Pokemon Cries Comparison: Stadium 1+2 VS Pokemon R/B,G/S

- In the Pokemon Stadium games, they attempted to recreate the cry of each pokemon in a more organic/realistic way. I think for many of them, they succeeded so I think it's very interesting to compare the cries.
There was a video that did this for pokemon stadium 1, but I wasn't satisfied with the quality so I made my own, and added gen 2. - เกม
The stadium cries are so realistic in a way. I love them.
I feel like the bird and horse cries are the most realistic in stadium
If only Gen 6 onwards used them
I want to see somebody make Stadium 1&2 cries for Pokémon Gen 3 and beyond. Maybe include the Mega Evolution & Gigantamax cries as well.
yea but some of them scare me like machamp's
Also, legendary and underrated.
The bird pokemon actually sounding like birds is amazing. Stadium is a gem.
Chikorita it's a bird-like sound
I love the Spearow line and Hoothoot line cries, but my favorite is the Skarmory cry
notice others like Snubull, Granbull, and the Mareep line. with Mareep sounding like a little sheep or a lamb, Flaffee is the same way but only bigger, and Amfaross is more of a mature sheep now. then Snubull and Granbull as dogs. you can really hear their growls. the one I didn’t agree with much is Larveytar, that’s more of a bunny rabbit. I would’ve thought it got a smaller cry.
I am blown away by the effort a team must have gone to to give each and every Pokemon a cry that not only closely resembles their low quality electronic cries, but includes references to their type, concept and the animal they might resemble in addition to a sense of personality. It's crazy to me that all this work will never really be truly recognised or appreciated.
It is recognized and appreciated. Look at the comments of these videos.
@@Mac14329 The game sold to roughly 5 and a half million people. This video only has about 40 comments... I would still say that it's not recognised or appreciated on the scale at which the effort was made.
@@azjeffs Not just this video. I also mean on every other video that has these sounds. And 5 1/2 million people is still a lot.
They ARE recognized, and they ARE appreciated.
Actual crocodile bellow for Fera
Completely agree, love how they left in the original 8-bit cries but at a lower volume, then overlayed them with their more realistic and natural counterpart cries. The muffled sound effects generated by the N64 also give it that unique charm! I’d take these cries over the new ones anyday. 🙌
It's insane how they're both realistic AND true to the originals they are. It's a really hard balance to get. I remembered all of these separately but hearing them back to back is a whole other experience. These are also so much better than the updates XY gave older mons' cries with much more advanced tech.
These cries were ahead if their time!
This is yet another example of how better the Pokemon franchise would be if given to a competent developer
@@joaopaulocostalima4092 Or if more competent people were at The Pokemon Company and Game Freak.
@@jorgezaldivar3113 I'd also say the problem involves their schedule for releasing games and listen to investors more then the customers
@@narutogen13 Yeah! That, too.
I like how out of all of them, Magnemite and Magneton are seemingly the only ones that they DIDN'T change since they're already robotic
Wish it was the same for Porygon since it's an artificial life form as well......
the only slight difference is its little buzz it has in the background, and, for its evolution, you can kinda hear more tiny metallics in there.
Voltorb and Electrode sound basically the same too, it just has a weird muffle filter on top of the cry
This was amazing. I kinda wish that the cries for Gen 6 onward did the more realistic approach that Stadium did. The "remastered" cries that they did instead are alright, but still.
Same here
There’s a few “remastered” cries I prefer over these ones, like Ho-Oh, but overall I think this is better.
Idk why but the remastered cries sound squishy to me.
I'll be real, as someone who grew up after the N64 era, I didn't know until 5 minutes ago that Stadium had different cries - but these are wayyy cooler than the gen 6 remakes. It is so abundantly clear from the outside that Stadium had a shitton of love poured into it.
I never understood why they didn't reuse these for Gen 3 and onwards, they're like just an HD version of the original GB sounds
Right? I would’ve loved to see how the Gen 3 Pokémon cries would sound like
@@Anthonyvideogame from Gen 3 onwards they're "acceptable", they just need to be an HQ version, but GameBoy ones were a different thing altogether
because anything that isn't the original cries is a crap imitation
@@caldera11 this is not, it's official enough and accurate too
I don't think these cries could fit in a GBA cart
I love how accurate they are to the original cries while still sounding like actual creatures
Like miltank sounding like an actual cow and donphan like an elephant
Articuno’s stadium cry is so majestic it brings me to tears
Ikr
I assume this is what Pokemon would sound like in real life.
