When Joel lied to Ellie at the final scene it was heartbreakingly beautiful. So utterly human. What a way to bookend the story. Ellie knew Joel lied. It wasn’t about the fireflies or saving the world. It was a beautiful test… will you do anything to protect me? Even lie to me? Dad….❤️
@@khoado2060 I understand that, I've seen the behind the scenes. However, you have to realize that motion capture is essentially an alignment tool. IMO the emotion is captured in the facial details, that animators spend hours fine tuning.

Wonderful job... edited out fight scenes, no personal commentary, inclusion of all the game credits. Professionally done and a joy to watch. Thank you.
That ending man. “Swear to me that everything you that said about the fireflies is true” “I swear” “Okay…” And we were left like that for seven years… the ending was so perfect it could have just been the only one ever made. Part ll was fine but did not have to be added. This was the best ending in all of video game history and I’ll never forget the dread I felt sitting there watching the credits. The main menu came up again and I started a new game on grounded. I wanted to suffer.
@Ed M Never played the game, but I've seen reviews about them (and how they ruined things in the following installments), and now that I'm watching this, I see clues in the first game that they were heading in the direction that they took it for the sequels. The okie doke look like it was planned from the beginning. But they started out with good story to draw people in. But about the ending, I think she's wanting confirmation that she's not just waiting to end up like every other cauliflower zombie and that they didn't waste all the effort they went through. But the real dilemma is whether or not to let her know that she had to sacrifice her own life in order to do it would put an extremely heavy burden of guilt on her for possibly feeling selfish for preserving herself, or feeling even more grief for having to leave the only person left that she felt safe around.
@Ed M That's what I was talking about. And what I found out in the reviews of the following games. What I saw in this compilation video was Joel getting attacked and needing mostly female characters bail him out (other than the girl). The man he went to ask for a car from, he talked about losing a "partner". He didn't say friend. And when he reached the compound, his brother said his wife runs the compound. Those all came off as clues that the agendas were on their way from the first episode. I think they used the first game to ease it in because they knew it would flop to come out so obvious with it. Like what happens with movies. They don't try starting out that way. They always seek to change what the audience has already proven what they like.
i can’t thank you enough for uploading this, i have such appreciation for this story but never been able to play it, yet the story is so immersive i didn’t had to in order to enjoy it. the work behind this game is smth rare to find, from the crew to the actors they created a true masterpiece. now i’ll head on to watch your other movies on left behind and then tlou2, you’re a life savior 🙌
After so many years, I still cry like a girl when I see the pure father and daughter love between Joel and Ellie. It’s such a shame that they decided to kill Joel in the second game.
That they decided to kill Joel.... It's called story telling. what you think he should be immortal or something? write your own story if you're not happy with others.
They could’ve probably had Joel around longer in TLOU but honestly everyone should’ve known he was gonna die looking back at it now. Despite not wanting him to die, it’s a necessary death towards the story.
My predictions for the rest of tlou episodes. Ep 7: A adaptation of the Left Behind DLC, ending with Ellie meeting David. ending scene: 1:51:32 Ep 8: Ellie meets David and fights with him, Joel struggles to gain strength, but in the end he kills The cannibals and finds Ellie after she kills David, and calls her Baby Girl . Ending scene: 2:11:57 Ep 9: Ellie and Joel arrive at the firefly hospital, Joel wakes up and finds out they are gonna kill Ellie. The rest is an action packed episode with Joel going badass. After taking Ellie they arrive back in Jackson with the iconic "I swear" scene. The screen fades to black and the series ends. Ending :2:34:09 lemme know if im right
With how much they’re changing, I just hope they keep the interrogation scene and Ellie mauling David. It seems like they’ve cut back excessively on the violence so it makes me doubt it will happen. Also, with how broken they’ve made Joel, I don’t see the hospital playing out how it does either

