  • Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
    The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This was an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

    First question is why do we thank God when life is fair.
    Same reason we attribute sunlight to the sun -- the sun is its source,
    and God is the source of all happiness and pleasure.
    We don't blame the sun for darkness, and we don't blame God for our suffering
    because he doesn't cause our suffering -- we do.

    At times it just seems as if Cliffe forgets to put forth some of the best evidences (which he mentions all the time) that support the existence of a theistic God. There were a number different ways I feel he could have easily responded to the second guy who spoke about nature "choosing" the best species etc. As he usually does, why not just simply ask the guy where he thinks nature itself came from in the first place!?" 😐 Lol. Space, time and matter cannot and do not create themselves, therefore a spaceless, timeless, immaterial, creative (because He created) and thinking (because He 'chose' to create) Being had to be the "cause" of the universe. Is it not more rational and logical to believe that God created the universe via a "big bang" than it is to believe that everything just came out of nothing (which is an oxymoron in and of itself)? FWIW, gravity is not "nothing", it is a physical law of "nature", so gravity cannot create the universe/ nature, as it IS part of the created universe/ nature... natural laws are not "nothing". Energy is matter as well, at least physical energy is (as opposed to Gods Spirit as energy), so energy is also part of the creaTION and not one of the other "nothings" that some believe caused the universe to come into existence. Anyway, I really enjoy listening to your discussions, Cliffe! Grace be with you brother! 🙂

      You do realize these are excerpts not the full video. My question for you is what evidence do you have of the invisible attributes of God? “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” Romans 1:20. I have studied the Bible since I was twenty and I am saved for 49 years and I found that Jesus is not a liar or a hypocrite. He did exactly what He said He would do. Men are hypocritical liars but God is not a man and therefore has none of the weaknesses and unrighteousness of man. “ God is NOT a man that He should lie, nor the son of a man that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19.

    Cliffe mentioned about the problem of suffering in regards to children dying of terrible diseases, and spoke about the answer being that they will spend eternity in heaven, but that doesn't really address the core issue of *why* they suffer in the first place? Surely it can't be due to 'The fall of man', why punish an innocent child or baby for something they had nothing to do with? If a man commits a terrible crime, he is quite rightly punished, but we don't punish his family or his future generations. That is wrong.

    • @bonnie43uk
      @bonnie43uk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelk7348 Hi Michael, that isn't the argument I'm making. You are absolutely right, our actions have consequences, I have a responsibility to myself and to society to act in such a way that I don't harm others. You don't need a God to tell you what is good or bad, we are more than capable of working that out for ourselves. If I drink and drive, and hit someone .. that is entirely upon me to accept responsibility and to take any punishment that comes my way.
      Here's where it gets bizarre though, if I kill your wife and kids in a hit and run car accident because of my selfish decision to drink and drive, and I get away with it, years later, I become a born again Christian, and genuinely ask for Gods forgiveness for my sins, .. according to the New Testament, if I am genuine in my acceptance of Jesus, and I am sincere in my repentence for my sins ... he *will* forgive me, and I *will* go to heaven. Is that fair that I've killed your wife and kids, and not suffered *any* punishment?
      Now I'm not saying eternal punishment would be worthy and just punishment, .. i think that is evil. But neither is receiving no punishment. Where is God's fair and balanced punishment system?
      It would be good to get your thoughts on that.

      Suffering In the Bible is the most interesting to me especially the book of job. There’s this idea tossed around that the fear of god is the bases of wisdom but what does that mean. It means being humble is the bases not that god is a god of fear. And wisdom and suffering are tied very closely in the Bible.

    If u r referring to Genesis 1, there is no account for the age of the universe, despite the common perception. Genesis in it's original Hebrew that it was written is a much more subtle and stylized message than the scientific interpretation of 6 day 24 hour literal creation than the English translation gives the impression of. I don't think one is bound at all to 6 24 hour day creation, nor to the 6000 year age of the universe implied by the genealogy in Genesis and Exodus. Not in the slightest.

  • @Bak3dB3an
    @Bak3dB3an 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The universe being old I don't think is very consistent with God's account for creation.
    The stretching of the heavens, time space and matter and the 7 day creation are very close together.
    The reason billion light years turns into literal billion years is because they make a connection that light acts the same here as it does in deep space.
    Actually light travels fast in deep space and slower here. So it seems like billions of years when it's not.

    It is to realize the creation has a creator who has made all things including us.

He raised a man, a boy and a girl to life. Claims he is the life giver. He was with God from the beginning. The world was made through Jesus Christ. Sin has deformed us but Jesus came to transform the body, soul, and the spirit and our twisted minds too. see www.gotquestions.org

    So given the conditional claim that IF God exists, then we are important and have purpose and value, vs if God does NOT exist, then we do not, you need to give justification for your support of the 2nd option in that conditional, just like I give support for my belief in the 1st option of the conditional. You can't just assume God doesn't exist, and let that guide your conclusion. There needs to be argumentation provided to support your conclusion.

    This is a conditional claim - if the universe was not fine tuned, if Christ was a fraud and God does not exist, then obviously we are insignificant. But your comment "Each of us is of no more importance in the Cosmos, than a single atom in one grain of sand on the beaches of Earth" is a conclusion that is reached purely on the basis of your presupposition that there is no God, I don't see any justification for thinking that is true, in fact there are arguments that show it is NOT true.
