Sultan Wadood If you are asking if will you lose your files, for 99% of folks the answer is no. If you went out of your way to encrypt your account or files, then I think windows will tell you up front that your actions will result in file loss. If you never see the warning message you should be good.

Hey, I got to the part where I do the thing with local users and groups but it gives me the message "This snapin may not be used with this edition of Windows 10. To manage user accounts for this computer, use the User Accounts tool in the Control Panel." I wasnt given many options by the panel either. Am I running on top early or to late a version of Windows 10?

Shift+Restart from the Login screen brings up the repair menus. You can get to cmd from there. If the admin account does not display in the login screen, you can edit the registry from cmd.

dude i could fucking kiss you. this has been making me tear my hair out for over 18 months (i've picked it up, got frustrated and basically had a very expensive rock sitting in my study for that long). for those who had my issue where windows wanted me to put my password in before i could go into command prompts (ugh) the only way i finally got it to work was to have the windows installation on a usb, boot into that but then go repair my pc, then troubleshoot and command prompts, then follow above for copying command prompts instead of ease of access. and following the rest of the tutorial from there.
just omg, I really didnt want to lose all my files and you've saved me from that im so grateful

    Hey Robert Mayer ,
I just want to say thank you so much for this tool ! I locked myself out of my computer of course and searched on TH-cam for what to do I tried a couple different videos of other users and nothing worked so I called around and went to a couple places asking if they could do it and got quoted 300$ +
I ended up coming back home thinking I was going to have to remember the password regardless of how long it took. I ended up looking on TH-cam again and came across your video .
It worked . I’m logged into my user . I added the second user and switched the settings on mine to not be admin and then changed the password in control panel so a couple extra steps just to save my account . Again thank you so much because I did not think I’d be back on it right now .
I appreciate that you have this information out for people to download free . I think it’s crazy that you offer this and help people out and yet companies charge crazy money . Unless that’s only where I’m from in ottawa Ont. regardless , thank you and I hope me subscribing to your Chanel helps you out !
    Stay safe

Thanks man 👍🏻👍🏻! I was gifted a old Toshiba c-55a with windows 8 from a family member who forgot the password and no longer had any use for it. Backdooring the system32 to run “net user administrator /active:yes” then restart was perfect. I was then able to login under the new “administrator” account and make changes to the pc. I was even able to access said family members files through the hard drive “users” folder and ultimately delete the account all together and make the PC all mine. Cheers🍻

U saved my ass on windows 10 home, what i did was, I followed your instructions up until your instructions talk about restoring the account. I only have windows 10 HOME. so what i did was once i was in the administer account i pressed shift+restart, selected system restore, restored to 3 days prior to my screw up deleting a user account, my computer restarted and restored successfully. and my user was restored with everything back to normal!!!

I tried to do a reset on my computer which has Windows 10 and it's been giving me the "User failed to sign in" error so now I can't even sign in to Windows. I followed everything in this tutorial, but I still don't see an option anywhere in the screen to login to the Administrator account. It only shows my original one (which gives me that error) yet on CMD it says it is active. Please help :(

Extremely helpful! I had tried to activate the admin account from the cmd prompt inside the repair tool, but that never actually did anything. This one worked to unlock the local admin account that I had actually created during installation! This was on Win10 Pro, on a domain-joined PC. I booted to the USB drive I had created using the Media Creation Tool, and it worked great!

    • @RMTechCentral
      @RMTechCentral  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

CatatonicBug Thanks for your comment! Yeah, a lot of people try to do it from the repair tool, and the reason that doesn’t work is because none of the files that Windows needs to make account changes to are loaded at that point. So when you replace utilman.exe with cmd.exe what you have is the option to open the command prompt window with Windows fully booted up, which runs with system privileges, and then you can basically make any system changes you would like. Anyway, thanks again for leaving a comment and I’m glad to hear that this worked for you!

Mine is doing something totally different. the option to put in a password is not coming up. Like it normally does. When the image and date screen load up. Normally all I have to do is click space bar to get the password fillout to show up. But all it does when I click space bar is reload up the screen. When I click Esc above I see my sign in in the background but it goes away the second I click off of esc ?! And no option for the keyboard on the screen down below either. I've done a chdsk scan. And nothing. Still shows up. Before this problem happened. I was doing a defrag scan which was taking 4 days just to get to 16%. And I opened a folder up which locked the screen. So I shut down. And this new problem started up.

I think the best way to go is this right here - th-cam.com/video/law8u__C7Ho/w-d-xo.html
This video will be 2 years old this April and a lot has changed in Windows 10 since then. The only reason I keep it up here on TH-cam is because it get quite a few views, so it is a more efficient way to direct people to the other video showing a better method, rather than just taking it down entirely and hoping people find the new video on their own, so I did my best to update the description the best I could.
Give that link a try, and let me know if you need help. It is a program that I created to automate everything in this video, and also patch some of the things that no longer work in this video as well. It is free for personal use.
      Good luck!

Hey Rob, thanks for uploading this. Just wondering if you have a video showing how to revert the settings once we've reset the password?

You're very welcome! I'm going to be honest with you - it's been so long since I made this video that I don't quite remember the exact steps... or should I say the way that I had shown the steps in this video. With that being said, the process should be to rename or copy utilman.exe to utilman.bak first before overwriting it with cmd.exe. Afterwards, you would then copy or rename utilman.bak back to utilman.exe. If you didn't do this, then you could just delete utilman.exe entirely, which of course would totally disable the ease of access center, but stop it from opening up the command prompt. Lastly, if you give me the build number of your Windows 10 install, I could try to get you the correct file.

Hi Robert. You saved my bacon Thanks so much. Just one question how do i get rid of the Administrators part on the account screen?
    Please

That’s great! I’m really happy to hear that! If you want to get rid of the Administrator account you can use the same method you used to enable it, except type - net user administrator /active:no

    Thanks so much Rob!
Windows 10 Home user here. You got me almost there! Here is the trick for Windows Home users:
    1. In the Administrator account start command line as an administrator
    2. Enter 'net user
    3. Log in as the local account
Thanks again, Rob! hope you can edit that in :o)

I did it!! Probably wouldn't remember how to do it again to save my life. I didn't lose anything nor did I use a flash drive. I just did the F button and shift then I finally did it right where I got to that screen but I didn't have to type all of that command prompt etc stuff. It was my windows Dell desktop and I've been locked out forever. I would go to Microsoft live on my phone and laptop and change it there but it never worked. Maybe it was a fluke?
