I can’t help thinking that one could get 90 % of the The fun with a slightly tuned Disco 2 (even Disco1), without worrying about the cost of the damage. Irrespective of how wealthy you think that you are, Discos 1/2 (and not Defenders) are tremendous value and really great in mud.
Your “off road” “trail” is in better shape than 1/2 of the city streets in Portland Oregon. Any vehicle short of a supercar would be able to handle that “cross country” “track”.

I should have guessed when I saw it was an Autocar test the so called offroad bits would be rather lame. Why don't they try harder? Plenty of serious offroad bits in Wales.
For the Ranger Raptor to be competitive it needs to be endowed with poke than what the 2.0 offers. The 3.2L 5 cylinder would be better. Better noise and a "Raptor" tune would see power knocking on the door of 300bhp. More importantly a decent slug more torque over a wider band without sounding strained. See BMW for 3.0L diesel engines. A 2.0L 4 cylinder diesel is fine in a small hatchback or 3 series BMW. But a large, heavy, not aerodynamic truck with power sapping gearbox and 4x4 system its left wanting. Had it been a standard Ford Ranger all would be fine. But by calling it a Raptor the name suggests power and ability. I think a diesel engine was the right choice for the UK. But a 2.0L without the grunt to live up to its namesake. Embarrassing. The yanks just point and laugh.
