    I go to a lot of auctions and any 300, especially with a Hemi, and in that shape, will go for a lot of money. I would expect that car at a Manheim or Adesa auction to go for at least $3500 or more in the midwest in that excellent condition. Maybe they don't bring as much on the East coast but they sure aren't that cheap out here.

      @iwillforthethrill5217 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You gotta remember these are dealer prices...priced to sell and make profit. The Adesa auction in my area will send it across the street to Copart for more than what he paid!

    • @1967davethewave
      @1967davethewave ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iwillforthethrill5217 I'm a dealer. I know there are good bargains for sure. I'm just jealous because anything with a Hemi here in the midwest goes for considerably more. There was a '10 Challenger R/T with 165k miles a salvage title and a TRA so it was definitely an As Is no matter what and it sold for $5500. I actually was a bidder but dropped out at $4500 because with the TRA present there must have been some kind of an issue. It did look really good though. Of course shipping from all the way on either coast would make zero sense. You got the buy of the year there so enjoy it!

    Heya Craig, I think you should follow your gut and assume something's up. It just doesn't make sense that someone would recently have put that much money into replacing nearly all the mechanical wear items in this car, only to dump it at a dealer auction. So here's my suggestion: Before putting a nickel into it, I'd daily it for a few weeks or more, and put some good miles on it. Take it on a long-ish interstate trip. Look for things like overheating, oil consumption, coolant consumption, excess fuel consumption. There could be something up with the cooling system or head gasket or even the block. I'll keep watching for updates. But yeah, you could've gotten the deal of the decade. EDIT: Craig, it's been 12 days. So what *did* happen? We're all wondering.

    • @rontiemens2553
      @rontiemens2553 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This right here is good advice. The car might have a slow exhaust leak into the cooling system which only shows up on longer trips.

    • @dennislaquerre1575
      @dennislaquerre1575 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I would look into the history of the car and contact the last place that serviced it and see if they have any information on it. There has to be a reason why someone put all that time and money into replacing those parts and then it ends up at auction.

    Sometimes Craig, people do look after their cars, but at some point the constant repairs as they age get people to trade them in. Someone has treated it well by the maintenane and engine/transmission condition. I reckon this is an example of this. Sparkle it up some (flash wheels maybe) good cleanup and sell it. Your original intentions will not get any bigger returns, and you are selling into a very limited market of buyers if you add all that performance stuff.

It was still getting 24 mpg due to the thing where these Hemi's run on 4 cylinders once they get up to cruising speed. I had to trade it in because I needed a truck. If the engine has the cylinder shut off(MDS) there are solenoids under the intake that stock broke easily. When bad can be mistook for a misfire. New solenoids are upgraded as stock came with plastic housing, new ones have steel housing. Biggest problem would be the lifters for the MDS going bad. On cold start will make a bad knock till oil circulates. Also the conductor plate in the transmission can need replacing for a speed sensor type error. Easy fix.

    I bought the same car about 4 years ago from Copart for $1000 with fees. Clean title hemi, 132,000 miles it was in there cause it was stuck in park which is a common issue with them. Simple fix and it was a great car. I ended up selling it for $3500 a few months later.
