    Thanks! I have a 600E that my old neighbor threw to the curb when they moved. It was missing the pedal, all the accessories, manual, and the poor thing was locked up. I bought a replacement pedal and cleaned and oiled her up, now she sews like a champ. I have been lucky to find boxes of all the cams and buttonhole accessory but didn’t know about the chain stitch attachments until I found a box of various parts at an estate sale yesterday for $5. I’m so glad I found your video thanks for the info.

      You're welcome! and what a find! The 600E is one of the better Touch & Sews. Enjoy sewing with her! 🙂

    This was awesome!! Thank you 😊 Will chainstitching work on the Singer T&S # 758?

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know all the Touch & Sews can chainstitch. You do have to have the chainstitching accessories though. I found a manual for the 758 here: www.manualslib.com/manual/581483/Singer-Touch-And-Sew-758.html . Hope that helps. 🙂 Thanks for watching!

    Great video. I didn't even know it could do a chain stitch. Which models of the Touch & Sew machines had the built in threader? Thanks

    • @jdhtyler
      @jdhtyler ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our Singer 760 has a built in threader hidden inside the door covering the needle bar. The extra thread guide for chain stitch is built in; you just need to change the needle plate and in my case install a clear plastic bobbin case cover.

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi AnneSummers09, I think most of the Touch & Sews have some form of built in needle threader. It's usually tucked away inside the face plate. They aren't all air threaders though. Some are just metal arms that swing out. The best thing to do is check your manual or google your model. Thanks for watching! :D

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi JDHTyler, I bet the fact that it's built in makes the chainstitch thread guide easier to use. The one for the 640, my machine, is a tricky little bleep. Lol! Thanks for watching :D

  • @ronalddaub9740
    @ronalddaub9740 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have that machine basically and I also have the attachment to do a chain stitch on a touch and sew.. it it's all for sale unless I fix the machine
    It needs the typical touch and Sew gear replacement.😮

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no... 😟 I think AndyTube might have a video on replacing gears. Might be worth checking to see if it's an easy fix. It would be a shame if you sold it before you've had a chance to play with the chainstitch.

  • @alfredklek
    @alfredklek ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Huh, interesting. I was taught that chain stitching was the antiquated, inferior way that the first sewing machines worked. I didn't realise that anyone actually wanted to do it voluntarily. What do you use chain stitching for? You've got me thinking that this was some kind of 19th century smear campaign by Singer and White against chain stitch machine manufactures . Thanks for another nice video.

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol... although... I wouldn't put it past them! Chainstitch is useful as a temporary stitch. You can use it for machine basting (tacking) because it's a lot easier to pull out than a lockstitch. It also has more flexibility and is stronger than a lockstitch. However, it's restricted to just a chain whereas lockstitch can be straight or zigzag. 😀.

    I have a Juki HZL-923 (year 1976) vintage domestic machine that does lockstich and chainstitch without replacing or attaching a part. It has a special kind of bobbincase and a looper that makes the chainstitch just by flipping a switch. Til now, I cant find a proper tutorial on it or a manual since it is an old Japanese model. I also cant find any application for the chainstitch since it is done at the backside view. Other than as decorative stitch on jean hems, I dont know what else is its advantages..
    I can use the machine's chainstitch with a bobbin or without a bobbin.. but without the bobbin looks better and is easily removable.

    • @SimplyStitchy
      @SimplyStitchy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Chainstitch is good for tacking or basting things together. So - you can use it to make wearable mock ups and still be able to take them apart easily to adjust for fit. You might want to check Facebook for a group on vintage Jukis, they may know where to get the manual. Or contact Juki. Some manufacturers still have access to the manuals for their older models. Thanks for watching. 🙂

      As far as I know the Singer 15-91 is lock stitch only. However, it can do both darning and free motion embroidery. If you check out page 35 in this manual ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/manuals/15-91.pdf it'll show you how to deactivate the feed dogs. Thanks for watching 🙂

    Chainstitch for my wife bought a Singer 760 which also capable of a very long "basting stitch" up to 2 inch between stitches.
    The a broken Singer 631 all metal gears came up for sale which was what I wanted but they seemed very expensive in 2022 (I had to remove the hidden capacitor in the motor windings)
    Sad bit is my wife does not bother using a chain stitch ? but she did by an (UK made Essex miniature sewing machine) for herself because it was cute and in a nice case ? but she does not use it however I do, it is quite relaxing, task still to do is polish the hell out of the very rough hook with a felt pad and compound.

    • @SimplyStitchy

      All metal gears does seem to put the price of Touch & Sews up a little bit higher. I'm not familiar with the Essex Miniature Sewing Machine... but I bet it is super cute and a joy to work with! Thanks for watching :D
