    Hi, I've had the 1914 for about 6 years now I love it !! Bought it from a woman whom husband had gifted to her it for their 1st wedding anniversary the year it came out. It came with every attachment it originally came with & was in pristine condition. The only thing I've had to replace was a belt on the right side,but that was a easy fix for me. I have a Brother computerized machine which I enjoy as well, but I find myself greatful having the kenmore as well !! I will always cherish it !! The only thing I havent tried thus yet, is the buttonhole attachment & this chain stitch adapter, I have one ? For you if you wouldn't mind, could I lower the feed dogs while using this chain stitch adapter? I hand embroider & I use the chain stitch at times to embroider a name in a cursive font, so I thought hmmm, using the thicker top stitching thread like you used I could use it to embroider a name on the machine and get a perfect stitch per say ? Definitely cool to see this adapter used !! Have you used the embroidery attachment & cams yet ? It performs beautifully!! I've watched your other videos of you doing embroidery on this machine which I might practice with at some point. Right now I'm quilting & I enjoy topstitching my quilt better on my Kenmore than my brother for several reasons. This machine is just so beautiful and everything was made with so much thought & the quality is just beyond !! Thanks for sharing!!🥳

    I did a blog post like this where I compared chain stitching on a Kenmore 1774 and a Singer 600. My conclusion is that it is easier to set up the Kenmore for chain stitching but the actual stitching is nicer on the Singer. Also, with the Singer you can chain off the fabric but it doesn't work with the Kenny.

    Thank you for this video! Just inherited a singer 431g and wanted to try out the chain stitch. But my chain stitch looks terrible on the back side. The loops get way too big. I tried adjusting the thread tension but it helped only to a certain point. It’s still not as good as yours. Any idea about what I can adjust?

    • @jamesrogers991
      @jamesrogers991  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The length of the chain stitch on the G machines cannot be too long. 10-12 stitches per inch or 2 - 2.5 mm. That should fix it. If not, make sure that you also have the thread travelling into the loop half way up the machine near the takeup lever. That loop tightens the stitch.

    Thanks so much for your videos. Very informative. I got the kenmore 19141 a few days ago. Do you mind if ask for the kind of thread that you used for demonstration?

    • @jamesrogers991
      @jamesrogers991  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used nothing fancy for thread. It is just polyester topstitching thread for the thick demonstration, and polyester 40 weight thread for the standard demonstration.

      One more time. Thanks so much. Do you may if ask, have you ever tried a heavier thread for chain stitch with this machine? TIA

    • @jamesrogers991
      @jamesrogers991  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@giovaandino22 The heaviest thread that I have used is the top stitching thread I demonstrated in the video. Beyond this, I have not tried heavier because the machines begin to grumble. Double thread chain stitch on the coverstitch machine might work better with heavier thread.

    How are the parts coming for the 431G?

  • @jlbeeen
    @jlbeeen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the same Kenmore machine, and had no idea it could do that! I have to see if I can find that part in the little desk thing that it came in. I know I have all the cams and the monogrammer, as well as a little oil can, but I'm still figuring it out after getting it back from a tune up.

    I've watched 3 videos on chain stitching now and you have NEVER referenced the set screw on the chain stitch adapter that fits where the bobbin is. What is that screw for?

    • @jamesrogers991
      @jamesrogers991  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will check when I get back home in a week. I seem to recall that there is a screw on the Kenmore adapter which enabled an adjustment to hold the adapter on the shaft.

    • @jamesrogers991
      @jamesrogers991  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The screw tightens the spring which holds the adapter in place on the Kenmore. If the attachment is loose, then the screw can be used to help it stay in place.

    Do you have an extra chain stitch set for the 431G? I need one and can't find one :(

      The chain stitch plates for the 411G and 431G are super rare. I have only the one. I hope to have some good news soon for you and others on the hunt for the elusive plates. I am testing a 3d printed plate at present. I am getting close to a usable result -- I will be posting a video soon when it works smoothly.

      @@jamesrogers991 - okay, here's everything: Any idea what I might be doing wrong if the top thread somehow gets looped over the bobbin spindle inside and jams the needle and thread? I think it's the top thread but not sure since both top and bobbin were same color.
      A second problem: I was sewing smoothly but when done, I raised the presser foot, tried to pull the threads to cut, it wouldn't move - seemed like bobbin thread was caught on something and had to cut right near needle and re-thread. Any idea why that would happen?
      final question: the feed dogs move smoothly with the hand wheel or foot pedal but when I lower the feed dog control/release lever, the feed dogs just sit in the up position. Is that normal or are they supposed to drop when you lower that lever?
      I can take a video, the next time it jams and try to post it to youtube, have never done that before. Thanks for any advice/ideas :)

      @@tdyates2500 We need to start with a thread/tension test. Thread the machine with the presser foot lifted.With the presser foot still up, pull the thread through the needle gently towards the side or back about 30cm/12in worth -- is it smooth coming off of the spool? Now repeat with the thread tension set to 3 but with the presser foot down. Do you feel tension?
