    I’m planning on getting one of these used, not really familiar with them. What mileage should I stay under 100k, 70k, 40k?

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’m not sure, really. I can say that eventually, you’ll need to get new diesel injectors. It’s one of the most expensive maintenance jobs and that will be around the 80-100K mark that they go. It’ll be a couple of grand so if you find one higher mileage I’d make sure the injectors are done. I’m doing all fluids every 30K miles (oil every 5K) which is half intervals for all fluids. Probably best if you can find a used one that has good maintenance history and if it wasn’t used for towing, even better! The only issues I’ve heard about have all been taken care of by RAM as recalls so RAM has been good about fixing issues. There is a 125,000 mile MOPAR warranty (that doesn’t cover injectors) so if you find a truck with that, it is a transferable warranty one time and covers everything else with a $200 deductible. Might be something to check on if you’re looking at a used one.

    I can confirm some of your numbers. I own a 2014 Ram Laramie with a 3.0 Ecodiesel motor with 254,000 miles currently. My best ever MPG was 31.9 mpg and went 769 miles on a tank, but I averaged 64 mph. Generally, I get 26-28 mpg on the highway, 22-24 in mixed driving, worst ever mpg is 20.8 in the winter and remote starting to warm up the truck. MPG while towing, I average 15-17 depending on the wind and terrain and have towed up to 8,500 pounds. What really sets the Ram apart is how comfortable to drive the truck especially long distances.

    idk about everyone, I never use cruise control when under a load or pulling a trailer.
    bad mpg and working your truck too much. watch them RPM to get better mpg when under a load. keep it under 2,000 rpm. 1600 if possible
    cruise control to be used when empty

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, 55,000 miles. Zero problems so far. No warranty problems and maintenance has been really easy (I do it myself) and fuel economy over that many miles is around 24 MPGs. I can get 30 but it’s not worth driving 10 miles an hour everywhere.

    Amazingly beautiful truck !
    The ecodiesel is an excellent engine, as per my experience with it, it requires correct maintenance as per the manufacturer recommendations and to rev high the engine from time to time, the quiet driving does not benefit those engines.

      I just hit 30,000 miles. Other than a few recalls that really weren't affecting me personally, it's been an amazing truck. I've done all of the maintenance myself and I love how fuel efficient it is.

    The RAM 1500s are really nice trucks. It's just once you get into the upper trims, those rims and tires I wouldn't even want to drive it down a gravel road. I'd have to go with the off road pkg.
    Love that color combo!

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree. The Laramie / Limited trims are just not suited for anything more than an unpaved road that's maintained. We use this guy to haul our dirt bikes around to rallies and it's fantastic. I did put on smaller (20" wheels) for Winter wrapped in beefier rubber which was helpful on our potholes.

    Hey Adam, what is the oil coating you have on the bottom and what company did you use?

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did ValuGuard. Despite the name, it’s a pretty thick coating. It goes on like Line-X but it’s a bit cheaper. Warranty is about 10 years but it requires you have a dealer put the truck on a lift every 2 years to inspect and patch any cracks or chips which in my opinion is just smart anyway. They ONLY install ValuGuard with the warranty on new vehicles. I had mine done at 1000 miles.

    Are you at 50k yet ?is it holding good ?I have a 5.7 but want the diesel.Had the previous generation ecodiesel but sold it while was still good (those engines were bad due to the emissions stuff)

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m very close to 50K. Honestly, no issues other than some recalls that have been done. There are a few hundred new EcoDiesels still on lots but the supply is dwindling fast.

  • @bh844

    I have two minor critiques that drive me nuts, but other than these I love my Ram!
    1. Rearview mirror is too small. I want to see out the back of my whole window not just the center window amd a quarter of the left and right windows.
    2. Driver's side wiper doesn't go far left for me. Seems a lot of glass along the Driver's left side could be wiped by the wiper.
    I know these sound nit picky, but hey I bought a $60k truck.

    What mud flaps are those? Mopar or aftermarket. Also any screwing/drilling required or do they use the existing holes?

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are from OmacShop which sells a lot of stuff from China. You use the existing holes + you drill a couple of extras. They're incredibly stout and a perfect fit...they basically become a part of the bumper once installed. There are front & rear separately and the set is $25 "Front Mud Flaps Molded Splash Guards 2 pcs for Dodge Ram 1500 2500 2019-2021 × 1" is what you'll search for.

    The rams are so nice. It's just insane to me that there is only 1,000lbs of payload. I could deal with 1300, but prefer 1600. You fit just 5 people in there and the payload is maxed. Wtf.

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It kind of comes down to options. This is the lowest payload you can get on a 1500 due to the amount of options I picked. The Tradesmen HFE I think has 1800 pounds but also zero features.

    I was thinking about getting an EcoDiesel is this one a 4x4. I wouldn't be driving it everyday would you recommend that

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4X4 yes but it only comes in handy when I’m on snow and I use the 4WD Auto function which helps with traction but a truck like this isn’t really being taken off road. If you don’t see snow or don’t do beach days, it’s only advantage is probably resale value. It reduced payload to add 4X4

    What is your feedback on the split tailgate besides the fact that you have to slam it?

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s held up okay so far. We’ve loaded up a few 600 pound road bikes on it. No issues, bit of tail gating, etc. It’s fine I prefer the convenience of it. Someone rear-ended me with a boat trailer and even though insurance paid the bill I will say the MFT is way more expensive to fix versus the traditional one. This comes in 4 parts instead of 1 and each part seems to be the price of just one tail gate. If you plan on keeping the truck forever and using it as a work truck, you may be better off with a conventional tail gate due to the price of parts. Who knows how long the MFT will be reliable. 10 years?

I remember when the EcoDiesel first came out they were selling like hotcakes now I don't think they sell to much because people don't trust them. Are you drive city or highway miles?

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alfie and good morning. I live in a rural area so I don't think my city miles are the same as other people. I never sit in traffic and we don't have many stop lights so I'm going to say highway mostly. I've averaged down to about 25 MPG but if I'm doing flat interstate, I can still get 29.

    How is the diesel in the cold? I had a mk7 tdi golf, and my wife could drive all the way to work and it would never get warm.

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Okan, I don't know yet personally. It's just now Winter here and I do have the block heater element ready to plug in when I need it. Some friends in Canada who have this truck say they don't have any issues but below -20C, you should hook it up to the engine block heater for better cold starts.

    Dent in the fuel door? 25 MPH wow!! My 2017 Tacoma is lucky to see 22 MPG on the highway empty.

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think what you saw was a recession they put into the door that tells the operator where to push to release it. It's a cap-less setup but does lock when the truck is locked. RAM claims 29 MPG in best conditions. Best I've seen is 27.

      Congrats! Low miles relatively, too! Like a dream. I had a few recalls done, no oil burning. I did have a dead battery after 6 months that Mopar replaced for free and someone hit me with their car backing into a grocery store so I had the door repaired and repainted, nothing serious. I still think I want to get it ceramic coated but other than that, a fantastic vehicle.
