    Helpful for me, thank you! Didn't really know why some stamps are bent...now it makes sense. Also will try tapping rather than whacking!! Thanks.

      You can try with one good "whack" as well. Get some practice pieces, maybe copper. Try one hammer vs. the "tap - tap - tap" method I showed. Let my know how it works Shelly.

    Good video. But how do you stamp a hallmark on a ring that is made from half round wire?

    • @DougNapierJewelryMonk
      @DougNapierJewelryMonk  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Put it on something that matches the contour of the wire. I use a piece of hardwood that I have ground out a little to the shape and size of the 1/2 round.
      Hope this helps.

    Do you stamp your rings before or after polishing ? Thank you for the video. :)

    • @DougNapierJewelryMonk
      @DougNapierJewelryMonk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Patricia, I do it before polishing, because there is usually a small flat spot or deformation from stamping.

    Hello any advice on how to stamp a half round not to scuff opposite side???!!!!

    • @DougNapierJewelryMonk
      @DougNapierJewelryMonk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paris, stamp on wood, and maybe even grind away a dimple in the wood to conform to the 1/2 round shank.

    I am trying to stamp the inside of a few rings with the curved metal stamp just like in the video. My question is besides holding it with your hand are there any other tools or methods or gadgets whatever to keep the ring in place so you can get the inside of it stamped

    • @DougNapierJewelryMonk
      @DougNapierJewelryMonk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have always just held in place and stamped with my hands, but there is a “jig” that holds the stamp so you can have both hands free to stabilize during stamping. I have one of these jigs, that I have never used. If you are interested, I can sell it to you.

    Hi Doug, how do you go about stamping a silver ring that is thin (say 2mm) and round?

    • @DougNapierJewelryMonk
      @DougNapierJewelryMonk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maria use a small stamp, support it well, and roll the stamp so it all gets imprinted.

    Hi , I am a hobby craft jewellery designer , I am using 999 silver could result any problem , I see if we use 925 they turn black , is there any specific reason for making silver in 925 please share the myths

    • @DougNapierJewelryMonk
      @DougNapierJewelryMonk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NA International, it is and has been an industry standard for a while. The alloy, usually copper based, makes it a little harder and last a while longer if worn daily.
