    I'm really enjoying watching you make my favourite recipes that I can't make on a regular basis because of the high risk of diabetes. It makes me happy to see the process because baking was one of my favourite things to do for my family. Now they have their own families to bake for, or they are like me trying to watch their health. I love to see you using the old-fashioned methods for making things instead of all the labour-saving gadgets. I think some of those machines make more work than they save, but that is just my opinion. Thank you for your presentation of this delicious recipe. 😀

    Thank you Mr. Paul. I love date and walnut loaf but I think I’ve only ever made it a couple of times. My mum used to make this quite often and I used her recipe but I lost the recipe and never found another recipe that was the same. Now I can make it again with your recipe, woo hoo. Looks like I’ll be doing a fair bit of baking over the next couple of weeks. I love your cooking, it’s all like my mum and my dad used to make, and I love all the good old English recipes.

    I just made this, it's excellent! I make it to a different recipe and yours knocks it into a cocked hat! I never used bicarb in with my soaking dates, I guess it helps with the date skins and helps the rise a little bit. All in all a superb recipe, thanks very much.

    Hi, found your site the other day. As soon as I get my conversion chart from grams to cups I'm going to make this. I lost my Grandmother's recipe a long time ago but she would make this and in the afternoon we would have a piece of the bread with cream cheese and a cup of tea.

    • @MrPaulsPantry
      @MrPaulsPantry  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello Susan, do yourself a favour and buy a metric digital scale. The cup measuring system is the most inaccurate one there is. If you measure out 3 cups of lour then weigh them ALL 3 will be different, also I'll guarantee your local baker will NOT be using cups, he will be weighing everything.

    That looks like a lovely little loaf! Could some of the flour be substituted with whole meal flour? How about adding some cinnamon and vanilla?

    • @MrPaulsPantry
      @MrPaulsPantry  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please don't ruin this delightful recipe by adding cinnamon or vanilla. As a professional baker for 60+ years we NEVER used vanilla, it kills any other flavours and is usually used commercially to hide some other unwelcome flavours. Adding wholemeal flour will affect the texture of the cake by affecting the rise.

    if you use greaseproof paper how do you stop it sticking to the cake? I suppose most people's don't but mine did last week and tore the side off. btw you didn't say how long to cook the 1LB tins - I've often wondered if there's a formula for this: if you halve the recipe you don't halve the cooking time or temperature, so how do you work it out? Cheers

    • @MrPaulsPantry
      @MrPaulsPantry  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Kelvin, greaseproof paper is not non-stick, it should be greased like cake tins, etc. The parchment we use in the bakery is silicone treated paper, which is non-stick. When I use greaseproof, I grease the tin first, this helps hole the paper in place. Then I grease the paper whilst it's flat on the table before placing in the tin. I hope this helps.

      Sorry, I don't use cups, it's the most inaccurate measuring system. The rest of the world use the metric system, even your local baker won't use cups. Treat yourself to a digital scale, grams are the same the world over. Sorry I can't help.
