I have to say this.... this video is what introduced me to Jack White. Had it not been for Jimmy, I wouldn't have come to this and listened to Jack white.. Absolute gem

jachwhite is like a reincarnation of jimmy page and robert plan plus a sprinkle of bob dylan.... absolute master... one of the last masters of rock and roll
Plays divine guitar, sings, plays keyboard, plays drums, writes countless music in different styles, runs a record label, produces other artists, experiments with the creation of new genres of music- Jack, a prodigy of our time!
The best part is how intently they all watch each other throughout this show. They all have their own way of practicing the craft and become students again when they are outside of their own style. It clearly shows respect for the other artists and themselves.
Why do people have to argue who is better. Each one of these greats are from different eras. Just sit back and enjoy and shut the "H" up with the BtchN! I respect all 3 of the guys!
I can't imagine how surreal that experience must have been for Jack.....teaching two of your idols how to play one of your own songs like that. My stomach churns just thinking about it...I'd be shitting myself the entire time (probably literally as well as figuratively.....lmao)!! 0_o
Agree 100%! He was nervous too, that's why he ducked out of the song early, I believe. That and edge threw him off a bit when he stepped all over his transition haha
I think the point of this was to put together in the same room a visionary, who relies on a "modern" sound (The Edge), a traditionalist, who relies on raw emotion (Jack) and a LEGEND (Page).
Smh at all the purist snobs constantly hating on the Edge. He's not a technical player, but he's brilliant in his own way. That's why he's here. Maybe he can't shred, but he can write a zillion hit songs and memorable hooks. That's very impressive
@tazmon122 that's a bad argument. Every player relies on something for their sound- blues and rock players frequently rely on pentatonic scales as much as Edge uses effects. Using something frequently doesn't make you bad, it just means you like whatever it is you frequently use.
The Edge doesn't need to be overly skilled and does not pretend to be, but has still created a lot of beautiful pieces with U2. It's like Dave Gilmour, he doesn't have any remarkable skill like Page or White, but is still able to produce something amazing. What he does is simple and to the point, but still incredible.
I would probably have to say that Jack White is probably the most important guitar player in the last 20 years. When history look back at this time period, they'll be looking at Jack.
The look of pure terror in The edges eyes as he tries to play along to what is a fairly rudimentary arrangement. Jimmy's picked it up in a micro second and is happily playing along. It's clear who is the class musicians are here.
The Edge is probably my favorite guitarist, simply because of the fact that he is so unique. Not to say they all aren't amazing, because they are, but I really think he brings something different to the table. Plus, he can really rock that beanie he always wears.
Because he's a pretty good player in his own right, sure he uses loads of effects, but that's his thing and that's what plays into his songwriting and inspiration, which I believe is one of the main points of this documentary.
Three big people in the guitar world, all in one room. Jack has the biggest ego of all and I think it's due to his young age in comparison of Edge and Page. He seems so hostile in the documentary yet a curious learner; trying to see what he can get out of the two fellow guitarist. That stood out to me the most throughout the doc. Awesome regardless!
I love this song choice for Jack, Edge, and Jimmy to be jamming on because it sounds like it couldve been on any Zeppelin album. If it had delay, it wouldve been on any U2 record lol
Say what you want, but watching the movie I ended up respecting Jack White the most, among the three, even though ironically he is the one I listened the less
Another quick comment. I really like Jack White and his work. He revived a crude and straightforward way of making music and playing guitar that I love. But as objectively as possible: he revived it, didnt create it. The Edge on the other hand is kinda always pushing the boundaries on effects and sonic techniques. Kudos for the creativity. Just spitballing.
@crazyjh91 The guitar is a Gretsch Anniversary Jr. with the green bullet harmonica mic built in (he speaks about it in the actual movie) the mic has a retraction system from a vacuum so he can let go of it and it reels itself in ;-)
@crazyjh91 It's a Gretsch Anniversary Jr. In its original form, it was a single cutaway, 2 pickup model, which you can see in any Raconteurs live performances from 2006, though the 3rd pickup was already added. Jack's has been modded by Randy Parsons. Among the mods: double cutaway, 3rd (middle) pickup, built-in MXR microcamp, built in theremin, and retractable microphone.
It was originally a single cut away, but in the actual movie he says how he got a friend of his to add the second cutaway, he also got a harmonica microphone built in at the same time, you should watch the movie, there is a part when he sings with the harmonica mic and it sounds wicked.
Jack White is good at the guitar. Saying he's 'not that good' is a bit misleading. My 8-year-old guitar student is 'not that good', because he can play basic riffs after practice and knows quite a good range of intermediate chords. Jack White is not 'not that good'. He's not a technical genius, but that's not all you measure guitar-playing ability on
I know this is a 7-year-old comment, but I absolutely love Jack White's playing. It's a bit sloppy, but it has such a distinct character to it. He's super innovative.

@crazyjh91 its an Gretsch 6118T Anniversary with a few modifications. For Example the 3rd Pickup in the Middle Position, the upper Cutaway and a BluesharpMic at the lower end.
I would actually LOVE to see Jack and Jimmy play the full song of Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground. Could you imagine the guitar solos?! Oh and what if Robert Plant sang a verse?!
I really love all the teenage bashing on The Edge. They probably think they sound badass, roots or some crap like that. Too bad they don´t understand shit about the craft of guitar playing. Edge might not be the most skilled guitar player ever, but he is a God when it comes down to effects and pedals. And whether you guys know it or not, effects are an integral part of guitar playing. You might not like his sound but there is a lot this guy can teach. True guitarrists and musicians know that.
@crazyjh91 He's using a custom Gretch Duo Jet. He's had a second cutaway put on it, and a third pickup. And a harmonica mic put in. Other than that its a Duo Jet :P
After watching the film today my conclusion is Jack White is a better guitarist than i previously thought and bluesy, Edge is a good guitarist, Jimmy Page is just a pure legend and hes so humble to, and still kicks ass!