I'm curious about newcomers so I gotta ask. How would you compare the dialogue or acting of the first episode and the game up until pretty much where the episode ends. Which do you prefer?
@@jackryder5683 ok so I’m only watching up until the end of each episode so I don’t spoil anything so I’ve only watched to that point in this video. It seems as though it is really an almost exact copy of the scenes that exist in the game with ofc a lot of extra fluff to fill in the hour. So comparably they seem the same. Which is great because that means the game has just as much emotion and “acting” as a the show. Voice acting ofc but still acting.
@@jackryder5683 aside from some alterations they’ve made because tv show it seems they’re respecting the source material so far. It also has me worried because all of the characters so far are really good and my heart strings and have been getting pulled really hard.
2:22:50 this is where the Fireflies fucked up… all they had to do was let Joel talk to Ellie & make sure she was okay with it. Say goodbye & save the world.
Literally better than a movie nowadays.. absolutely loved this game! Kinda wished the fight scenes weren’t cut out so I could relive it completely. But yeah, thank you for this video. By far my favourite gaming experience ever!
I played the game when it first came out. I’ve forgotten a lot of the dialogues and what actually happened. Thanks for sharing this. Will be watching this whole thing tonight!
Man this game looks SO GOOD BTW for the person that made this video I envy you and worship you. Compiling all of the cutscenes WITH the important dialogue is just perfect. Thank you.
I thought they got a lot right in the game to be honest, especially the look and feel of the game. But casting Bella Ramsey as Ellie was a big mistake for me. She looks nothing like Ellie in the game and she clearly hadn't played the game because Ellie's TV character didn't act in the same way, even though she was delivering the same lines. They also switched things around with Bill regarding the time difference, so Ellie never got to meet him, which was a shame, because I really liked their interactions in the game. Although I thought Nick Offerman was still brilliant in the TV series. Probably the dumbest thing in the TV was deciding to make Sam mute, because you simply can't believe he'd have survived free roaming in that environment. I think 'Captain Inclusive Druckmann' got a bit carried away with that one. The game was much better for two reasons for me, the incredible voice acting and the fact you're more involved because you're driving the action.
@@abominablesnowman64 Cause they aren't using spores? They went with tendrils, which was an early game concept. Concept material is still original source material, especially if Druckmann was involved with the decision
@@abominablesnowman64 I don't see how it's not faithful. Outside of some location changes and the odd new idea here and there, the first episode was basically the first few hours of TLOU.

I’m for sure a fan. Who else came to TH-cam searching for episode one and instead, decided to watch the games little movie instead? This is put together so well it’s awesome!!
no one is talking about how Joel put himself infront of Ellie when they had to swim and that big rock was gonna hit ellie. That shows how much Joel would risk his life for Ellie. 1:15:05
Can I just say that the fireflies had no idea what they were doing with Ellie and probably wouldn’t have made a “vaccine” (which doesn’t work with fungal infections) anyway. So like, Joel didn’t know but he was very much in the right
Joel is right because, as Kant said, it's never okay to use a person as a means to an end instead of an end in of themself. Whenever you kill someone for "the greater good," it's possible it will be for nothing which is what makes it so wrong
I think vaccine is a weird way of putting it but what I understood was that you can only get infected with cordyceps once amd the fungus prevents any subsequent infection because that would just be competition. Since the mutant version that infected Ellie was not pathogenic, she was basically immune. So all they would have to do is extract this variant and find a way to make it infect other people. So functionally a vaccine, but not in the sense of having anything to do with our immune system.
@@sivad1025 What if someone doesn't mind shouldering that evil deed? Would the people that can live in an immune world afterward have any moral culpabilities? Or can they now live in peace while savoring the end that Ellie was the means for?
@@kebrongurara1612 Ellie could sacrifice her life (although, I'm not sure how I feel about a teenager making that decision on shoddy information--still questionable), but you're right that someone else could shoulder the moral guilt. Would everyone have guilt? I don't think so. We all profit off of evil deeds, the most obvious being slavery which was used to build every single civilization on the planet. We would all be guilty of a whole lot if guilt transferred to anyone who profits from an evil deed, wittingly or not

