    You missed a hidden dialogue in 29:55. There's a wooden pallet on the water. If you swim near it, Ellie says "Joel, would you give me a ride?" He replies: "Those days are long gone, Ellie."

While I wasn't around for the entirety of this portion, mocap shoots from this section were no doubt highlights in my time working with the publisher and devs. If I hadn't checked, I would've thought putting the hat on the Joel was cut from the game, mainly because I couldn't trigger it on my first playthrough... more like 28:01 minutes for me. I’m not about to feel bad for the fireflies, who went straight to deciding to kill a teenage girl without her consent for a CHANCE at a cure as if they were on some sort of time crunch.

    • @kindnessark8064
      @kindnessark8064 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would of been a fun story if they had a main group of Fireflies show up where they have found others that are immune. And turns out Joel’s lies are true. They can’t create a cure. But Ellis becomes valuable to the Fireflies and they try to kidnap Ellie. But Joel and Tommy save Ellie.
      They could of introduced Ish from the Pittsburgh sewers. After escaping Pittsburg with the other sewer residents the fireflies may of attacked Ish’s group. Turns out Ish had a couple of immune members with Him and Ish’s group have tracked down the fireflies. But need a bigger group to finish them for good.
      Together Ish, Tommy, Joel, Ellie and perhaps a couple new main characters go out in adventure to finish off what remains of the Fireflies. If they wanted to have a major death scene fair enough, but this could of come in the ending battle. Perhaps Joel reveals the truth to why He originally lied but in the final fight Joel saves Ellie and Tommy but in the process gets fatally wounded.
      This would have certainly made a far better adventure story sequel and would of drew on some old connections to the first game.

    If you examine the card after picking it up, Ellie tells Joel that it’s a superhero card, and Joel says that Sarah used to be into them… or “the little animal things”, he can’t remember.
    It’s one of the most heartbreaking things, to hear that after 20 years and a grown adoptive relationship with Ellie, that Sarah, the girl who used to be Joel’s only reason to live, his pride and joy, *his daughter,* taken away from him too early, is beginning to slowly slip away from him.

    What I love about the command module scene is the way Ellie is still daydreaming when the recording ends. As if she's just exited earths orbit and is just floating out in space, many many miles away just like her imagination. Even the light sweeping across her helmet simulating motion and with the glossy reflection of light almost mirroring the distant moon. A very similar scene with Ellie and Riley at the arcade. Nicely done imo! Man, even the lights on the panels light up which you can see in the reflection on the helmet. Details are insane!

      34:25 what is this scene trying to portray?

    • @idontlikeyoulol16
      @idontlikeyoulol16 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@anastasiesasmr9805 I know the question wasnt directed at me but i’ll answer you anyway
      The Fireflies purpose was to restore some semblance of a normal society. They had two main objectives: 1) Organize the return of a formal government by seizing control from the Military or other Militant type factions. 2) Eradicate/minimize the danger of the Cordyceps infection by finding a way to synthesize a vaccine.
      The beginning of the first game shows us that the Fireflies were basically a terrorist militia group themselves, consistently planning small attacks against the military controlling the Boston Quarantine Zone. We get a small taste of what they’ve been doing when they blow up some military trucks right in front of the checkpoint gate.
      So it’s heavily implied they did many morally questionable things believing it ultimately would be justified if they could eventually accomplish either of their two objectives. I believe this is most apparent when they rush so quickly to perform that surgery on Ellie at the end of the first game. Obviously, we know that doesn’t work out too well for them.
      However, the fallout of the faction is what’s important here. Basically, Joel single handedly destroyed the Fireflies. At the end of the game, we do learn that some fireflies were able to make their way down to Santa Barbara to keep their faction together, but for the most part, after Joel’s “Salt Lake Massacre,” the remaining surviving fireflies dealt with that event in separate ways.
      We can assume that at least one serving person from that group at St. Mary’s Hospital made their way to a random museum before their guilt and utter despair completely took over. All those comments written on the walls are meant to show all the things this one person did as a firefly and thought were justified since in their mind, they were going to save the world. Once that ultimate goal was unattainable, the reality set in that they done all these awful things. This person has a complete mental breakdown and ultimately kills themself.
      In addition to all that, this scene serves as a reminder both to Ellie and the audience that Joel’s lie is still looming over their relationship. Seeing the Firefly symbol, with the word “Liars” written underneath it, forces Ellie to think about everything that happened again. It becomes one of those thoughts that just sits in the back of her mind, constantly nagging at her. She needs to know what actually happened. It becomes her obsession, slowly causing her to become more distant with Joel.
      In the last seconds of the clip you can see ellie grabbing her bite and joel covering the «S» in liarS

    Ngl, Ellie’s dinosaur obsession probably has a secret horrifying meaning. During the prehistoric era, most fungi and viruses were ten times deadlier than today. And now that same structure is coming back to the present time where it has destroyed nearly all of humanity. This just showed how low we fell considering we were facing with a threat from millions of years ago that we had no idea it was going to comeback.

