    I’m hyper sensitive to any head trauma now after 4 years of symptoms. Light bumps to my head give me flair ups for days. Would this treatment cure that?

      This is the most common question I get recently so I've pinned this comment so that others can see and hopefully benefit from this response. I also think I need to do a video on this! So thank you for your question. Here goes:
      Concussion is a stressor on the nervous system. Just as many injuries and mental stressors are. Persistent Concussion Symptoms (PCS) are not thought to be due to ongoing BRAIN INJURY, but rather dysfunctions in one or more of the 5 physiologic systems (as discussed in the video).
      Why does this impact some people and not others? The "Cliff" example:
      Imagine there is a cliff and you are standing 500 feet away from the edge of the cliff and someone pushes you (stressor)..you would not fall off the cliff. Now imagine that you are standing 1 foot from the edge of the cliff and someone pushes you (stressor)...you fall off. 70% of concussion patients recover within a couple weeks and 30% end up with persistent symptoms. The thinking is that concussion injury exposes your dysfunctions (i.e., how close you were to the cliff prior to the injury). So if you come into the injury already having gut health issues, neuro-inflammation, neck dysfunction, or other issues, it's as if you're standing very close to the edge of the cliff. You may feel perfectly fine before the concussion and so you think that your struggles are entirely because of the concussion...but they're not! Concussion was simply the catalyst that pushed you over the edge. We see the same thing with mental stress and mental breakdowns....these chronic issues develop over years...then there's a catalyst.
      Now, for your question. Let's say you climb and crawl your way out of that cliff, or perhaps you fell off the cliff but caught a tree branch towards the top...so your recovery was worse than expected but not horrendous. You climb back up on top of the cliff and you stop because you feel ok now. What you don't realize is that you are still standing right at the edge of the cliff! So any minor stressor, whether physical or mental, is enough to push you back over the edge again. Your nervous system is on edge, it senses danger everywhere; you have ongoing neuroinflammation, neck issues, gut issues, etc. You feel fine most of the time but you are one small bump away from falling off the edge again. So these little bumps are not thought to be additional concussions - they are just exposing the fragility of your nervous system. So how do we fix it?
      Well, the same way we fix Persistent Symptoms! We need to build resilience in the system. We need to get you 500 feet away from the edge of that cliff by addressing your underlying dysfunctions (balance your autonomic system, get rid of the gut and inflammatory issues, etc etc. etc.). So your question was - would this program/protocol work in your situation and the answer is yes...because the principles and fundamentals are the same. Fix the underlying issues to create a resilient and strong nervous system.
      Hope this helps :)

    Thank you for this information. I suffer long term conditions from concussions. Through the years, I have had a few. 2 severe, some milder or unreported. In grade 6, kneeling on the back of the chair to say prayers, I out of the blue fainted. Straight back onto the cement floor. I lay unconscious for 15 - 20 minutes until my mother arrived at the school. I was awakened with smelling salts. Never saw a Dr, but spent the next week in bed vomiting. Could barely walk to the bathroom. As an Equestrian jumper from 12 - 19, took many falls, English helmet or not. At the age of 25, I was in a severe car accident. Unconscious a short time. On my own, I saw a neurologist, physiotherapy and traction therapy. Compressed my C3-C5. Also beatings from my ex-husband, some around my head. In my early 40's while snorkelling off Mauie, a wave caught me and I needed 40 stitches to my head. Now I suffer severe migraines and am on disability. Have neurological problems, causing pain and shaking. I had to take an early retirement at 58. I fall a great deal and vertigo is severe, I have also lost a great deal of my hearing. I have to sell my home and move to a small independent apartment at a senior home. After listening to you speak, I am more than convinced, I suffer from years of concussion, after concussion. I will be bringing this up with my Dr. next week. Thank you!