Yeah like spearow and fearow sounding like crows 0:45 and eagles and rattata and raticate sounding like rats 0:42
@@fansega531Not gonna lie, I prefer the noises used for Staryu and Starmie over their cries here. They just sound more distinctive.
To be fair miltanks cry in stadium sounds like an actual Cow mooing and Donphans cry is an elephant scream and I think Stantler is a deer or moose sound I don’t know and ampharos is a sheep sound and murkrow is a crow sound
Fun Fact: Pikachu has a special set of sounds and animations depending of whether or not they come from Pokémon Yellow. PY Pikachu's cries are dubbed and also play when attacking or taking damage.
Miltank being a straight-up cow’s “moo” gets me everytime.
Same with hoothoot just a straight owl noise😂
As Gen IX comes out, I’ve noticed a lot of the cries in the game follow Stadium’s format: like real animals, but with references to their type (Kilowattrel, Mabosstiff for example).
Crazy that Stadium was basically two decades ahead of its time.
They've been following that kind of trend since about Generation 4 when they could use higher quality samples to make cries out of and with Generation 6 they overhauled all the cries from before to either be rebuilt with HD samples or have more realistic sounds underneath them. Though Gen 8 and 9 have them going much more realistic when designing new cries compared to previous generations.
@@Ninetails2000 Now if only they can get rid of the Gen 6 replacements. Since imo they just sound wrong.
The Stadium cries are not only more realistic, but the are very beautiful and pleasant.
i think you got it wrong for some pokemon
They do feel a lot easier and smoother to the ears then the original cries
@@thatgazelle2001 I agree.
That Mr. Mime Stadium cry... sounds so menacing.
Sounds like confident demonic laughter
I always avoided using it because of this cry, I was afraid
HAHAHAHA
Mr. Mime's just an entertainer. Everyone knows that Hypno is the REAL problem one!
Alakazam scares me
The fact that Stadium’s cry for Mr. Mime scared me shows how great it is
Laughing at our torment.
HA HA HA HA
THEY SOUND SO REALISTIC WHILE ALSO BEING SO TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL CRIES IM SO IN LOVE
Gotta love how the Chikorita line sounds like birds
Same with Spinarak and Ariados
What's funny to me is I recognized being reused in the n64 Zelda games
Sauropods are closely related to birds, so it makes sense
@@error_404.69 Which ones the Ariados?
@@joynelbonet194 Them,Bayleef and Meganium. I believe in places like Lake Hylia you can hear birds who sound like them
As a child, I was always fascinated to hear the differences between their cries. I still to this day refer to some of their cries using Pokémon Stadium cries, especially Hitmonlee. That “Un un un” cry has never left my head. So much work was put into these cries, I’ll forever be grateful for them.
lol whenever i hear “un un un” i immediately think of regirock
@@ShadowmanisreallycoolHitmonlee: Pathetic
1:13 Stadium Nidoking is my literal childhood, he was the coolest Pokemon in existence to me
noctowl’s cry is the best one. it does not get any better than that. it fits perfectly
3:49 Kingler, didn't realize he was part cat.
Same haha I'd never noticed that before in Pokemon Stadium. Was it really always there??
These are just better than the XY cries. I LOVE the Bulbasaur line's!!!
Always
I Agree
The Ivysaur one is exactly like how I would imagine that cry to sound like in reality.
These cries give me like gen 4-5 vibes where they started implanting realistic sounds to the Pokémon cries, but with a fine mix of some console sound bits in them
So many are amazing. A lot of the bird cries are straight upgrades, like Murkrow and Fearow's line, Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Pidgey line, as well as Vulpix and Ninetales' cry.
03:31 really love how Haunter's Stadium cry incorporates a little shrieking noise into it, really helps sell the Ghost-type aspect of it
Also noticed Marowaks cry sounds muted compared to Cubones because of their enclosed bone 'helmet'. The attention to detail...
This is much better than them only saying their names.
Like Pikachu does in this video and Pokémon Stadium?
why r ppl always complaining about this
@@bilis2866 it's jarring to hear pikachu (and eevee) say their names while every other pokemon makes their usual noises
@@heavygunner4039 they are the mascots tho? imagine Mario not sounding like Mario
@@bilis2866
Chris Pratt: Say no more
Man that elephant sure got a lot of work with the stadium games.
Donphan?
