Kimberly, I spent 16 years as a policyholder rep and fraud claims reviewer for an insurance company in New England. If you are ever going thru difficulties with a provider, meaning the doctor, hospital, etc., bring it up with your insurance carrier. They are part of your recovery team as well, if we ever had trouble ever getting records from a hospital, or were getting conflicting information from them, the insurance company processing the claims can use their strength to straighten things out. HIPPA laws are extremely strict, and we were trained to cut through the red tape. I’m glad you’re on the road to recovery, and you and your family remain on my prayer list. 😊

Hi guys It is so good to hear you are getting back to normal. I would tell the Doctor the problems you are having with the hospital. I would also go to your State Food and Droug administration and see what you can do about getting it pushed thought your State regulations about people with food alergies. those are some really good lookin cows. Love your video God bless y'all and until next time take care now.

You're following the proper procedure. If the hospital works out things internally, that's great. When they won't, then it's time to file complaints with the agencies. You done right.

I’m a retired RN and I am appalled at the treatment you received from dietary, and the behavior of that nurse. The hospital I worked with would come down hard on poor nursing care, as they should. Most nurses take their jobs very seriously but there are some not so caring. I hope they can set your minds at ease that they have made real changes.

You have the right to 100% of your medical record. I encourage you to get all of them. It may cost some money but it won't be a budget breaker. Ask for Physicians Orders and Notes, Nurses Notes, Lab Results, Anesthesia Notes and Orders. Surgeon Operative Notes, Dietary records and if you want to really know incredible information ask for the complete itemized billing. Likely it will be at least a ream of paper. I also encourage all people to keep their own copies of labs, tests and visit notes. Computer systems usually do not talk to other systems so being able to carry your own records is valuable. Also you can get DVD'S of x-rays, MRI'S etc. It favors people to carry their own records. Best wishes and thank God for your recovery.

Thankfully a digital copy will be very minimal in cost. Paper copies would be a lot from this hospital so I am only going to get the digital records of my entire chart.

I'm so glad you filed with State Board of Nsg!! I was 16 yo having a tumor removed. Dietary gave me fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, salad & corn on the cob, && desert. Well l was NPO having surgery soon. The nurse walked in & FREAKED out. Nothing Per Os big red sign above my head & foot of the bed. Lol. I've been a nurse for 40+ years now. One of the times my husband was in the hospital his HIPPA rights were violated. All we got was a verbal we're sorry.
My husband was later in a rehab center. They caused his death. My lawyer said you have to request his records in writing. Then their lawyers remove anything they don't want you to see. So not right!!!

They are your records they should be free. I'm VA, and I know that when I went to an outside doctor/hospital and then requested my records after I had had surgery there, they gave them to me free of charge, and that was at Little Rock UAMS, I also had surgery at Little Rock Baptist, and they gave me my records also. I don't know what the problem would be with them not wanting to give you yours unless they are trying to make sure that they are not trying to cover something up.

I was wondering g the same thing. And he might work out of different hospitals if there are other ones. Even if he’s not on the verified surgeons (can’t recall what that’s called) he can get some type of permission to do surgery elsewhere if it’s like I’ve seen in Central Texas some time back.
It’s really a shame to have to take this on while recovering. But sounds like y’all are doing the right thing and very well. Just sad to have happen.

Thanks for the update, , so glad you are feeling better Kimberly! God is so good! I have bad food allergies…I’ve had some issues with a hospital that was giving me blood transfusions once a year… when I had to spend the night, my daughter just went out to get me food, I didn’t trust them when they messed up my plate… I made a complaint but just left it there and ate outside of the hospital from home… I now know I have to cook and freeze my own foods for emergencies… it’s so scary with food allergies for me, they could kill me with the wrong foods… I don’t get the transfusions anymore now that I have gone through menopause… Thank you Jesus! One local hospital I refuse to go to, so I drive 30 mins away for emergency… the health care sucks!

You can log I. For free to the board of nursing Disciplinary actions. It may take a while but all actions are public. You o need to know first and last name of the nurse and it can take quite a while for any info to be published on the site. I’m a retired Risk Management RN and still look at the Texas site all the time. Just so interested on how healthcare and nursing is going and looking for trends etc. it is discouraging for sure. Thus while I’m retired. Best of Luck to you. Thank you for stepping up to report. ❤️❤️

