    Jared: I'm Jared from Tyre Review, and we're here on the west coast of Tasmania for the Tyre Review Winter Adventure. This past weekend, I've been driving on the Pirelli Scorpion All-Terrain Plus. It's a brand-new tyre they've just released. We've been doing some pretty serious tracks over here. We hit Montezuma Falls, which is pretty muddy, pretty rocky; and then we hit Climies Track, which is pretty rocky and pretty muddy. Today, we're on the dunes as well. So, we've done a pretty good [inaudible 00:00:52] of different tracks.
    These tyres were probably the second lightest on the trip. We had five mud-terrains, two all-terrains, or actually, well, four mud-terrains, two all-terrains, and one rough-terrain, RT. I'm pretty impressed with how they've gone. I've really only got stuck when I was driving to get stuck. It's funny when you got the cameras egging you on. But, they clean themselves well. I had pretty good control through all of the mud and all the rough tracks, and they climbed really well as well. I'm probably slightly on the more aggressive side as a driver, but it's what I do to have fun and hopefully not break the car. I rated these tyres. They perform well. So yeah, I'd certainly recommend them, and that's it.

      Depends on what your doing I'll say. I've had Wildpeak for a while now and they are superb off road. H2h with KO2s no problem. I think the Scorpion is still more street biased from the look of it, never driven one though. I'll say if you off road a lot and have the budget go with Wildpeak.

      Hi mate, while it may not have been shown in the video, I aired down to 20psi on the tracks, and about 12psi on sand. That was actually too low for the dunes, but I couldn't be assed getting the compressor out to correct it during the middle of filming. Surprised that the tyres didn't roll off the rims, actually! ~Jared

    I just had 255/55R19s fitted yesterday to my Land Rover Disco 4.
    Are they a 2 ply sidewall?
    Was advised to run them on road at 40.
    What pressures do you run them off road, and on sand?

    • @TyreReviewVideos
      @TyreReviewVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, 2 ply. 40 sounds high... I run mine at 34 in the front, 32 in the back. Generally start at 16 in the sand, and go up or down from there, depending on how the sand is 👍

  • @charlieyoule8007

    Interesting advert, but little on specifics. How do these compare to BFG KO2 or GRABBER AT3 ? Pirelli's first full on AT tyre by their own admission, looks good but with an E rating and weight being a consideration what about a comparison.
    The AT+ are a heavier tread than say a Yokohama G015, considered by some to be a good street orientated AT, so how are they up against two of the big established names in off road and all terrain tyres ?
    Let have proper review with details. As prospective buyer, I would question the lack of detail.

    • @TyreReviewVideos
      @TyreReviewVideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi mate, some fair points. This trip was more about having a bit of fun and giving the tyres a work out. We're looking into doing some direct comparisons, but that is particularly difficult to do scientifically. What we do, for now, is run these tyres for 10,000km to see what they're like to live with day to day. This is more a seat-of-the-pants comparison than what you're after, but still gives reference from someone who has been out and about on a wide variety of AT tyres, including G012's, the predecessor to the G015. For reference, the AT+ is still one of my top AT tyres from the last couple of years of testing, alongside the Cooper AT3 XLT and the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, depending on your budget. If you're interested in seeing the full written review on the AT+, after the 10,000km, head over to the link below. We'll keep thinking on a way to scientifically compare AT's (and other tyres) to each other, so leave that with us :) Cheers! Jared

      @@TyreReviewVideos It is difficult to give a "scientific" review as you understand as real world driving as you are doing makes sense. However simple traction comparisons over the same course would be good, I do get the issues and costs behind doing such a review.
      Part of the problem is owners abilities and understanding of things like air pressures particularly off road, so a Yokohama G015 to one person may be great, some else even in like for like vehicle maybe an absolute disaster. I have run Wrangler, Maxxis, BFG amongst others over the years, on different fourbys including Jeep, Nissan, and Land Rover.
      I am currently running the BFG KOs (245 70 R16) which are now at the end of their useful life, the BFG KO2 is the natural choice. With winter approaching here and already very wet conditions off road, I need replacements. The KO2s are currently going for a 155 + of your finest English pounds, the AT+ sell for 125, which is not a huge difference, but for a set of 5 it counts. There are other tyres as you suggest out there, and looking through the available UK tyres and various other factors including use in snow and on wet greasy grass, the AT+ may fit the bill. So hence me looking at your review. Keep up the good work and thanks for prompt response. If I do go with the AT+ I will let you know...….

    • @TyreReviewVideos
      @TyreReviewVideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's such a tough choice, and even more difficult in that you can only purchase every few years, AND you can't try before you buy, you just have to like it or lump it. There's a good crop of new ATs on the market at the moment, though, so worth doing what your doing and researching what's best for you.
      I've thought through all sorts of different ways of testing AT's side by side, but keep coming back to the fact that it'll never be exactly the same conditions for each. I was thinking even a large truck/lorry with a tipper, and seeing how far the same vehicle gets up the tipper at given angles... but then that's only proving traction on one specific surface. Sticking them on the track is also another opportunity, but that's only demonstrating road holding capacity, and none of the off road capacity. Bah. Anyway, we'll come up with something, and thanks for the conversation 👍

    • @charlieyoule8007
      @charlieyoule8007 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jared. I got time to contact Pirelli in England as I was unable to track down a 245 75 16 AT+ for the Discovery IIa, and after nearly a week I eventually get a response they only do a 245 70 16 in an XL which turns out to be 2 ply wall.
      This not ideal for a Land Rover weighing some 2750 kg, although KO2 seem to be a popular alternative, I am not yet convinced, and looking into the first hand experiences of owners of this tyre.
      I would like to have considered the ATW3 but again it is not available in the country, so now looking an RT such as the Kuhmo MT51 as a different route to replace the old BFGs.
      I was not able to get an answer as to why the LT version of the the AT+ here.

    Good sidewall strength?

    • @TyreReviewVideos
      @TyreReviewVideos  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, they seem pretty good - unmounted they have good strength in comparison to some other AT's, but we didn't run any trials on staking or anything. In terms of road handling, they held up really well, so that could be another indicator of good sidewall strength.

    how are these tyres in sloppy mud?

    • @TyreReviewVideos
      @TyreReviewVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As ATs go, I found them pretty good. I remember one section in particular on the west coast of Tassie where other vehicles had got hung up, however I managed to get through without getting stuck. They have pretty big voids in the tread (again, for ATs), and seem to clear okay, so if you're looking for an AT that can handle some mucky stuff I wouldn't steer away from these. ~Jared

      @TyreReviewVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @TyreReviewVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wicked, I'm interested to hear how you go. I don't have a huge amount of experience with tyres and rock crawling - does it come down to the strength of the sidewall, or how it flexes and conforms, or it's puncture resistance? It's not something we get a huge amount of opportunity for down here, unfortunately.

      @@TyreReviewVideos appreciate the transparency. I think it's all of the above that contribute to durability and how long it can withstand abuse. I chose these tires because they will be on some remblance of a road 95% of the time! That other 5% is just a test!! You can always avoid obstacles and getting stuck if you want to!