Holy fuck I didn't think the graphics would be that big of a deal, but that scene of Sarah dying hasn't hit me like that in a long time. Like a fucking ton of bricks. Those facial expressions...
Watching this video right after I finished my first TLOU playthrough and I'm so thankful it's here. The gameplay can sometimes take me out of these moments, and rewatching all the cutscenes really helps me appreciate the game. Thanks for uploading!!
and i was wondering throughout watching this how someone who had just watched the show only or havent played the games would think watching this. happy to hear you enjoyed it just as much man
They did an amazing job with creating a Joel prior to the outbreak totally juxtaposing the Joel 20 years later. He had a glow in his face before. He showed love, panick and anguish. 20 years later, he looks so hardened and mean and full of hatred. A shell of the man he once was. Finding Ellie and bonding with her, his old self from 20 years ago slowly but surely found it's way out and it was like he was given a second chance 😭
1:37:29 This scene resonates with me like no other along with when Ellie tells Sam her fear. Too many people I've lost or just lost touch with them. For me, Ive developed a fear of getting close with anyone.
The first time I played this game, at the end of the game, when you are holding Ellie, I forgot that you could run. For that entire section i walked with ellie in my arms and it was 1000000x more epic as the guards close in and point their weapons at you. That should have been the default.
I’ve never noticed it before, but when they get the truck, they tell Ellie to keep her foot on the clutch to pop start it. When it fires up, she throws it into gear from a column gear selector, not a manual shifter.
Here after EP 2. i hope so much in the next EP we see the car scene with ellie driving and joel/bill pushing and infected coming! that'd be such a good scene! And I bet the final scene of EP 3 is where they get attacked/hit by the bus by the hunters
@@chroyoku it was weird, but honestly the change wasn’t that bad. The character still died but the narrative around that character was completely different.
I replayed this game after finishing TLOU Part 2 and I have to say I'm surprised Joel hasn't met his end sooner. He murdered so many people who had families and their own communities. He shot the leader of a terrorist group in cold blood. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Still breaks my heart though.
Watched this animation during COVID-19 pandemic. It's so moving realizing that COVID-19 could be a prelude of something like this to happen. The character development of Ellie is also nerve wracking.
this channel needs more subs, only channel ive seen make this run through of the game so well. and keeps original songs and audio in left behind too. amazing
I watched during corana times and now, after watching the movie for it, am amazed at how they were able to stick to the game script. Some of the dialogues, action play all, bravo. One of the best apocalypse game and shows..
yes, a story best delivered through actual interactions with the characters like in a video game. that's why i'm nervous as hell that HBO might mess up the show.
Just played the game for the 5th time. It's my all time favourite game and a game that changed the landscape of gaming for me and I'm sure many others.. The emotional side of the game and the connection you make with the characters because of how beautifully the story is written and how you can empathise with the two main protagonists took gaming to a new level. Ashley and Troy's wonderful voice acting magnified the emotion in the script. I'm sure many Dads who had a daughter around that age and every daughter who played the game connected so strongly with Ellie and Joel. Probably why the second game was a difficult play for certain players. The closest game to get anywhere near this for me was 'Days Gone', but I'm sure there are others. By the way thanks so much for putting this together, it's really appreciated.
All these emotions after this last "okay"... Scenarists and all the staff are true geniuses !!! And this music... I listened the whole credits... All these brought tears out of my eyes like no other movie, game or song. I can't resist, I don't wan't to resist. They are part of my family since I played remastered on PS4. This optimised version is wonderfull. I'll buy it when I'll finish weeping in my hands... Love.

When Joel lied to Ellie at the final scene it was heartbreakingly beautiful. So utterly human. What a way to bookend the story.

1:38:00 crazy how this game is so much better than most shows. Completely animated characters can draw more emotion than real life people. Wow
It's motion captured. It's exactly how the actors acted.
@@khoado2060 I understand that, I've seen the behind the scenes. However, you have to realize that motion capture is essentially an alignment tool. IMO the emotion is captured in the facial details, that animators spend hours fine tuning.