Psyduck/Golduck and Mankey/Primeape are perfect and absolutely hilarious. That is exactly what they should sound like lol.
Mankey's cry always makes me laugh and I'm glad someone else thinks so too, lol.
@thekrookodilehunter7993Psyduck and Golduck are clearly ducks. The Pokedex states that they are duck Pokémon, and they have duck as a suffix in their respective names.
@thekrookodilehunter7993They literally have duck in their names, because they are ducks though.
Pokemon is a game for children man they’re not gonna throw 50 curveballs in the names of their Pokemon. It has duck in the name, because it is literally a duck
@thekrookodilehunter7993 My logic is “Pokemon will put an animal name in their Pokemon name because it is based on that animal” bro is it really that hard to grasp 😭
Also bombay duck (and geoduck as a matter of fact) are mispronunciations of non-English languages because English explorers were a little slow. If you respond with some “bUt WiTh yOUr LoGiC” nonsense again I’ll just know you’re a troll
@thekrookodilehunter7993it's. a. fucking. duck. Everyone knows that (except for you of course)
Ninetails always sounds forever the most majestic and mystical! ❤
I love that during the 90s, the pokémon's cries weren't just robotic beeps, but representations of more complex sounds. GF tried to make the Pokémon feel more than just data in a software, as long as technology allowed them. Now GF will just leave things as they are (like the original cries) because "it's nostalgic". The pokémon don't feel like living creatures anymore, they are now just clusters of data. And it's sad
the sound team from this game is goated. imagine a modern Pokemon game coming out with this much effort
I don't think "effort" is the right word here.
Masterpiecery that’s the word
These are stock sound effects are you stupid?
More like time and less pressure from TPCi
nobody talks about totodile and croconaw doing the actual noise of a baby crocodiles
I've never played Pokémon Stadium, but man. These cries are FANTASTIC.
The fact that they sound like the original ones, is a thing. But the amazing thing is that they actually make them sound like mythical creatures. Most of them actually sound real, and threatening. It's just great! Also they sound a bit like gen 5 cries… Maybe that's why I love them.
Gen 10 needs to use this style of cries
yes! or they can make pokemon stadium 3 with all of the pokemon from gen 1 through gen 9
4:36 always loved this one
Dear Pkmn Stadium 1 & 2 Teams:
You taught me english, to dream, and to challenge myself (because holy cow some of those battles were brutal). I will be forever thankful to you
I love how with pokemon like Doduo or Dugtrio, you can almost hear each head making a distinct part of the cry.
Sometimes I get sad, but then I remember Lickitungs Stadium cry sounds like this 4:14
this but with sudowoodo’s cry 7:11
HWURR!
I would say out of all of them, Ninetales, Donphan, Snorelax, Psyduck, Poliwag, Jigglypuff and Jinx's cries are the ones I default to most often in my head over their actual cries.
These are amazing. They clearly take inspiration from the original cries, but sound like creatures. And they don't go into the bullshit anime saying their name thing. This is the perfect middle ground for Pokemon cries.
not all pokemon say their name in the anime
@@bilis2866not in the newer animes, but in the older ones they focused more on the "saying their name" thing
I dont like it when pokemon say their names over and over again like in the anime but pikachu have to say its name even in the games..🤦♂️. Still its cringy and stupid. I find pokemon cries better then saying their name and realistic akin to real animals in away. However few pokemon in the anime dont say their name like charizard.
3:51 Sounds like a cat meowing in the background of Kingler's cry
I love hitmonlee's stadium version, it brings me some childhood memories
Is it me or the Haunter one was always the most horrifying one, in the good way. Imagine being midnight and you hear that cry in the dark of the streets...
Some of these sound better than the remade ones from the games. Others sound like they told an animal to replicate the original cry and used the closest sound it made.
I love how unique all the cries are, and you can feel the personality in the cry itself!
I really like how if you listen you can hear traces of the Game Boy Variant in the Stadium Version My personal Favorite being The Nidoran Family and Mareep Line
Am I the only one who can Sandslash say "slash" in its Stadium cry? Also the whole Caterpie line sounds adorable 😍.
i can too!
I know, they're so cute 😍
They are the embodiment of utter caterpillar adorableness
5:43 DANG!!
I wonder Why Gamefreak didn't use the Stadium cries for Gen 6 onwards?
Cause Gamefreak didn’t make the Pokemon Stadium series, it was HAL Laboratory
@@Rulytasho but they can recreate own copyright
ya mean gen 3?
