nicer with the obi that way, and it made it easier to run in (which I needed to do to be on time to one of my classes.) The whole outfit was basically a pile of kimom blasphemy, but it wasn't for a formal event or anything, so it worked. Took me ages to get the tie the obi right though...
Thank you Shogo ,Harumi and Tomoko!! Harumi and Tomoko looked stunning and Harumi's explanation of the different ranks made perfect sense. As a person from the UK I would not wear a tee shirt to a wedding or a nice restaurant.
I know people say this a lot and it's lost it's meaning, but I legit stopped washing dishes to better watch this video as soon as I saw it. I dropped everything and came as soon as I heard.

I lived in Japan for awhile ...the only time I had a super beautiful Kimono was as a child...it was so beautiful with super long sleeves...later as an adult when I returned to Japan I only had Yukatas...but I was able to pick out stunning Yakata material that was gray with little printed arrows in the material and a pink obi to go with it...
Totally informative and fascinating in so many ways! Please do a video about the traditional clothing worn by rural people and average Japanese people in the past?
Im excited! I got a vintage Yukata to wear to the Japanese festival in September. I'm wanting to learn how to wear it properly to honor such an amazing culture.
I really like this video, is right on point, giving the right amount of information in a clear manner so anyone can understand and follow easily. Great job 👏
This video Is sooo interesting! I'm trying to create miniature kimono for my dolls collection and I want it to be realistic, I'm learning a lot from this video and the one where you are waiting the male yukata!
I really like drawing Kimono, so this is literally the best video to learn the differences and how to properly draw them, they're so pretty! I really want to try a kimono someday.
Thank you for all the wonderful videos you make! I love learning about different cultures and Japan is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE!!! The Clothing is so beautiful!! I always wondered how the puffy, wide belt in the back was tied. I thought it required two people. Does the Kimono and the Yukata have pockets inside the sleeves? Or is it a trick they use in the movies? I LOVE the wide variety of subjects you choose to make your video's. Learning new Vocabulary, Apartment Life ( especially the Squat Toilet), with my balance being so bad, I would have fallen in so many times that I wouldn't need a shower, the Rules of Society, Everyday Living, the Rules of using Chopsticks, Meals, BENTO BOXES and RAMEN NOODLES!!!!!!!!! (Mmmm!!!!) There's just so much to love. I have a question for you. I play "Animal Crossing" on Nintendo Switch and was given a "Kotatsu," what is it and is it still used today? I just want to give you and TH-cam a huge thanks for allowing me to travel and experience new cultures without leaving my home. Bless you all.

I want to wear a yukata so bad. (A kimono too but i understand its much more difficult and i would prolly enjoy yukata) but in the us there are quite a few people who think if ur not Japanese u cant wear or do mostly anything thats feom japan (or any other culture u arent.) Im honestly going to try and get one at some point and try my best to wear it properly. Love these videos and i hope ur well
Hi, Shogo-san, thanks for the interesting video. I have a few questions though 1. If you can wear yukata in kimono style, does it still count on the same level of "formalness" as an average yukata or could it be interchangable with Tsumugi/Momen? 2. How can you tell the difference between Hitoe and Yukata on first sight? Aside from yukata being from thinner materials, could you distinguish them from patterns, colours or something else entirely? Thank you! :)
you can increase visual ranking but it is still yukata based on the material it is made out of, usually its never silk! even cotton komon may have differences such as how thin it is or the sleeves. even if the other ranked kimonos are made of silk, you would tell the difference through the pattern! komon have simple patterns that repeat throughout the kimono. iromuji is kimono with no pattern. tsukesage is light patterns typically on the bottom of the komono and on the sleeves. homongi has more ornate patterns that dont repeat. furisode the biggest difference is that the sleeves are way longer. wedding wear kimono is totally different too and have a thick lining at the bottom so it can be draped on the floor. there are many visual and foundational differences between the types of kimono to be able to tell them apart, but in the end its easiest to tell thru pattern and materials 😊
I love your videos so much. I have already learned so much and I only subscribed to your channel on sunday. Please keep up the fantastic work. Also really like the "Table of Contents" and "Summaries" you put into your videos! They are really helpful.
Please shogo i beg you do a video explaining the full steps of how to preform a traditional tea ceremony i just got tested positive and that would really help.
I'm sorry, could you one day tell more about this Taisho-era way of dressing, how they wore this yukata/kimono with hakama? And can it be worn today like this too or would it be seen like wearing a 19th century gown while doing shopping?
If you haven't already done this idea could you please make a video out of it? So my questions are why and how did samurai's exist, and why don't they exist anymore? (Sorry for bad English)

