Sultan Wadood If you are asking if will you lose your files, for 99% of folks the answer is no. If you went out of your way to encrypt your account or files, then I think windows will tell you up front that your actions will result in file loss. Hey, I got to the part where I do the thing with local users and groups but it gives me the message "This snapin may not be used with this edition of Windows 10. To manage user accounts for this computer, use the User Accounts tool in the Control Panel." I wasnt given many options by the panel either. Am I running on top early or to late a version of Windows 10?
Shift+Restart from the Login screen brings up the repair menus. You can get to cmd from there. If the admin account does not display in the login screen, you can edit the registry from cmd.

Extremely helpful! I had tried to activate the admin account from the cmd prompt inside the repair tool, but that never actually did anything. This one worked to unlock the local admin account that I had actually created during installation! This was on Win10 Pro, on a domain-joined PC. I booted to the USB drive I had created using the Media Creation Tool, and it worked great!
CatatonicBug Thanks for your comment! Yeah, a lot of people try to do it from the repair tool, and the reason that doesn’t work is because none of the files that Windows needs to make account changes to are loaded at that point. So when you replace utilman.exe with cmd.exe what you have is the option to open the command prompt window with Windows fully booted up, which runs with system privileges, and then you can basically make any system changes you would like. Anyway, thanks again for leaving a comment and I’m glad to hear that this worked for you!

