Finances can be complex. They could have staked the equity in their house to support financing at J Willy's. J Willy's closes, house has to be sold as collateral. Not the first time we've heard of that on the show.
Because all the money is tied up in making J. Willy's work. If it goes bust they owe a shit ton in debts that they can't pay off. They can't just wash their hands of the failing business and forget the debt. They'd likely have to declare bankruptcy, which would result in the other business being sold off to cover their debts.

@@Mike-kr5dn Oh hey, good timing. Two years since my grandma's funeral. We went to the most popular place in the city, and I got a steak sandwich. It was just a well done piece of beef on a plain bun. I asked for gravy, it was the powdered stuff. It was a pretty rough few days.
If gordon came in and sat down to eat I'd cancel my order and leave or if I already had the food I'd not eat it/stop eating it, pay, and leave. If he's there then likely the restaurant is grade A garbage and probably going to be on kitchen nightmares
I think that for his newer shows like 24 hours to hell and back (which is the modern equivalent of kitchen nightmares) he goes undercover so people don't recognize him but if I did I would freak out for sure
I actually feel bad for the woman crying over the food. I think it's much more likely that rather than being a drama queen she was going through a really shitty time and that bad food was just the last straw. Could be it was the one thing she was looking forward to and when you get bad food at a restaurant, it can be pretty soul crushing in it's own way.
I always love seeing the kitchen staff’s faces light up when Chef Ramsey is showing them how to cook new dishes or simplify the classics. Most workers want to feel inspired and just need a bit of motivation from a passionate leader but so many restaurant owners and managers lack this skill.
Oh gosh I was so sorry for the couple. They looked both so heartbroken. And the kids part, they both so clearly wanted it, and the man was literally crying for not being able to give them to her just because of the restaurants failing. I am so happy that for at least a while in the end they found a way to all work together and support each other and get the success.
*Update on the J Willy's restaurant:* The restaurant closed (2009) after a few weeks from this filmed episode in 2008. *Reason:* Increased food prices and lower customer amounts.
*plot twist* its all a scam for gordon to buy up restraunts on the cheap after he redesigns, brings in a quick influx of business by HIM being there, then offering a lowball sum for the place after he leaves😂
Of course it did. They ALL do. Haven't Googled a single episode that had a surviving restaurant. Sad all of the money Gordon's people used just goes to waste.
I'm not American so i dont know how it work there but here in Canada we have health inspector that visit restaurants on regular basis to make sure that kitchens are always clean and that the food is fresh.
Same in Denmark, and we have a report on the door, or at least somewhere visible, so all customers know what problems have been going on. They come unexpected too, so it's not about having a bad day either, they could show up one day out of nowhere, and truthfully, the day after. If something has been found, that isn't supposed to be there, they'll also fine the owners.
and in Europe we have a system called HAACP, which every food farmers/butchers, etc. every restaurant/hotel/motel etc. has to follow, it's basically a daily checked system of everything that you have to do. We can also follow produces through their whole journey, so we can analyze where did the problem happen. also we have GHP (Good Hygiene Protocol) which ensures that every surface is cleaned with appropriate things to kill all the bacteria on it.
also, I really doubt that health inspectors would "make sure" that the food is fresh. they don't do that, it's none of their business. They only have to make its sure not cross contaminated, and everything is in "order", like cutting boards for ex. have to be colored to what we can chop on it - fish, blue vegetables/fruits - green meat - red general purpose is white, but white can also be meat
Update: J Willy’s BBQ closed on February 4th 2009, which was less than a year after the J Willy’s Kitchen Nightmares episode aired on TV (and almost exactly a year after the actual visit from Gordon Ramsay). Unfortunately, Gordon Ramsay’s changes weren’t enough to save the restaurant. I think Gordon Ramsay knew the chances weren’t good, because he only said that the restaurant had a “glimmer of hope” at the end of the episode. That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement from Gordon Ramsay of the business’s future prospects! Honestly, no matter what Gordon Ramsay did, I don’t think J Willy’s BBQ House ever had a chance to overcome its massive debt.
Can we just talk about how Gordon is always so kind and respectful to the servers. No matter what happens. Legit. Like it's so pure to see and I love it. Cause yeah servers get a ton of shit for stuff that legit not at all their fault. And I think it's amazing how he recognizes that
you should watch the documentary about Gordon Ramsey when he was opening his first restaurant. He fired one of his waiters for not having polished his shoes.
I agree! It’s their responsibility to ensure he’s holding up his end of the bargain. Like you’re watching it fail and not making it a priority to fix. She said she wouldn’t feed it to her dog??? THATS YOUR RESTAURANT DUMMY 😅
The most chills and back laid kitchen nightmare I ever seen. -The staff and owner not talking back (at least not insanely or even none) -they accept their position -they trying their best to improve -know they ask gordon to HELP and ready to get smack none like 99% of the restaurant I seen on kitchen nightmare.
I've never seen a restaurant with a huge sign indoors saying: "Those attending are asked not to cuss, brawl or throw chairs. All disagreements must be settled outside." Wonder went on there LOL 13:10
I can't really agree. John was there to run the restaurant. The couple lived 3.5 hours away and ran another restaurant. It's not like they were sitting on their asses not helping. John's job was to run the restaurant and he was failing, even with the advice of the couple running a successful restaurant. The staff were very misguided in their frustration, my guess is John was blaming it on them.