That's what made us love The Last Of Us and I can't believe they got rid of that within the first 2 hours..

    • @Niro95
      @Niro95 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      That's what we all wanted, a happily ever after story without people dying or suffering. But that's what we all want in life, unfortunately life is usually not like that. And that's what makes this game great. After seeing Joel die, we appreciate more this moments, we can only see him in memories, we don't have him anymore. And in a world like the last of us, where things are brutal, this game story is perfect and it makes sense.

    • @hellfish2309
      @hellfish2309 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      None of the first game suggests that their world lets anyone have much of this - that’s the point... and part of connecting as parent and child is confronting conflicting truths as the child matures, which is what their drama is in part 2

      @@Niro95 A story is not real life. A story is not about realism, unless it is. A story is always about something. When the writer decides “the something” - the theme - he writes every element of the story to relate to it. Real life doesn’t have a theme. It doesn’t respond to a structure. Real life is chaotic and random and would make for a boring storytelling experience. You can make a story about how random or violent real life can be, but that would be the theme of your story. So realism is not a good justification for what happens in a story because a story is a controlled environment and the theme dictates everything.
      TLOU Part II doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s a sequel. So what is theme of the first game and what made people love it?
      “The first game is about Joel’s and Ellie’s Father/Daughter relationship.
      This is what the players love about the first game. So Joel’s and Ellie’s relationship is the story’s arc AND what people love about the first game.
      Their relationship IS The Last Of Us”.
      Do you think it’s reasonable to take a story about Father and Daughter bonding and make the Father to be brutally murdered in front of his Daughter? Do you think it’s reasonable to make a story about Father and Daughter bonding and turn it into an empty soulbreaking quest for revenge?
      See, the problem is not about killing a beloved character or doing so in a gruesome way. There are plenty of good stories that manage to do it: GOT kills most of the Stark family; the Walking Dead kills a lot of it’s main characters… Some of those deaths are quite brutal, but the fans don’t hate them like they hate Joel’s death. On the contrary, they love them. The problem is also not about how bleak the story is. The Road has a very bleak world and people love it. I choose to use The Walking Dead and The Road as examples because they have a similar world to TLOU and may share some fans. So people can deal with character’s death and bleak storytelling. Why they hate Joel’s death so much? Because it doesn’t fit the first game’s theme about Father and Daughter bonding. Game of Thrones is about the ruthless political game of thrones. The deaths fit the theme of story. Walking Death is about the brutality of a collapsed civilization. The deaths fit the theme of the story. DON’T CONFUSE THE WORLD WHERE THE STORY HAPPENS WITH THE THEME. The Road had a very bleak world, but the story is actually quite hopeful. So it doesn’t make sense for Joel to be brutally murdered just because he lives in a bleak and violent world because a story it not about realism, it’s about the theme.
      You can say that people got frustrated because their expectations were subverted. But that’s weird, right? I know it’s a meme by now, but subverted expectations should be good, so what’s the problem? What shitty writers don’t understand is that when you subvert an expectation, YOU STILL HAVE TO RESPECT THE STORY’S THEME. Most of the times you cannot subvert an expectation out of the story original’s theme. Bruce Willis being a ghost by the end of Sixth Sense subverts an expectation and respects the story theme. Everything about TLOU Part II does not respect the theme of TLOU Part I. When you subvert an expectation by going off the story’s theme, you are not engaging your audience. You are disrespecting them for empty shock value. If Joel’s death had respected TLOU’s theme fans would have loved it.

    The best way I can describe this sequence - specifically Joel and Ellie’s walk through the woods - is Ellie had a near death experience and was able to enjoy a few peaceful moments with Joel in the after life before being revived somehow. Though I know it’s a flashback, this sequence gives me that sense of zen.

    My favorite part of this flashback is when Ellie gets separated from Joel in the museum and she finds herself alone in a dark area. She finds these random statements graffitied on to the wall (the first one saying: “I killed for them”) and as you go deeper and deeper into darkness you find the persons corpse and a note written by him. Finally you find the firefly logo painted in black written on a wall and you realize this person was a Firefly. The set up is spooky and builds up the more you go forward.

    I’m totally obsessed with The Last of Us & I really don’t know why . I watched a friend do the play through of TLOU 2 then I went out & bought the first game & played it & was instantly hooked . Know I can see what the fuss is all about . It’s a great story line & not far off from the reality of truth . Something like this could happen , the conditions in the world right now are great for the cordycepts fungi to mutate & become stronger & maybe infect people like in ants , but I don’t think people infected with it would attack people , they would do exactly what the ants would do & climb to the perfect climate & clamp down & the spores would form infecting others , slowly killing off the human race & maybe someone would be immune to the fungi like Ellie & we would find a cure for it . Just food for though , I have never had a childhood infection like chicken pox , mumps , measles etc & my daughter as well has never had any neither . Growing up I spent most of my time in the hospital because of a birth defect from 6 months old to 5 years old , then from 14 to 22 years old , not saying I’m immune to childhood diseases , but I have never had them . Weird.