hey hi i know im asking way later than i was supposed t but i wanted to ask if we can change back the accesability options to normal cause i need sometimes on screen keyboard etc pls reply if u can
U saved my ass on windows 10 home, what i did was, I followed your instructions up until your instructions talk about restoring the account. I only have windows 10 HOME. so what i did was once i was in the administer account i pressed shift+restart, selected system restore, restored to 3 days prior to my screw up deleting a user account, my computer restarted and restored successfully. and my user was restored with everything back to normal!!!
Do not listen to Robet's comment, it still works with windows 10 1905 as both the installed os version and the setup one, i've just done that a few hours ago and had to do e: instead of d: or c: in the cmd part of the setup
Mine is doing something totally different. the option to put in a password is not coming up. Like it normally does. When the image and date screen load up. Normally all I have to do is click space bar to get the password fillout to show up. But all it does when I click space bar is reload up the screen. When I click Esc above I see my sign in in the background but it goes away the second I click off of esc ?! And no option for the keyboard on the screen down below either. I've done a chdsk scan. And nothing. Still shows up. Before this problem happened. I was doing a defrag scan which was taking 4 days just to get to 16%. And I opened a folder up which locked the screen. So I shut down. And this new problem started up.
Quick question. Is the utilman file built in the pc or do I need to downlaod it. And also, is it always in D drive? What would the alternate code be if it was in c drive
Yes, utilman.exe is a Windows file in the Windows\System32 directory. It really all depends on your computer if it will be drive c or d, which is why I found that to be the most difficult thing to explain and I see no pattern to it. What I typically do is start with drive c and type dir and press enter. If you see the Windows directory then that will probably be it. If you don’t try drive d, etc. I have seen it be drive e once, but that was on a server with multiple hard drives. I did make a program a while back to automate all of this, so that may be easier for you, I’m not sure. You’re free to check it out at rmtechcentral.com/LSMC. There are two tutorials on this and I recommended the one titled Official Tutorial. It’s a little more detailed and to the point. Let me know if you need any more help.
Hi Robert in One of the windows 11 machine i couldn't reset admin password as shown in video & in command prompt the directory of x source lists my usb dir files ..doesn't show my windows partitions .I tried soo much by trying list disk ,Tried Booting for Hiren Boot everything was messing up...can u pls hlp me resetting password ..in bios also i didn't find UEFI or legacy options....
Hi I have a question for you I hope that you can help me I've got a windows 10 computer that was given to me and I was in it but I accidently signed out of the other persons account and I don't know the password to get back in how do I get in?
I have 2 disks on my computer both with windows 10 installation and after power outage i cannot access the disk i normally use to work. I can boot with my older windows installation so is it possible to reset password since i can access the disk from this windows installation? I tried to do it with windows console but there is no option to browse to users and local group from the other windows installation.
Hi, I need to backup to the part about putting in the flashdrive. Sorry I am older, so forgive me. I love computers but that part is new to me. I need to get a flashdrive with windows bootup on it? and do I plug in and then turn on? I didn't understand that part.
Hello, your best bet would probably be to try this - lsmc.rmtechcentral.com. It’s a program I made to automate all of this and the tutorial is much easier to understand.
You're welcome! If you didn't rename utilman.exe to utilman.bak before overwriting it with cmd.exe (which I can't remember if I recommended to do that in this video since I made this a quite a long time ago) then you should be able to recover it from the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory. If it doesn't allow you to copy it while in Windows, then you may have to do it from the command prompt while booted from your Windows 10 installation media. Same way as you did the original copy cmd.exe utilman.exe command except copy c:\windows\syswow64\utilman.exe c:\windows\system32, and of course replace the drive letter with the correct one if it is not c:.
I am staked with unknown domain credentials and I also check that my existing local account is not as administrator so, I am getting so much problem. How to resolve it???
Hi, when I open the cmd.exe, doesn't show Source but show ×:\windows\system32. then if I put the comand - net user administrator active:yes it shows that the command completed successfully but then when i exit and go back to the loging still says that my administrator account disabled. Please could you help me? what should I do different?? thanks in advanced
Sir my laptop run by windows to go drive I start the laptop and show administrator down sign in but click on sign in this message below the specified domain does not exist and could not contacted
Okay. I’m not sure why it is saying that, but this video is starting to become slightly dated. There is a link in the description to a new method that I came up with. It’s actually a little program I made to automate most of these steps. It’s free for personal use also. Give it a try and let me know if you need any help. Also, here is a link to the website as well - lsmc.rmtechcentral.com. It is very rare that this hasn’t been able to reset a password for someone. It also gives the option to create new accounts as well and some other things.
On getting a: "HELPMSG 3774" when I do select the correct password, I get an error saying that the profile for that user can not be found. Can I create a folder for that user? I did as you instructed by making Administrator "Active" got all the success prompts, however I can not see the Administrator as an option in the log in screen as shown on your presentation.
This is the updated method that I have recently come up with as for this method is becoming a little dated. >> th-cam.com/video/law8u__C7Ho/w-d-xo.html
I tried to do a reset on my computer which has Windows 10 and it's been giving me the "User failed to sign in" error so now I can't even sign in to Windows. I followed everything in this tutorial, but I still don't see an option anywhere in the screen to login to the Administrator account. It only shows my original one (which gives me that error) yet on CMD it says it is active. Please help :(
Hi I did a factory reset and now my account does not show up and 2 new accounts show up administrator which is disabled and the other one defaultuser0 to which I do not know the password any help?
Robert, sry to bother you but I have a windows 10 desktop and it wouldn't let me reset pw. So I followed other instructions to reboot in safe mode using F5. Well now the screen comes up again. I've reset my Microsoft pw through a platform on my phone. It still shows the pw is incorrect. I wonder if it could be because when I first got the desktop that maybe I changed my name and it won't take any of the recreated pws under the first name? I didn't create a disc and I don't have a flash drive. I need it fixed then I would like to never have to sign in again. I hope you can help me because I need files for a court case or I'm fried.
Unfortunately there is not a way that I know of to accomplish this without being able to make changes to the file system. On a "locked out" computer the only way would be to boot from a disc or USB drive to give you access to the filesystem, or of course pulling the hard drive and sticking it into another computer temporarily (although I don't expect you to do that). Anyway, I don't support the method shown in this video anymore and have moved on to a program I have created to automate most of this. It can be found at lsmc.rmtechcentral.com. The only thing is that it still requires a USB flash drive. How much time do you have before your court case? The reason I am asking is because if you reside in the U.S., I can mail you a flash drive with the program mentioned above preloaded on it. If you have the time for this, send me an email to rmayer0428@gmail.com with your address and I can get that out today possibly.
@@RMTechCentral thanks so much. Sending you an email. Court is next week. I've never used a flash drive before. There maybe another problem. Sending mail. Thank you again.
I did it! Without a flash drive or losing anything! I can't believe it and probably wouldn't remember how to do it just the same again. I remember learning the key boot options and I finally got to the that screen you showed but I didn't have to type in all of that command prompt stuff.
Hi! What if i dont have windows 10 cd coz it was installed upon buying the pc as package they dont provide us the win 10 installation cd. Is there any other possible way to enter safe mode or recovery settings using bios? Tia!
Hey man, so I'm having trouble because it says the user name or password of "administrator" is incorrect. I've been trying some other videos that dont seem to work either, any further direction?
I cant boot into a USB or CD. I can boot into another hard drive with windows and edit the system files of the original. Is there a way to do this trick manually? I also tried the sticky keys trick but it restored the system files that I changed. Please help me
Darkon Ookami Okay, so yeah... if you can boot from a secondary hard drive you should be good. Just get in there and locate the drive letter for your Windows installation, then navigate to the Windows folder and then system32. Find utilman.exe and rename it to utilman.bak if you wish to restore it later, and then make a copy of cmd.exe and rename the copy to utilman.exe. At that point you should be able to reboot the computer from your primary Windows install, click the Ease if Access Center button on the login screen and it should open a command prompt Window. To reset a password type - Net user “username” “newpassword”. If the password cannot be reset if it is a MS account then type - net user “newusername” “newpassword”. This will create a new local account. Then lastly you need to give it admin privileges, so type - net localgroup administrators “accountjustcreated” /add. Let me know if you need more help. Good luck!

am running a windows server2016 on virtual machine on my local pc and i Joined this local pc to DC and now i can't log in to this domain i guess its coz the virtual box is off so the host pc can't reach the DC but the problem is that i can't even log into the local account. please help
Hello, what happens when you try to log into a local account? Does it give you an error? Make sure you are typing .\USERNAME into the username prompt to log in locally.
The updated link in the description would be the best way to go. It is a much cleaner and more refined method. This video is getting quite old and doesn’t work as well as it once did, but I use it to redirect viewers to the new one in the description since it still gets a substantial number of views.
Well I did this my file was corrupt and it kept putting me in a temporary profile so I watched a video and I went into this regedit thing a got rid of the bak thing at the end of the code I did this a couple times nothing had changed so I accidently deleted all the other things there and now I can't get in it says my password is incorrect what do i do
The method presented in this video has become slightly outdated; however, we've developed a program to automate the entire process. There's a free version available for Windows 10 and below, as well as a paid version for Windows 11. Visit www.rmtechcentral.com/lsmc to learn more.