    Suffered multiple mTBI’s as a kid in sports, car wreck, then OEF/OIF 2001-2006 with around 5-6 with x2 being class 3 just in my last deployment. Dealt with post concussive syndromes, mild epilepsy for apprx 5yrs before finally getting cleared, 6 months of speech therapy, and headache/migraines ever since. Disabilities started subsiding and was able to control most for a while. Last couple years, speech getting worse, tremors getting worse and have uncontrollable shaking occasionally, headaches migraines worsening and more frequent, random numb spots on my legs and arms, photophobia, bruised pituitary and hypothalamus from last class3 concussion May2006 and MRI Sep 2006, severe nerve pain in my cervical, lumbar (spinal fusion L3-sacrum), and hips that radiates into my groin, my T12/T11 feel bruised making it hard to sit and lay down too long. Everything seems to always worsen when my body feels with inflammation, and obvious daily stressors. Currently waiting on new neurology and neuropsychology appts. Haven’t seen one in over a decade because I ignorantly thought I was better and would be good. I obviously thought wrong.

Catscan was clean. After second day I started getting some of the symptoms that you describe. I was told to limit screen time, get some rest, but exercise if I was up to it. I contacted my PCP about three days after the catscan saying that I’m still having some slight mild symptoms, he said if they persist that he’ll do an MRI.

      Those are usually NOT concussions. The symptoms are the same however the mechanism of injury is too light to be causing concussion injuries. I'm actually going to do a video on this shortly because I've been getting this question a lot. But essentially this means that there is dysfunction in the same systems that cause PCS - and the same treatments are required to stop this from happening. Check out the Concussion Fix program in the video description and that should do the trick!

    Three days after I hit my head and was diagnosed with a concussion, I was at my doctors office getting my allergy shot. I had an appointment for another issue so I saw my doctor. My blood pressure was sky high. My pulse was high. I could not keep my eyes open because of florescent lights in the office. I must have looked drunk. My partner had driven me in. I told him I was dizzy. He asked me if it was vertigo or dizzinesss. I had no idea. I told him about my headaches, and pressure behind my right eye. The doctor wanted to prescribe blood pressure meds and he said I had a sinus infection. Huh. . I said, no thank you to the drugs and was rather puzzled by the sinus infection. I felt most if not all my symptoms were from whiplash and the blow to my head. So far I have not been able to find a medical person willing to help me recover. Yes I am getting better but it’s been six months. Too bad there are not more doctors trained in recognizing symptoms and getting their patients to the right care. Oh and heart applications, hot flashes, outbursts of anger, and great sadness have followed me throughout my recovery. I am getting better….great video….

    I had a bad fall backwards about 2 months ago from syncope and have been dealing with symptoms although I think at this point it’s mainly coming from my neck with my stabilizer muscles deeply weakened and feeling just “out of it” and shakiness deep within my neck. Had a TBI initially but bleeding is fully resolved and hairline fracture in skull is almost healed. Been seeing a chiropractor in conjunction with vision therapy, exercising 30 min a day, good diet, and have been started doing exercises like chin tucks and isometrics to improve strength. I know increasing frequency and incorporating exercises into lifestyle is important and something you touched on in the past, is it bad to do too many exercises where I wear the muscles out or should I continue to do it as frequently as possible to start feeling normal. Desperate to fully recover as soon as possible as I’m a dental school student and the neck is greatly utilized.

      Hi Joseph - when rehab/physical therapies aren't working, it is a telltale sign that you haven't built the foundational elements yet - these are autonomic nervous system dysregulation, inflammation, gut, hormones, mental health/mindset, nervous system hyperactivity, etc. Sign up for the workshop in the video description on this video and you'll see how this works. Building the foundation is the most frequently skipped step and the NUMBER 1 cause of failed rehab...the only way to get better is to go back to the start and build it the foundation and address those issues!

    Dr Marshall, people I know that have had on going PCS/TBI suspected CTE say that they have had a DTI-MRI and have found white matter and lesions in those that have had 1 or 2 concussions and one of the people I’m referring to is as young as 14yrs old, the other is in 40’s with early dementia dx or cognitive decline. Both have had clean MRI and CT.
    Is lesions and white matter not considered Brian damage from concussion(s)?

      Id like to know also

    • @dr.cameronmarshall1032
      @dr.cameronmarshall1032 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that DTI doesn't show concussion specifically. DTI findings could be due to depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, etc. There is even evidence to demonstrate that increased stress and low socioeconomic status will cause similar findings on DTI as concussion. So the point is that just because you have findings on DTI, it does not necessarily reflect ongoing injury to the brain. It could be because you are stressed about your recovery...it could be because you have ongoing neck pain and headaches....it all looks the same and that's why the literature does not support doing these types of imaging studies clinically for concussion and PCS patients.

