RING TEXTURES: Brush, Stone, and Hammer Finishes!

  • Shiny rings are nice, but adding textures can create a unique look to a ring! Brush finishes are great for a matte look. Stone finishes can brighten up a ring with deep texturing. Hammer finishes are created by making a bunch of individual hammer indentations around an entire ring.

    You didn’t mention the stretching that occurs when hammering a finish. How do you account for that when you are fabricating the ring to ensure the finished ring is properly sized?

    🔷These were especially popular in the '70's.
    🔶The "brushed" or Florentine Finish peaked in the '50's-early '60's.
    🔷Hammering was big in the '60's.
    🔶The "stone" or Satin Finish was everywhere in the '70's.
    🔷Next I expect the '80's Diamond Cut to come back. 😀

    I got my ex-girlfriend a hammered ring for christmas in 2019, it is a really narrow and overall fragile looking ring and I love how it looks. Still see her wearing it in school, which makes me happy. It really suits her.

    stone finish is by far my favorite. But i have a question is there a finish to make it look like the gold is sparkling? kinda like a bling sparkle? I thought sand blast would actually be it but it isnt since sand blast finish gives off that crater type look. Is there a gold finish that looks like glitter almost?

    • @lilianakovac8537

      Its almost impossible to hammer a ring without making it .25 to .5 size larger. When I make a hammered ring I will usually hammer silver sheet first and then measure out a strip in the exact size I need. That way I always get accurate sizing.

    We have weddingbands with 2 colors of gold and 2 finishes. The white gold is brushed and the rose gold is brushed and hammered. My ring has an additioal lttle diamond in it. Very happy we chose this. This reminds me that the brushing as to be done again because over time the rings get a bit more shiny.

    I agree with this TH-camr, #2 looks real nice on silver in real life. I got a super shiny silver ring which is 8mm in width. Since it's so wide and super shiny it looks cheap and tacky. It kind of looks like a ring made out of aluminum foil. Hard to pull off the look unless you are super avant garde artsy type. So I used a kitchen scrubber at home to achieve #2 look and it's so beautiful.

    Not going to lie I knew about hammered bands. But the brush and stone look are brand new ideas to me. I've always believed that when I do get married I will have to have two sets of rings one for fancy occasion with stone in it and one that's more of an everyday band. Something a little more hard wearing that I can do work around the house in and still have my ring on. I'm very seriously considering this stone look now. Because it is bright and bold in its own way but without the stones or pins to snag on stuff.

    can the ring be refinished over and over again? Is a lot of material lost every time you brush or polish it?

    • @The_Ossifrage
      @The_Ossifrage ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't speak exactly for jewellery, but with metal watches (especially ones made from softer gold) machine polishing is actually discouraged because you can lose the sharp edges and creases on a watch case, and it can really build up if the watchmaker isn't too precise or you polish it too often. That's why polished vintage watches typically sell for much cheaper than mint condition but unpolished ones.
