Gordon looks like he’s an amazing training partner. His fluidity and situational awareness greatly reduces risk of injury for both parties even when he tends to be heavier than most of his training partners.
Rolling with Gordon is an odd experience. He frequently will just let you do what you want (like he did several times here) and barely do anything at all to defend. But he knows exactly how much danger he's in at any given moment and will sometimes basically give you a submission just to practice getting out of it. Then he starts to move and suddenly you're cooked lol.
I mean, doesn't everyone who's been practicing for a little while do that? The only difference is that Gordon is able to do that to the best of the best.

Outside that they flow around most of the time putting themselves in worse positions not fighting hard for every position and sub and work out of stuff. This is the diff between Gym Kings and Winning Competitors. Sparring ain't comp and the fact gordon ryan taps in training and ends up in bad positions shows how ur supposed to train

He’d just won his first EBI in 2016 and could’ve chilled, but he rolled for 90 mins straight. Was the last one off the mats. Ton of upper belts too. I just got my brown belt and he rolled through me and a handful of other brown and black belts super calm and chill the whole session. Nicky rolled a little harder, but still let himself get in some trouble.
Dorian is a beast. And very clever of him not to affiliate himself with any one team. Now he can train all over and absorb technique from all the best guys. Good stuff.
One thing I see in this roll that I will for sure have to start working on is Gordon's sustained pressure over time on the torso and neck. You can tell from Dorian's breathing that there is a ton of pressure ALWAYS being applied in Gordon's movements. And that wears you down even when you are a monster like Dorian.

That was friggin brilliant, the match I never knew I wanted or thought would ever come. Dorian is a super tough kid, incredible to see him with Gordon, and reckon in a tournament he'd give him more trouble than his normal heavy weight opponents. Gordon proves he can hold him down. Really impressed by both of their JJs here. Thanks for making this happen.

the kimura trap sequence starting at around 5:28, is what I love about the top guys - does not always have to be flashy but just perfectly timed. A buddy once told me years ago when berimbolos were the rage, that the flashy shit starts around mid blue and lasts to about mid brown, but when you get to black belts it is back to fundamentals. Not sure that is true per se, but I like to think it is.

Gordon is really the Roger Gracie of right now. No crazy inverting or anything. Just moved at a slow and methodical pace and just simply does better jiujitsu than you. He beats you at every movement. Hate the guys personality or not but if your a fan of BJJ you enjoy watching him train and compete

Training at two of the best schools in Texas, and only thing that gets better than that is you will get better

What control and finesse by Gordon though. I know there’s the weight difference, but he’s a master at what he does - demonstrated beautifully here.

I'm not a fan of the way of Gordon's online social media personality, but his training videos are pure legit and I've learned a ton of great lessons and techniques through them. Cheers all.