Just Gamefreak being Gamefreak. They LOVE to loss opportunities
@@Rulytasho I'm not sure if that's valid, because HAL Laboratories didn't make Pokémon Colosseum, XD, and Battle Revolution and those games use the same 3D models for the majority of the Pokémon from these generations. If they can use the 3D models, they probably can use the cries, also.

Sounds better than Scarlet and Violet crys
I feel so insulted that a SPINOFF GAME has more love than the base game. The sounds of every individual cry is uniquely charming
All other Pokémon: masterfully reworked cry.
Miltank: MOO
More effort was put into this and resulted in better cires than every mainline pokemon game.
A long time needed on TH-cam. Good stuff! Better than the old drawn out videos with animations and music and stuff slowly changing from one to the other.
TH-cam has given me SO much more respect for Pokemon stadium. I swear.
Awesome! Pokémon Stadium 1 & 2 cries are ahead of their time in the 90s/early 2000s and bear similarity with some many sounds coming from animals such as birds, dogs, fishes and others.
Spearow and Fearow sound just perfect in every aspect!
Gamefreak: I don’t even know you.
These are high quality cries.
This is way better than the X/Y cries!
God, I distinctly remember the little squeaks Togepi makes because of that Togepi racing minigame and remembered thinking "why don't you sound like this in the main games?"
God, some of these made me so hype, I never played Stadium but all my favourite pokemon had such good cries!
mankey being a straight up monkey scream sent me and idk why
You could straight up use most of these as kaiju cries and I love that!
0:37 woah, how have I never heard these? The loon Pidgey calls are so cool!
Scyther 4:49
Electabuzz 4:56
Onix 3:35
Alot of the Stadium cries are really good. I'm surprised newer 3D Pokemon games don't use them. Imgaine hearing these in Sword or Shield or Scarlet and Violet.
Just imagine hearing these alone in a jungle or on a boat at night
I would be happy cause pokemon exists
Man, I've been waiting for someone to make this video!! High props because I know this must've been a pain! Love Stadium series😍
they’re all so cool sounding and then primeapes just the noise i make when i step on a lego
3:31 is just so badass. Pokémon Stadium (2) Haunter is my personal favorite Pokémon.
Even the ones not taken from real animal sounds feel more natural and fluid
1:38 favorite cry
I prefer the stadium ones, as they sound like real animals, or other creatures, not just electronic sounding.
I have a feeling if the anime didn't have them say their names, this is how they would sound outside the games. Imagine the pokemon movie with this kind of sound effects
not only better animations, but more effort put into the cries as well. fantastic work.
should’ve just given the Pokémon rights to HAL
hearing all the n64 ones am making me super nostalgic, really wish this was something they did more of
That haunter cry tho
Haunter’s Stadium cry is supposed to match it’s original cry from the 90s.
@@thepizzaturtle7918 it’s good
Scary
This is what pokemon should sound in the animation
I love Ninetails, Arcanine & Lapras. Stadium’s Pokemon cries were truly iconic.
Mr. Mime's cry in stadium has the evil laugh
0:55 Cry Of The Legendary Pokémon Mascot; Pikachu.
RBY Machop line: chip tune noises
Stadium Machop line: literally just guys screaming
the one where i first noticed the similarity as a kid was gastly. that and the fact that gastly is ENORMOUS in pokemon stadium
Mareep: Baa!
Flaaffy: Baaaa!
Ampharos: BEHHHHHHH!
0:36 LMFAO PIDGEY
2:02 Bro will NOT be Diddy Kong
8:26 why does Swinub sound like that

I never noticed that the stadium cries were actually similar to their in game ones!! Thats so fkin cool!!! I just thought they were random screams
Hope that in future games they use more realistic cries for pokemos , i dont understand how pokemon stadium 2 an old game have more better cries than pokemon scarlet 😅
Another example where the side games outshine mainline games that are 10+ years older
These cries are really good. If you listen close, you can actually hear the original cry buried within a lot of the gen 1 Stadium cries. You'd never notice in the actual game though.
Man, I absolutely love the Poli line of cries.
4:34 Seadra sounds like its coughing.
And they were never heard from again.
So the theme of turning every remotely cat-like pokemon's cry into a meow is a tradition that goes to the very beginning.
Grimer always sounded like a toilet flushing in Pokemon Stadium 🤣🤣
I like how Pikachu actually says Pikachu 00:56
