Hence why the M4 CSL has WAY more bhp than a 911 GT3 and even GT3 RS. its a tad under 600bhp on the dyno. Officially 543. While Porsche does 502bhp. With the RS doing 518bhp. To put into perspective..that's barely any more than previous gen C63 AMG. The 0-60 times reflect this too as the other Germans are around 3.3 - 3.5s. While porsche is around 3.9s. In other words it would kill the Porsche in a drag race as that's what it's supposed to do. Even supercars would have a run for their money as its older brother, the M5 is a literal super car killer. We will never see the weight savings the previous M models possessed. With heavy dual clutch systems and clunky driver assisted firmware it's technically impossible until a new lightweight carbon graphene matrix composite is used.
I really do not understand auto journalists. Let me explain. I own a GT-R (4,000 lbs.) and a Mini Cooper (2,800). I have driven both during driving violent rainstorms with heavy crosswinds. Guess which car felt safer and more stable on the road? Guess which one felt safer when I was driving with lorries and other heavy trucks around me? Also I’ve driven a Lotus Elise and it was the most unsafe car I’ve ever driven. It felt slight and insubstantial especially at speed on the highway. So I don’t get how auto journalists are so laser focused on low weight when outside of a track, that makes no difference. For the everyday driver, weight is underrated. No they do not want 5,000 lbs. urban tanks but most drivers want a substantial car with a safe amount of weight for everyday driving. Oh and most drivers do not want Cup 2 tires that cannot grip in rain and must be replaced every 1,000 miles. Most drivers will never visit a racetrack and most owners of this new CSL will drive it on the weekends to show off on Rodeo Drive or keep it as a garage queen to flip and resell in 10-20 years. Oh and the appalling nostrils on this car are still horrifically ugly.

They also neglected to mention it's pumping 70hp and 100NM more than the standard m4, and that he 100kg weight loss is compared to the m4 competition, not the standard m4. He also says M3 twice in his comparison comments, which is poor editting.
Because BMW wanted to justify that cost cutting measure. Racers complain about the new gearbox constantly, go search M240R Sachs performance zf8, watch their vids.
Yeah sounds like he loved the car, just doesn’t like that it’s called a CSL. Last CSL had a gearbox everyone hated, they just liked that it was a high revving NA engine.
Amazing good looking car but too heavy for the Racetrack. I think an Porsche GT4RS or GT3RS is better for Trackies. The BMW M4 CSL is mor the GT. For the German Autobahn you have the Power and a wonderful Body from the Car. Dreamcar for me.
I imagine the reason for giving the new M4 the CSL treatment was to up the appeal of the whole package. Make some people forgive how ugly it is because it’s shape now holds the latest legendary CSL badge.
Yep, all you gotta do these days is to heavily limit production artificially and people will pay ANY price for it and store them away to make even more money with it. These aren´t cars for true car enthusiasts and they were never meant to be. They´re basically just art collectibles at this point.
Great review. Someone that opens up about the pros and cons! Agree BMW should have applied the CSL formula to the M2. Missed this opportunity with the F87. Can’t apply this to the G87 M2 considering it looks like Lego and it’s heritage starts in Mexico 🇲🇽 😅
They should have given it a party trick. An airbox, a unique driving mode, special exhaust etc. Something unique to the CSL. This looks like a M3 csl wannabe, lazy effort parts bin M car. And to sacrifice the CSL badge for this is a missed opportunity
The CSL is not extreme enough, it's too slow, too MEH, it needs more power (550hp), it needs less weight (-300kg) but keep the looks, it needs to be on par with a Porsche 992 GT3.
Are these cars only for people with 50 cars? I can’t image why anyone would spend 130k on an M4 in 2022 when there are dozens of other way faster, better looking, and better driving cars.
Yes. The few ppl I’ve talked to that ordered one already have an M2 CS, 911, family car(s). All but one paid a markup too. I think it’s dumb, still ugly and way overpriced and I own 2 M’s. Plus the E46 CSL still had a usable back seat, this doesn’t. Should have been called a GTS.
Business men with a brain. It's a limited edition car and an appreciating asset that just needs to sit in the garage. While other cars at £120k are depreciating liabilities.
No idea what’s going on with BMW these days?! Just like Ford - dropping the Fiesta (which is a mistake) BMW are just whacking a CSL badge on a car which doesn’t suit the name. As he says the M2 would be epic in CSL guise. Strange decisions being made in the car world 🤔🤷🏻

They also neglected to mention it's pumping 70hp and 100NM more than the standard m4, and that he 100kg weight loss is compared to the m4 competition, not the standard m4. He also says M3 twice in his comparison comments, which is poor editting.
Everyon hates the ZF over the DCT. I wonder why the M4 GT3 uses the ZF gearbox 🤔
Because BMW wanted to justify that cost cutting measure. Racers complain about the new gearbox constantly, go search M240R Sachs performance zf8, watch their vids.