Gordon Ramsay is 10%, chef, 90% therapist
A good chef knows how to take care of their team, and the restaurant industry can be very difficult on someone's mental health.
And now a priest!
Gordon Ramsay is:
- 10%
- A chef
- 90% a therapist
I’m sorry, but my first thought was, “why are you going to be homeless? Even if Willy’s fails don’t they have the second one to run? And if the second restaurant is failing too, maybe it’s not JUST Jon’s fault?
Finances can be complex. They could have staked the equity in their house to support financing at J Willy's. J Willy's closes, house has to be sold as collateral. Not the first time we've heard of that on the show.
Lose your business, your money, your house which was underlying loan for restaurant, your credit rating->homelessness
Because all the money is tied up in making J. Willy's work. If it goes bust they owe a shit ton in debts that they can't pay off. They can't just wash their hands of the failing business and forget the debt. They'd likely have to declare bankruptcy, which would result in the other business being sold off to cover their debts.
The owners: "Hope he likes it."
Gordon: "Ghastly."
Gordon: Your ribs were bad
Owner: Well, we sell a lot of them
Gordon: Oh really, sorry about this tv show nonsense then, it seems there was a mistake, from the fact this business is basically bankrupt we were under the impression you didn't

What Happened Next at J Willy's? (Closed)
In the weeks that followed they kept Gordon's changes. They won first prize at the College Football Hall of Fame ribs cook-off with their signature barbecue sauce. Yelp reviews after filming are mixed. J Willy's closed on 4th February 2009. With food prices increasing and customers decreasing, they had the choice of cutting the quality or closing. A coffee shop opened in its place but this also closed. The building was demolished in 2015. Rick and Tricia also closed their restaurant Damon's Grill and Rick is now working in restoring and selling classic cars. J Willy's aired on October 30 2008, the episode was filmed in February 2008 and is Kitchen Nightmares season 2 episode 5.UR WELCOME

If gordon came in and sat down to eat I'd cancel my order and leave or if I already had the food I'd not eat it/stop eating it, pay, and leave. If he's there then likely the restaurant is grade A garbage and probably going to be on kitchen nightmares
I would start looking for cameras or if he talks to the owners or himself. If not, then everything is fine.

I think that for his newer shows like 24 hours to hell and back (which is the modern equivalent of kitchen nightmares) he goes undercover so people don't recognize him but if I did I would freak out for sure
Start praying he's come back to visit the restaurant for one of those special episodes they do every now and then.

@@divcee6772 Hahahahahahaha.
I mean.... That's NOT bad plan.
I'm not American so i dont know how it work there but here in Canada we have health inspector that visit restaurants on regular basis to make sure that kitchens are always clean and that the food is fresh.
At least to make sure the food won't kill you.
There’s a lot that can go wrong between visits, and a lot that can be hidden.
and in Europe we have a system called HAACP, which every food farmers/butchers, etc. every restaurant/hotel/motel etc. has to follow, it's basically a daily checked system of everything that you have to do.

Update:
J Willy’s BBQ closed on February 4th 2009, which was less than a year after the J Willy’s Kitchen Nightmares episode aired on TV (and almost exactly a year after the actual visit from Gordon Ramsay).
Yup they were already too gone, it I hope they took this info to their other restaurant, and other restaurants follow suit on suggestions
The big liability was John Willy.
Wasn’t bbq

Can we just talk about how Gordon is always so kind and respectful to the servers. No matter what happens. Legit. Like it's so pure to see and I love it. Cause yeah servers get a ton of shit for stuff that legit not at all their fault. And I think it's amazing how he recognizes that