    • @lisachristinaconfirmed5067
      @lisachristinaconfirmed5067 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dr.cameronmarshall1032 I did not know that.
      I will say the 2 individuals I’m referring to are definitely NOT low on socioeconomics BUT they both did have headaches. I also know that because concussion treatment is still in it’s infancy is why they may have been stressed because they were not getting treated properly despite one of the individuals going to “ the best concussion specialist docs in the country “, so the factor of inadequate care treatment should definitely not be discounted for an individual doing a DTI- MRI after injury . The fact that they didn’t feel the need to even consider a DTI-MRI after symptoms that were never present before like headaches is another HUGE variable to not dismiss. Another factor to not dismiss is that most low socioeconomic individuals typically do not know about an DTI-MRI let alone the basics of treatment of concussion.

    I had a mountain biking accident and ended up in the hospital. Apparently I had fractures in my skull and internal discharge of the fluid in the brain. It was coming out through my nose. That was taken care of (thru a drain on my back) and I was told the fractures will heal by themselves, no surgery required. Before they released my from the hospital, they found a blood clot so I’m on a blood thinner now. It’s been 4 weeks since my accident and my head hurts but I think my neck hurts more. I have serious vision problems, so it’s difficult to walk. Is there anything in your program I could apply to my situation? I’ve been just sitting/laying around waiting to get better but it seems like I’m just getting weaker…

      Sorry to hear about your injury Sylvia! It sounds like a bad one. The neck is heavily involved in vision so some of your vision issues could be due to the neck issues. Given the severity of your injury and your current symptoms, I'd be working on getting in to see a neuro-optometrist, a good PT/chiropractor for your neck, and find a concussion-trained clinician to run a Buffalo Concussion Treadmill test to start you on subsymptom threshold exercise (provided you are allowed to exercise). I think our Concussion Fix program could be a fit for all the other things like reducing inflammation, working through set-backs, gut issues, hormone issues, sleep issues, etc. I wish you all the best!

Since then I've been getting concussed/symptoms from very tiny knocks (eg baby or dog hitting my face but quite lightly or jumping into the pool or going over speed bumps. Best way to describe the feeling following these little knocks is I feel hungover for two days with headaches when looking at screens. Can last up to 3 or 4 days and then I go back to normal until I get another little knock again). It is really affecting quality of life. All scans show no sign of anything sinister on the brain. Hi Nick - this is usually a reflection of one (or more) of these 5 systems being dysfunctional. Small perturbations can throw these systems off and you get a recurrence of symptoms. The way forward is to address each of the 5 systems so that they are more resilient to future perturbations. Your best bet is honestly the Concussion Fix program. • @CompleteConcussions
      @CompleteConcussions  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      stretching and sheering of axons is the cause of concussion. The net result is an energy deficit which lasts for 3 to 4 weeks and then recovers. Symptoms beyond this time are not thought to be due to this anymore....there are 5 potential causes of ongoing symptoms. Anxiety is only one possibility. Put another way...If the diagnosis is concussion (and not more serious brain injury), persistent symptoms are not due to brain injury but rather those 5 causes as discussed in the video

    Do individuals who experience concussion-like symptoms from small non-concussive blows to the head (e.g., on-off persistent symptoms not due to a novel concussion), fall into one group in particular?

    • @CompleteConcussions
      @CompleteConcussions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is likely just unresolved PCS that mostly hangs around at a subclinical level - most of the time things are fine, but unbeknownst to the individual they are sitting right on the edge of the cliff and the slightest stressor can push them over the edge. This stressor can be mental (i.e., close call, increased work stress, argument with spouse) or physical (i.e., small bump to the head or a bumpy drive in a car) and it sets off all their symptoms again. This is not another concussion but rather falling off the cliff they were hanging on. The same dysfunctions that lead to this relapse are the same ones that drive persistent symptoms - Autonomic, inflammation/hormones/gut, visual/vestibular, neck, or mental health. So in some it could be an anxiety response...in others fight or flight...in others an inflammatory cascade...in others, neck dysfunction. The only way to get rid of this and prevent it from happening is to fix the underlying systems so that you can move away from the cliff - ie., you increase your resilience to these stressors. Make sense?

