I haven’t driven a Raptor but have driven Ford’s new 2 litre Ranger for two days on both highway and rural roads, about 400m. We have a couple of Amaroks and several Ranger 3.2 diesels in our fleet. They are very capable and easy to drive around rural New Zealand. The new 2 litre Ranger, presumably same motor as the one that powers the Raptor in this video is surprisingly good. While it doesn’t have the raw torque of the 3 litre, it is capable. I’d happily own one.
Out of all the engines Ford could’ve fitted, they decided to go with a piddling 2 litre diesel? A disgrace to the Raptor badge, should’ve came with the 2.3 petrol Ecoboost at the very least imo
Colin D this is the overseas spec, they thrive on diesel trucks in Australia. When in migrates to the US it will have a 2.7 L eco-boost engine which will be a beast. PATIENCE

Love my wildtrak. However if I want a raptor it'll be a F150. This isn't a ford performance vehicle, it's a two tonne truck with an engine you'd expect in a focus ST.
I mean, the 2010 Raptor had an anemic 5.4 V8 that wasn't particularly powerful...the Raptor has always been about the suspension first. A friend loves his 5.4. That said, I greatly enjoy my HO 3.5 in my 2017, so I guess I can't say anything.
Ask the UK gov. with all their environMENTAL rules and regulations. I'm guessing that has something to do with Ford's choice. But then again, I don't know how they're selling a new vehicle with a diesel engine. It's just stupid.

You don't have to drive one, they're 90hp per ton. The F150 raptor is 180 per ton. It's the range topper, it should be in a class of its own, instead it gets a shitty 2L coal burner, great going
Hoop Bang on. Nice looking truck with some nice bits and pieces... But beings it’s supposed to represent the highest in class, how does that work when you do NOTHING to improve the heart and soul of the vehicle in question?!? Your asking people to fork over a decent amount OVER regular asking price, yet offer ZERO performance incentives outside of some suspension items?!! On top of that, if the Ranger line as it were, came with more than ONE choice of power plant, and the raptor shared the top choice, ok... But that motor is really pretty sad. Economical and reliable, sure, great!! But I guarantee that if ford offered an engine upgrade to say, the V6 Ecoboost, or, do something REALLY cool and offer the Coyote as a possible choice, more than a few people would HAPPILY shell out the extra dough for one hell of a package!!! Just one mans opinion I guess, I think a truck that nice looking and off road capable, DESERVES a stout power plant as an option. As a Ford fan and 2003 Ranger FX4 owner (which has the 4.0L engine, not much, but it IS better than the 3.0L or God forsaken 4 cylinder), I find this decision by the company to leave the motor alone, quite disappointing!!

Never owned or drove a Ford, but in my country Thailand, there are countless problems and customer complains around the cars. Really wonder what's it like in the USA and Europe.
If you dont like it because of the engine then this truck is probably not targeted at you. Its market is for asia and some parts of europe where taxes for engines above 2.0 is extremely expensive.

@@OscarLeeMX 0-60 is actually 9.3 seconds and get a ecu remap on it and it goes down to 7.3 seconds. I took one out for a test drive the other week and was actually suprised how responsive the engine and gear box is and also the torque is impressive.
I know Matt may have already said this in the video, but I believe the reduced max payload and max towing capacity ratings are due to the new suspension and chassis upgrades?
Here in the uk, it’ll be a sales flop. No business owner will buy this as you can’t claim the VAT back. I guess I’ll be replacing my Amarok with another Amarok.
Forget it. If you want torque get a wildtrak with the 3.2. If you want economy the 2.2. This is just... I don't even know what it's trying to be. It's lost towing capacity, it's lost payload capacity, it's not the high performance you'd expect in a 2ton truck, it's a bit muddled.
@@SammyInnit it has the twin turbo 2.0 in it, not the useless 2.2. More power and torque than the 3.2. It's a lifestyle pickup, not a towing work rig. You fit 2 motocross bikes in the back and drive off to the trails. The 10 speed doesn't have good grunt off the line but the 2021 Wildtrak with the same drivetrain overtakes well. Literally 0 turbo lag. It just pulls and doesn't stop pulling. Fuel economy is alright. 10km/L will get you 850-900km per tank.
@@mangoshake Problem is that that 4 cylinder engine will have to work harder to produce the same torque as the 3.2 which is a 5cyl. The 3.2 is a much better fit. But the raptor doesn't have the same load and tow capacity as the Wildtrack/Limited. This is nothing to do with the engine.
@@SammyInnit load capacity doesn't matter. That's not what the Raptor was intended to do. In the 2 years since this review the Raptor's sales was so good Ford had a supply problem for it. In the same 2 years, the only problem the 2.0 had was cooling, and it was already recalled and fixed.

Still can't quite understand why they didn't put the 2.3L from the North American version, or maybe even the 2.7L V6 of the F150 instead of this underpowered diesel. It might be plenty good enough for a regular pick up, but not a 'Raptor'-branded one. Other than that, I quite like the thing.

The 500Nm of torque sure delivers enough surge for any off roading situations, and given the fuel prices nowadays isn't it nice to have a beast but good on fuel as well? Peace.

A Ford Focus RS can do a rally circuit (off road) and shoot down a motorway (on road)! I have owned a Focus RS and it did what I wanted it to do with decent power also it returned 25mpg, that engine should have been put into the Raptor! You can get a 3.2ltr 5 pot in the wildtrak (you know the one with better towing capacity and bigger payload space) worst case scenario, tune it and place that in! 0-60mpg in 10 seconds is slow on road and off road! But who am I to talk I no longer own a Ford!

My Ford Everest Turbo “Broke” with only 58K on the clock. It seems there is a massive problem with the ford Turbos that no one is talking about! Sold it immediately after being repaired by ford and got a Hilux. Stay away as far as possible from ford. You have been warned.
Nearly 50 grand??? Who (of sound mind!) would pay £50,000 for a crappy Ford pickup??? That's not far off the price of a BMW M3!!! I know which I'd prefer (and that's not the one that can barely get past 100mph!) The only people who would have any interest in a vehicle like this, go around charging old grannies ten grand to 'tarmac ya drive' and who's first option would be a towbar (and chromed ball cover!) They love the fact that they can tow a caravan right into the middle of a well kept bowls green/cricket/football pitch at 60mph in all weathers, it needs to be up to that challenge as they've usually picked up a police tail from all their previous high jinx in neighbouring counties. They can then just yank the handbrake up and set up where it comes to a rest, in the mean time all 9 of their children can stream out of the pick up/caravan to hurl abuse at the police in unintelligible semi Irish/gibberish!!! At least that's been my experience every spring/summer here in England.
As you may be able to tell, I've had more than my fair share with these delightful people. I used to work in a towbar and trailer centre which was like a toy shop to these cheeky little tinkers haha!!!

Timo Köhler yes it has the torque but raptor version is less capable in term of payload and towing compare to wildtrak version...ford has developed a race worthy chassis and suspension but put a workhorse engine...thats a shame...btw 450nm is not weak by any means...

Timo Köhler yes it has the torque but raptor version is less capable in term of payload and towing compare to wildtrak version...ford has developed a race worthy chassis and suspension but put a workhorse engine...thats a shame...btw 450nm is not weak by any means...

James May wrong. This is a truly stupid choice of engine to put in to such a nice, capable truck, that much I d agree with... But Ford Rangers as a whole, at least here in Canada, definitely hold their resale value!!