2:00 dude the m2 is as heavy as the m4. Some journalism there huh
This car is handsome
I think it can battle a STD GT3 hand down..... Lets wait on the GTS to take the battle to the next level
There won’t be a gts.
ZF box is why I'll probably never go another M car (have an M2 Comp atm). Drove the new G Series M4 Comp - the box is uneventful, boring.
Spoke sh** about the car, but had the best time in it. Yeah naah you don't deserve to drive it.
This does not deserve the CSL badge.
True, ugliest car to revive a great name
more than the average man can afford - well done
It's not made for the average man, that's the point... Get a corolla if you want an every man's car
@@homiefizzle5260 well thanks for that in-depth insight
Or women , remember we are in a politically correct era now tutt tutt 😂
sry for that money i would take lotus emira, and have some extra cash to modify if desired
Worst thing about the old CSL is that its an auto... and they do it again!
It's impossible to fit a DCT into the transmission tunnel without widening it and having the most of the engine hung far in front of the front axle.
@@SLO722 should be a manual
@@SLO722 Total BS. F10 M5, F8x M2/3/4 all had M-DCT. Stop spreading misinformation.
@@ndj4267 I’m talking about the current M cars. They all have a 8-speed automatic gearbox.
There is no replacement for the BMW M GTS till now
Thank you Top Gear for remaining objective and calling a pig a pig. BOOO BMW
I can’t wait for this to go down in value so I can just look on auto trader how much it costs hoping I can afford it but knowing I can’t
Too big, too heavy & too expensive!
Just becoming silly limited edition trinkets/investment opportunities for the mega rich.
He started saying something and ended up saying the opposite ! I didn’t understand him honestly , we need Chris Harris !
You are saying that it has Cup 2 Rs, but on video is 4Ss
I imagine the reason for giving the new M4 the CSL treatment was to up the appeal of the whole package.
Make some people forgive how ugly it is because it’s shape now holds the latest legendary CSL badge.
Yep, all you gotta do these days is to heavily limit production artificially and people will pay ANY price for it and store them away to make even more money with it.
These aren´t cars for true car enthusiasts and they were never meant to be. They´re basically just art collectibles at this point.
the color 🤩
Doesn't seem to know if he's reviewing an M3 or and M4.
Why should the 4-series have the honour of being the fastest BMW ever? Shouldn't they have made an M8 CSL or something?
*Dream car* 😇💙
Dream better
Only Clarkson or Hammond could have done this justice
Would love to be a car journalist but I cannot drive & talk at the same time........🤣
He kept calling it an M3 the whole time 😂
Tbh this should still be the M3 the 4 door M3 should become the M4 agree?
@@e.ggamerguy5793 i agree, just like the RS5 is the sedan version of the RS4 and RS7 the sedan of the RS6
@@e.ggamerguy5793 that proper m3 you mentioned is now in the history...
Will be interesting how many people can afford a £128k m4 aka 500 whatever bhp
precisely m2 Csl would have made more sense.
It would be better if u had bring a GR86
The CSL is not extreme enough, it's too slow, too MEH, it needs more power (550hp), it needs less weight (-300kg) but keep the looks, it needs to be on par with a Porsche 992 GT3.
CSL actually haves just under 600hp when dynoed
Are these cars only for people with 50 cars? I can’t image why anyone would spend 130k on an M4 in 2022 when there are dozens of other way faster, better looking, and better driving cars.
Comment inspired by poverty
@@duffydon1741 lol you have no idea what you’re talking about.
@@SL4PSYM4XY judging from what i see, you probably have a i30 poor dude!
Business men with a brain. It's a limited edition car and an appreciating asset that just needs to sit in the garage.
While other cars at £120k are depreciating liabilities.
So basically ignore what Ive just said in the first 4.39 mins of this video the car is fantastic, ok.
Do a head to head against the alfa romeo GTA
You know, I don't actually mind the front gri....nah, it's still shite! 😅 And for a CSL, it's WAY too heavy, come on BMW get your damn act together!
It’s got the front of a Citroen 😂😂😂 & it’s not worth £60k never mind 120k
Eh? Citröen are amazing looking cars. Put down the glue.
His argument makes no sense 🤦🏾♂️.
This grille is way better than the M2
Bmw Power 🔥
No idea what’s going on with BMW these days?! Just like Ford - dropping the Fiesta (which is a mistake) BMW are just whacking a CSL badge on a car which doesn’t suit the name. As he says the M2 would be epic in CSL guise. Strange decisions being made in the car world 🤔🤷🏻
what a contrasting video...1str half of slamming the spec on paper and decisions based on opinion, and 2nd half letting the car and its performance speak for itself
I thought it was Club Sport not Coupe Sport.
The M3 CSLs used to be a thing to look at, unlike this dogfood. And why do people check their rear views on a track? 😂
As good as it is beautiful