    Doc does flying affects pcs or gets symptoms worse ?

    • @CompleteConcussions
      @CompleteConcussions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not as far as we know. The studies that have been done show that there's no effect if you fly within the first 2-3 days after injury. One study showed that in the VERY early post-injury phase (i.e., professional athletes that fly within 6 hours of suffering a concussion) ended up taking a bit longer to recover. But the other studies that have looked at 24-48-72 hours have found no effect of flying. So it it doesn't impact brain physiology in those very early phases, the chances of it having a significant impact on PCS would be extremely low. Now, in saying that, this does not mean that travelling can't increase/flair symptoms (because it can - jet lag, lots of movement, anxiety/stress, crowds, etc.) - but this is all just temporary and should not materially affect PCS. Good luck!

I tested negative for Amicron but my husband had it the week before (he tested positive) and I tested negative for it butI had the same symptoms but 10 times worse than he did. I am not vaccinated for Covid becauseI have a genetic blood clotting disorder. My husband had both vaccinations and this is is second time to have covid. I was on covid medications and I read where this medication can cause blackouts. If my stairs has not been carpeted two doctors told me I would have possibly died or suffered a broken neck or spine so possibly being paralyzed. I did not know for 5 weeks that I had had a concussion and have amnesia. I do not get hungry anymore. I have lost 20 lbs since Jan. I have had unexpected emotional days when I cry lot. My have trouble remembering things that zip used to know. I separated my left shoulder and broke a bone under my tendons. I have vertigo still today after having PT twice for my balance and vistubular twice. I am sure I have a neck injury. I am 70:years old. I had about 4 sore places on the top of my head but no really bumps or knots. At the hospital they did a cat scan but no covid test. I never had a headache from this. I rarely have headaches ever. I was told that I would have to wait until June to see a TBI doctor at Vanderbilt in Nashville because I could not see a TBI doctor at Fort Sanders in Knoxville for 6- 8 months and Dr. Wilson said at my age zzneeded .I got to see a doctor who treats the football players here when having concussions. Dr. Wilson said I needed to start treatment right away at my age. I could not see a doctor at the TBI clinic at Fort Sanders in Knoxville for 6-8 months. So I am not sure I have been treated properly for my injury yet. I did see a psychologist at the Patricia Neal Center in Knoxville and was tested and did fine on the test. This concussion had been a mystery to me from the time I found out that Zia had had one. The paramedic wrote on medical that zI passed the test for having a concussion by answering all their questions correctly. The last thing I remember is drying my hands in the bathroom and hearing my husband talking on his phone in the next room to a client. When he came out to tell me something he could not find me and figured I had gone downstairs to bed because ai was so sick. When he got to the top of the stairs he saw me in a heap at the bottom with my eyes open so he was not sure I was alive until he saw me blink. I was bleeding from my face and my leg so he did not know what to think. He called an ambulance and we got to Leconte hospital around 8:30 pm. I was headed back home at 5:30 am with no explanation.

Vaccine-related injuries are not likely to affect visual/vestibular/neck but more likely to affect autonomics, inflammation, etc. So, yes, some of the treatment is the same - but physio, chiro, osteopath are not likely to the right choice since they are not the ones that typically deal with the autonomics and inflammation side of things. I have a question regarding heart palpitations:
    I'm 99% sure that my PCS stems from autonomic nervous system dysregulation. If my pulse goes above 115 bpm, i will begin to feel pain in my head. To fix this i have started exercising (walking) with a pulse 10% below my threshold for 45-60 mins per day. After a week of doing this, i increased my exercise pulse by 10 bpm. It all seemed to go well, as i didn't get a headache while walking or after. However, when i returned from my walk, my heart started pounding really hard. It has now been 4 days, and the heart palpitation has not gone away. It is especially bad when i lie down, which really affects my sleep.
    So my question is: Is this a sign that i exceeded my pulse threshold or is it likely an anxiety related issue? Also do you know if anything can be done to help this issue?
