Dude has always been respectful with his partners, always. Amazing degree of self-confidence and no ego.
Yeah man watching some other bjj gyms I’d feel scared to get injured going there to train, with Gordon I’d feel safe and could really put all my efforts into learning not defending myself from getting injured.
The casual armbar escapes are uncalled for

Casual, in a way. He had a huge size advantage and it really helped him muscle out of the armbar. Not that the kid would ever get to that position if Gordon were really trying...
He escaped Craig Jones armbar, it’s mostly technique he is using strength of course helps…

Gordon's great don't get me wrong, but the guy's like 2 Dorians. Ofcourse Dorian felt the pressure.
One minute at dorians pace and I would be still trying to Catch my breath a week later.
So would GR I think, the way he moves slow yet so controlled is a huge difference maker against these young athletes
Rolling with Gordon is an odd experience. He frequently will just let you do what you want (like he did several times here) and barely do anything at all to defend. But he knows exactly how much danger he's in at any given moment and will sometimes basically give you a submission just to practice getting out of it. Then he starts to move and suddenly you're cooked lol.
I mean, doesn't everyone who's been practicing for a little while do that? The only difference is that Gordon is able to do that to the best of the best.
@ayasugihada I've rolled with a lot of high level guys and no one did it even close to that extent. He's the only one who just me do what I want and it just didn't work. Then I came to the realization that he was already halfway to my back and it was too late lol
Gordon can do this with the best in the world to a point we would consider no return or check mate. I assumed he was about to tap to 2 arm bars because he intentionally let it go so deep and then he just casually escapes 😂
@@danieldelanoche2015 Thats how nearly all the DDS trained under danaher when i trained with them at renzos. They start in terrible positions and work their way out and get tapped a lot. Outside that they flow around most of the time putting themselves in worse positions not fighting hard for every position and sub and work out of stuff. This is the diff between Gym Kings and Winning Competitors. Sparring ain't comp and the fact gordon ryan taps in training and ends up in bad positions shows how ur supposed to train
@@REXAZOR100%. I rolled with Gordon and Nicky Ryan and it was exactly like that. Gordon let me put him in some deep water and then worked his way out. He’d just won his first EBI in 2016 and could’ve chilled, but he rolled for 90 mins straight. Was the last one off the mats. Ton of upper belts too. I just got my brown belt and he rolled through me and a handful of other brown and black belts super calm and chill the whole session. Nicky rolled a little harder, but still let himself get in some trouble.
Gordon looks like he’s an amazing training partner. His fluidity and situational awareness greatly reduces risk of injury for both parties even when he tends to be heavier than most of his training partners.

Which is even more hilarious when you realize Craig pays more in one tournament than the whole new wave salary (outside of gordon and danaher) combined.

What control and finesse by Gordon though. I know there’s the weight difference, but he’s a master at what he does - demonstrated beautifully here.

Dorian is a beast. And very clever of him not to affiliate himself with any one team. Now he can train all over and absorb technique from all the best guys. Good stuff.
One thing I see in this roll that I will for sure have to start working on is Gordon's sustained pressure over time on the torso and neck. You can tell from Dorian's breathing that there is a ton of pressure ALWAYS being applied in Gordon's movements. And that wears you down even when you are a monster like Dorian.
Gordon’s armbar escape was so beautiful man
Not really, Dorian is half his weight, he could barely straighten Gordan's arm, makes it much easier to escape.

This isn't Dorian 11/10. He's going harder than Gordon, but don't pretend there's that big of a difference just so you can blow your favorite celebrity. There's a lot of control shown by both.
Dorian is a lot smaller than cordon obliviously you need to work harder when you are a smaller one like significantly smaller

Gordon always seems like a tremendous training partner
That was friggin brilliant, the match I never knew I wanted or thought would ever come. Dorian is a super tough kid, incredible to see him with Gordon, and reckon in a tournament he'd give him more trouble than his normal heavy weight opponents. Gordon proves he can hold him down. Really impressed by both of their JJs here.

I like watching B-Team's content, and I like what they're doing with CJI.... but if I was a high level competitor, I'd 100% rather train at New Wave. Gordon may be a bit cringy online, but they dude is a great teacher and training partner, and doesn't risk injury in training.
Appreciate the fact that Gordo was all control and never used power of strength to get subs. Crazy. Also, he never puts his full weight on top to crush the little bro.
1:11 - when you see the king rolling real close to you, you and your training partner not only stop your roll but get up and walk to the other end of the mat to then continue. Respect.

I'm more impressed with Dorian here. I know Gordon was taking it easy but he still did really well against the ADCC Absolute champ.
Gordon is really the Roger Gracie of right now. No crazy inverting or anything. Just moved at a slow and methodical pace and just simply does better jiujitsu than you. He beats you at every movement. Hate the guys personality or not but if your a fan of BJJ you enjoy watching him train and compete

This kid Dorian is doing that trained at b team with killers who can wrestle and now training with two of the greats in nick and Gordon Ryan with the greatest coach doesn’t get any better than that. Training at two of the best schools in Texas, and only thing that gets better than that is you will get better

the kimura trap sequence starting at around 5:28, is what I love about the top guys - does not always have to be flashy but just perfectly timed. A buddy once told me years ago when berimbolos were the rage, that the flashy shit starts around mid blue and lasts to about mid brown, but when you get to black belts it is back to fundamentals. Not sure that is true per se, but I like to think it is.