@@RMTechCentral Rset this PC
saved my butt with this video and the other one you posted about msDART
Glad to hear this was a help. Thanks for the comment!
Do not listen to Robet's comment, it still works with windows 10 1905 as both the installed os version and the setup one, i've just done that a few hours ago and had to do e: instead of d: or c: in the cmd part of the setup
Really useful video
Thank you!
thank you so much ..your my HERO. :)
I made a local account switched to it and now I’m locked out because it won’t open how do I get my admin back so I can login
I unfortunately don't have the power option in the log in menu, so is there any other way of doing this?
May i know does it work on domain network. Even the user is not administrator?
I have passwords in my image recover and my command tabs. What do i do then?
I tried this but couldn’t do it. The cmd prompt said “not enough memory to perform actions” or something of the sort.
Thank you Rob.

How do I put the file on the thumb drive if I’m locked out of my pc?
Thanks bro its working
You're welcome. Thanks for leaving a comment!
Thank you!
I got a pc without the administrator acces, would this operation allow me to use the pc without any restriction?
Why won't cmd appear when i type in the navigator button after i've been following your steps process?
what file do you have on the usb you inserted and how can i make one
After this i am stuck at administration lock screen and its asking for a password,
What should i do?
Thanks! but now, how am i supposed to get back my "original" utilman.exe? now it becomes cmd.exe?
He made a backup of the actual utilman.exe by copying it to d:\ (1:16)
@ Okay Ørb!t Thank you. I didn't see your reply until after I responded since apparently TH-cam thought your comment was spam lol.
I am staked with unknown domain credentials and I also check that my existing local account is not as administrator so, I am getting so much problem. How to resolve it???
Nice! thank you
You're welcome!

Do you know if this computer is joined to a domain for a workplace?
No new
Sir Apne CMD kis rare open Kiya open me
Sir without network open ho Jayega administrator
On getting a: "HELPMSG 3774" when I do select the correct password, I get an error saying that the profile for that user can not be found. Can I create a folder for that user? I did as you instructed by making Administrator "Active" got all the success prompts, however I can not see the Administrator as an option in the log in screen as shown on your presentation.
This is the updated method that I have recently come up with as for this method is becoming a little dated.

Please help :(
I changed my pw and it's not recognising the new pw.
This device is lock by an administrator..have any of the administrator sign in and unlock it--- how to unlock this pls help
Hi! What if i dont have windows 10 cd coz it was installed upon buying the pc as package they dont provide us the win 10 installation cd. Is there any other possible way to enter safe mode or recovery settings using bios? Tia!
Try this if you have access to another PC:
th-cam.com/video/AR8IuXnr9Dw/w-d-xo.html
how did you boot in your flashdrive
Hey man, so I'm having trouble because it says the user name or password of "administrator" is incorrect. I've been trying some other videos that dont seem to work either, any further direction?
This would probably be your best bet right here: th-cam.com/video/law8u__C7Ho/w-d-xo.html. Let me know if you have any questions.
Good luck!
@robert mayer I need help I tried to change my administrator password when i went away for a funeral to keep everyone out of my important information and when I got back I can't get in the password I thought I changed it to is wrong and I don't know what to do I need help it's windows ten the hello pin was set up but both pin and password are wrong and I'm not getting a reset password option
am running a windows server2016 on virtual machine on my local pc and i Joined this local pc to DC and now i can't log in to this domain i guess its coz the virtual box is off so the host pc can't reach the DC but the problem is that i can't even log into the local account. please help
Hello, what happens when you try to log into a local account? Does it give you an error? Make sure you are typing .\USERNAME into the username prompt to log in locally.
Well I can't get the administration account to show i factory reset a free PC and am locked out can you help me please?
The updated link in the description would be the best way to go. It is a much cleaner and more refined method. This video is getting quite old and doesn’t work as well as it once did, but I use it to redirect viewers to the new one in the description since it still gets a substantial number of views.
Hi Robert
I deleted administrator account and can't anything else to do Please let me know how to restore and repair Windows 10
*how the hell did you manage to delete the admin account!?*
Well I did this my file was corrupt and it kept putting me in a temporary profile so I watched a video and I went into this regedit thing a got rid of the bak thing at the end of the code I did this a couple times nothing had changed so I accidently deleted all the other things there and now I can't get in it says my password is incorrect what do i do
This video may be outdated for some viewers; in that case I would highly recommend using this method instead: th-cam.com/video/law8u__C7Ho/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much❤