The long sleeved Kimono, furisode, are only worn by young, unmarried girls.
Thank you a lot for this video! Now I understand a little bit more traditional clothes of Japan!
I've always been curious about the different types of kimono and all procedures to wear them and this video explains everything so well!
Super fun and informative, a delightful combo 💚
22:00 - That's what a happy Japanese looks like, he's in "raspberry")))
Thank you.
With this video, I absolutely got back my desire of owning and wearing a yukata + geta + cute obi!
I really like this video, is right on point, giving the right amount of information in a clear manner so anyone can understand and follow easily. Great job 👏
Excellent presentation! I really enjoy learning more and more about everything Japanese .
This video Is sooo interesting! I'm trying to create miniature kimono for my dolls collection and I want it to be realistic, I'm learning a lot from this video and the one where you are waiting the male yukata!
Thank you, I think yukata looks more comfortable, but kimono looks fancier to go out in
I really like drawing Kimono, so this is literally the best video to learn the differences and how to properly draw them, they're so pretty! I really want to try a kimono someday.
Harumi and Tomoko are both so beautiful
🌸This video is soo perfect, cuz it help a lot to understand the difference between one and other.🌸
So relaxing to watch ♥
I do cosplay, and one of the characters I want to dress up as wears a Yukata. These videos are very helpful, thank you so much!
Thank you for this information packed and practical video with tons of details and wonderful illustrations with Texas :)
This information is worth gold!
........ I want both. My inner 10 year old is screaming. Shes so excited. These are stunning and so cool in how they are worn. I love it so much.
I really like that Taisho era style of wearing the yukata with hakama.

Thank you very much to Shogo-san, Harumi-san & Tomoko-san, and to the photographers.
This was fascinating.
Love & respect from Ames, Iowa, U.S.A.
Both are lovely and explain well. Yukata and Kimono it's like a language on its own, amazing and beautiful 😍❤.
This video is so informative and helpful and the ‘’Tanjiro Refrence‘’was funny for some reason🌺🌺🌺
Artists are thanking you for this video
Great video as always. A men's version of this would be great. I know standalone video might be hard, but would be interesting.
Wonderful! 💖 Beautiful! 🌟🌟 Excellent 😀🥀 Thank You!!!
Love these videos and i hope ur well
thank you so much, it was very interesting. Please make same video for men's clothes
I like these videos for learning about the culture of distant lands
Hi, Shogo-san, thanks for the interesting video. I have a few questions though
Thank you! :)
That's some kitsuke aficiando level of questioning! I'm here for the answers too.
you can increase visual ranking but it is still yukata based on the material it is made out of, usually its never silk! even cotton komon may have differences such as how thin it is or the sleeves. even if the other ranked kimonos are made of silk, you would tell the difference through the pattern!
komon have simple patterns that repeat throughout the kimono. iromuji is kimono with no pattern. tsukesage is light patterns typically on the bottom of the komono and on the sleeves. homongi has more ornate patterns that dont repeat. furisode the biggest difference is that the sleeves are way longer. wedding wear kimono is totally different too and have a thick lining at the bottom so it can be draped on the floor. there are many visual and foundational differences between the types of kimono to be able to tell them apart, but in the end its easiest to tell thru pattern and materials 😊
if just day to day, wearing yukata in a more formal style has no issues and is appropriate for outings or casual events😊
@@leeda-xl2ju Thanks for interesting answer!
Can you make a video about traditional Japanese art please🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I love your videos so much. I have already learned so much and I only subscribed to your channel on sunday. Please keep up the fantastic work. Also really like the "Table of Contents" and "Summaries" you put into your videos! They are really helpful.
Very enlightening, would like to same thing for men.
This is just memorizing to watch !(:
i was lost but i enjoyed it none the less. i like the arrow feathers of the yukata most.
I’m sorry, explaining about kimono culture is very complicated😥
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!!
Very nice video, ありがとうございます for sharing. I wish おくさん could make more video's about dressing kimono/tying different 帯結び for us 😊
Harumi is bomb, Shogo-kun! Her subtleties are exquisite! Hai! 🇺🇸🤝🇯🇵🇨🇳
Please shogo i beg you do a video explaining the full steps of how to preform a traditional tea ceremony i just got tested positive and that would really help.
I too think that would be a great video!
Beautiful garments! 👍
That was great. Thank you very much.