Omg, Joel lost his daughter the day after his birthday. I didn't realize that until I saw this clip again; Sarah giving her dad a watch bc it's his bday. Oh my.

Dude, that didn't even feel close to 3 hours. Absolute masterpiece as the time I played it.
1:59:08 this shows hom much Ellie loves Joel. She is sleeping on the cold floor just to make Joel comfortable, and she is trying so hard to keep Joel alive. She is such a hero
I am shocked how dedicated to the original script the tv show is.
Shocked as in not at all?
Wonderful job... edited out fight scenes, no personal commentary, inclusion of all the game credits. Professionally done and a joy to watch. Thank you.
That ending man.
“Swear to me that everything you that said about the fireflies is true”
“I swear”
“Okay…”
And we were left like that for seven years… the ending was so perfect it could have just been the only one ever made.
Gj with the spoiler dickhead
@@chilliinsanity6898 Lmao average Tlou 2 enjoyer spotted
They could’ve probably had Joel around longer in TLOU but honestly everyone should’ve known he was gonna die looking back at it now. Despite not wanting him to die, it’s a necessary death towards the story.
thanks for this spoiler
My predictions for the rest of tlou episodes.
Ep 7: A adaptation of the Left Behind DLC, ending with Ellie meeting David. ending scene: 1:51:32
Ep 8: Ellie meets David and fights with him, Joel struggles to gain strength, but in the end he kills The cannibals and finds Ellie after she kills David, and calls her Baby Girl . Ending scene: 2:11:57
Ep 9: Ellie and Joel arrive at the firefly hospital, Joel wakes up and finds out they are gonna kill Ellie. The rest is an action packed episode with Joel going badass. After taking Ellie they arrive back in Jackson with the iconic "I swear" scene. The screen fades to black and the series ends. Ending :2:34:09
lemme know if im right
With how much they’re changing, I just hope they keep the interrogation scene and Ellie mauling David. It seems like they’ve cut back excessively on the violence so it makes me doubt it will happen. Also, with how broken they’ve made Joel, I don’t see the hospital playing out how it does either
are they gonna introduce riley next season then? cause they already announced storm reid for the series makes me think shed have to be in season 1

Can’t wait to see the Henry/Sam story arc in the show. Such a tragic game, it’s gonna be such a great show.

I love how much this plays like an actual movie! the hype and awards and such definitely make sense. This must've taken some time to create I imagine so thanks!

Man, better than anything I've seen in a cinema over the last couple of years. And they say video games aren't art.
For me the game is better than the series
The series doesn’t do any justice for the game honestly. The game will always be better.
@@rael1999 I agree I wish they would have casted Somone that looked more like her

Episode 1 and 2 r out so far
I wish he had left the dialogue about the ice cream truck, but other than that this was great to watch
1:11:22 just realized the reason Henry thought Ellie wasn't bothered by the world was because Ellie truly believed a cure was gonna be made :(
no one is talking about how Joel put himself infront of Ellie when they had to swim and that big rock was gonna hit ellie.

1:50:30 I know you have to suspend disbelief, but she wouldn’t last a day with those shoes in snow
I can tell you’re playing on hard mode by Tess telling Joel to make his shots count, good play through
They did an amazing job with creating a Joel prior to the outbreak totally juxtaposing the Joel 20 years later.

The first time I played this game, at the end of the game, when you are holding Ellie, I forgot that you could run. For that entire section i walked with ellie in my arms and it was 1000000x more epic as the guards close in and point their weapons at you. That should have been the default.
You're meaning to tell me I could have been running THE WHOLE TIME?
So many hours of my childhood wasted because I couldn't make it to that elevator.
I’ve never noticed it before, but when they get the truck, they tell Ellie to keep her foot on the clutch to pop start it. When it fires up, she throws it into gear from a column gear selector, not a manual shifter.
