    MacAlpine!! Awesome. True story incoming:
Around 86-87 not-well-known-yet Tony was doing a BC Rich clinic in Sacramento. A guy asks him, “what do you think of Yngvie?” Tony says, “he’s pretty good.” The guy kinda scoffs, “pretty good?” Tony shrugs. “Yeah, I mean lots of guys can play fast, but the trick is to make it musical.” He proceeds to rip an insanely fast but musical piece for about 20 seconds or so.
When he closes it the crowd erupts into a big “oooooh!” Like damn that dude got put in his place. The guy, wide eyed now, exhales in that way your cheeks puff out and gives Tony a nod of awed respect.
Such a cool moment. He was also a super nice dude as I recall.

Tony is a beast, i love tony, hes one of my favorite guitar players from the 80s
But him, vinnie moore, paul gilbert and the list could go on, they all learn from yngwie, any way what i wanted to say is that i think yngwie can be very musical too when he wants too haha
Or he used to be anyway...not anymore

Tony has always been my favorite of the 'shredders'. If you listen to his single note runs, he always puts interesting twists and turns in them and almost never plays straight ascending or descending runs, even at ludicrous speed. Always dug his vibrato too.

While I'm posting I may as well make more requests or suggestions lol. How about something from Jeff Watson? Some of his 8 finger tapping stuff remains beyond my reach.
And I'm just going to assume Michael Lee Firkins is already on your docket lol so I'll just wait patiently for that one hehe. Still have my Laughing Stacks soundpage tucked safely away. His renditions of some of Jason Becker's compositions are so awesome too. And he does a super fun version of the Sanford and Son theme that's worth checking out. Cheers!

I saw the same tour at Bogart’s in Cincinnati. Eric Sardiñas opened up and it was the same lineup. Back in The 80s and 90s I would’ve been drunk, no matter who was playing at Bogart‘s. Basically every time I was at Bogart’s, I was drunk. I was sober when I saw that Steve Vai tour with Tony playing. ......Those Kramer Pacers we’re around $900. It was the second guitar I bought. Candy apple blue with a Floyd Rose and gold plated tuners.

Another winner. If you've not listened to it, check MacAlpine's tone (kind of that chorus-y squealy 80's tone but maybe slightly more modern) in one of his lesser known tracks called "Blue Maserati". Really catchy hook in that one.
That pedal point tapping thing makes me wish my fingers were about an inch longer on avg lol.

I loved Tony's approach to sweeps and songwriting much more than Yngwie when they were both new on the scene... and I actually loved PROJECT DRIVER which was a band Tony toured with way back in the mid-80s. Man, I used to have that exact guitar! Bought it in about 1980 and had it until two years ago. Kind of regret selling it, but it’s one of those guitars you spend loads of money upgrading and improving only to realise you liked it the way it was! What a doofus!!

Hang on. Is that my *actual* guitar? It had all black pickups on, and I upgraded to a Bareknuckle EVH bridge pickup - the zebra one seen in the picture - and Mother’s Milk in the middle and neck positions ). Also put jumbo frets on at the insistence of a luthier (big mistake).

You can tell by the footage with the puppets that it was fake playing. You could see the video glitch when it was doing a close up of his hands ;)

I've been thinking about him and I have a few ideas for doing something TOTALLY different, but it will revolve around him and his music and really reveal some of his secrets.
Thanks for watching and for this request/comment too!
      Stay tuned...
