      Thanks for the video. How about after renaming of magnify to magnify1, right click cmd.exe and use copy/paste, then rename the extra copy cmd(1).exe to magnify instead of renaming the original version of cmd.exe which temporarily breaks the command prompt? Then just leave the magnify function as a command prompt permanently. Would save the need for a second reboot. I doubt very many people ever actually need to use magnify unless it is a near blind person.

    You just saved me about 72 hours of solid revision for an exam I have, an entire set of VM’s that would have needed downloading and reconfiguring, an unbelievable amount of memories and so much more time trying to claw much of it back. I had to find a way to set up the W10 iso via Mac, but was fairly straightforward in the end. You should have heard the roar of victory i had when that cmd shell popped. Thank you 🙇‍♂️👍

    You saved my computer! I couldn't even reset the pc because it failed every time at 13%
    This whole mess started when I ran AMD's driver cleanup tool and restarted in safe mode. I was locked at a password login and none of my passwords worked. Neither did trying without entering a password. This method saved 3 weeks of data and time, as well as hundreds of dollars and effort I would have had to waste.

      @Suyash Tiwari, I am also facing the same problem-forgot my password but remember my PIN. I did the exact same steps mentioned in the above video. I made a bootable USB and then renamed the magnify and CMD files in system32 folder as mentioned in the video. But when I type the command in CMD ''net user username' , i am facing a system error 8646 - 'The system is not authoritative for the specified account'. Can you please help me and tell me the steps which you followed as you have recovered your account recently. Thanks in advance.

    Thank you Man!
    Your instructions were precise enough that it allowed me to boot using an older Win10 USB boot key I already had (created circa 2019), and I was able to rename CMD to Magnify on an older Win 8.1 that someone had setup with a MS account login. We did had the MS account password reset, but the OS wouldn't update , even after being connected on the Web for a while. I was able to add an admin account with your instructions, and open local session with that account.
    Note that in the bootable Win10 OS I had the option to select directly "Command Prompt" under the "Repair My Computer" option... I was then able to browse to the correct system drive, into system32, and make the CMD.exe renamed to magnify.exe, and after that do the NET USER commands to get there... No need to go "Install driver", etc.
    Very clever hack ! Thanks a million from my siste-in-law ! 🙂
    p.s. wondering if that hack still work in the most recent Win10 updates ??

    • @0xDEAD_Inside
      @0xDEAD_Inside 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any PC that you have physical access to and not encrypted, is joke on itself. There are hundreds of ways that you can open such pcs, be it linux, mac or windows. Windows doesn't bother itself much with such minor bugs because a security concious person would setup an encrypted volume and save the password at a secure place.
      This is for people who have 2$ locks in their homes and forget their silly passwords all the time.

    • @thegodfurby4842
      @thegodfurby4842 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@0xDEAD_Inside
      Great idea in theory. Sadly it's not normally how it works in practice. A lot of employees forget passwords they set and enforcing volume encryption on thousands of employees is hard to do.
      Small businesses, though, with higher quality employees with better training might be able to do it. Sadly I don't work in a business where I have the luxury of assuming employees will be able to remember passwords. Which is why I was looking for a way to bypass that requirement. Also, as you stated, there are many ways to bypass the password lock on windows logins, I just needed to use one of them.
      That said, useful information for someone who pulls off a small scale or personal setting.

    FYI: The newer builds of Windows has Windows Defender enabled and it will not allow the running of the renamed cmd.exe to Magnify.exe. To fix that issue, after you rename the cmd.exe to Magnify.exe, you need to go rename the Defender directories C:\Program Files\Windows Defender, C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Defender, and C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender. Just add a 1 to the end of each directory name. Then when you reboot, Defender will not be running and will not prevent the fake Magnify (now cmd) from running. Just remember when your pwd fixed, you need to boot back to the USB key and then change the files and the directories names back and then boot back the hard drive... Cheers