I'm glad you didn't let this go. I can speak from experience that not getting proper care while in the hospital can be very upsetting. I have a daughter that has seizures and she was hospitalized to have a week of testing and I went to walk my husband, daughter and grandson outside to the car. I notified the nurse, a technician and the nurses at the nursing station that I was going to be out of the room for about 15 minutes. Since my daughter was considered a fall risk due to her seizures the staff had told us both that she wasn't to go to the bathroom by herself without a staff member present. A nurse got her up helping her to the restroom and then left her by herself? Yes you guessed it she went into a full grand mal seizure. The bathroom door only swung into the bathroom and none of the staff could get to her. From what we understand she hit the sink first ripping it from the wall, landing on the toilet breaking it in half and then continued to have a seizure for the 10 minutes it took them to get the door off the hinges to get to her. Her injuries from the seizure were a concussion, a gash 14 inches long across the back of her head that required staples and a broken collar bone. Imagine walking into the room and seeing 4 doctor's and 6 nurses around her bed. I asked " what's going on?" Everyone was quiet. I looked at the nurse and said "you left her alone in the bathroom didn't you?" Then the excuses started coming out of her mouth. I calmly looked at her and said " you can leave this room and the floor, you have no idea what your doing and don't need to be caring for patients that have seizures because even I know that you don't leave them alone in the bathroom!" I lodge a complaint with the director of the hospital. I was asked"what I would like to be changed?" I told them first the doors to all bathrooms needed to be able to be opened from both ways and to make sure that the staff that cover for shortages have the proper training to care for seizure patients. The next time my daughter went into the hospital the changes had been made. So filing complaints do make it so other never have to go through what my 17 year old daughter had to go through. Keep making follow up calls. A special diet is given to people that are diabetic and have heart issues. The nurse that left my daughter alone was let go because the hospital wasn't going to allow her to continue to make the same mistake over and over. Aparently it wasn't the first time she had done it. Thank You for sharing your experience. I hope you continue to have an awesome recovery. Much love from our family to your family.

Having been in the nursing career for 32 years, this breaks my heart that you had to go through this. It only takes one to make you leary of all. I am so glad that you have went further up with state after not receiving a decent response locally. If your state is anything like Iowa, where I'm from & have worked most of my career, you will receive a full report from state, at the end of their investigation. If there is anything I can do to help please don't hesitate to reach out. I am so thankful your surgery went well & you had such a great surgeon. I do agree with what someone else said about letting your surgeon be aware of the bad experience you had with a nurse & even dietary. He definitely needs to be aware of it. I think I've been on about every experience that there can be. From having a bad nurse myself on a couple occasions of being a patient. Being an advocate for a brother that was fighting for his life. Then when my Mom was in a nursing home for a short time we had to contact state ourselves, more than once. I just pray everything continues going well for you, Kimberly & that you do get a response from state. I thoroughly enjoy your family & the sharing of your animals & your life. Sending love & prayer. Take care, be safe & God bless ❤❤❤❤

That dietician came back the next day to say she had found validation about the hidden ways MSG can legally be in foods and was appalled she had not been taught that fact in her education process. I thanked her for listening and learning. We hoped she could make a difference with her new knowledge.
And YES to patient needing a 24/7 advocate with a notebook to record every single entry and interaction with a hospital employee as that is only way to fully protect from errors or to prove your statement is valid about a person or event. Exhausting but so worth the effort to know the meds and doses, times and person.

Thank God for Kimberly's sake and maybe many others down the road, you followed through and made them accountable! Good on you! I had to do that also when I was hospitalized in by 20's! A charge nurse made what could have a costly mistake to me! Thankfully I'm a nurse, graduating from that hospital! I brought it to my doctor's attention, from there it went to administration and director of Nurses! That charge nurse was ultimately let go! It had to happen so a mistake like that would not be repeated! The hospital also offered me a job, but I was already employed elsewhere! Point is you have to protect yourself and sometimes others as well! So happy to see your continued progress Kimberly! God bless!

At least you got some kind of response. I would still set up a meeting with the administrator if you are not satisfied with the response of the patient advocate. It is sad that hospitals don’t see the issue. Maybe they should be admitted to a hospital and see how they are treated by their staff. My sister was very sad at their response to how they basically just shrugged it off. Sorry they treated you so disrespectfully. I am so glad that you are on the road to recovery. Keep taking care of yourself.

Great job being your own advocate. Most hospitals are all about the MONEY now, and it is sad how bad our healthcare has become. Keeping praising the GOOD STAFF and the care that they gave you, as you know, that is just as important as filing the complaints against those that were so subpar. Praise GOD how well you are healing! I love calves too---had many pet Holstein calves growing up because of feeding them the milk replacer, and watering them.

Such bullshit, it is always a pain to get your money ey back. I overpaid $900 at my dentist, and I had to fight for it. Then my next dentist did the same problem it took 6 months to get back.
    Good luck.

After listening to all you have had to go through to file a complaint I definitely would ask for your medical records just to see what was written up about you and your op…you are saying all the same things I said after the really bad incident I ghad last July and I don’t ever want to go under anesthetic again and my son and my daughters have said what you have said that you wld not be left alone as they wld not leave my side…my doctor wants me to do a full report but it’s taken a yr for me to be able to mention it and that’s without details as I kept having panic attacks wen I thought about it…im so glad your more or less better but a lot better than you wer…🙏❤ the calf’s are gorgeous and that one ur stroking is amazingly friendly ❤
