    Just to let everyone know, when the 727 TF came out in 62 (that's 1962 lol) the standard 2nd gear lever was 3.2, the HP lever was 4.2 (max wedge) in 67 the 440 hp was the first 3.8, the 66 HEMI was 5.0, so all the parts that are used today are from the early 727's.... The HEMI has a different 2nd gear band and drum, i don't know if it will work in the 47/48's though. It is truly a big timing game for the shifts so not to burn any frictions and still hold as was stated. The very crucial part of the shifting is the 2-3 shift. That's the timing part. Chrysler states their should be some overlap, and we are talking micro seconds. So not to get a raise in RPM. Just some more info.

    Ok one note. The "sprag" is actually an element just like an applied clutch. In drive 1st it applys as the drum tries to counter rotate. So in first its the forward clutch( wich is applied in all forward gears ,hence the name).and the sprag(one way roller clutch that are applied

    • @horsetorquesdiesel
      @horsetorquesdiesel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never said it wasn’t, obviously it can only rotate one way, hence one way sprag. It’s just a huge weak point at higher power level, which is why I explained the lr band

    Great tech info! Cool to see some of the internals up close! FMVB for the win! Definitely worth taking it to a builder that knows what they are doing when you put the money into those parts inside it. Also key to do the proper maintenance and realize there isn't a transmission out there that can't be broken with abuse and that it may tolerate it for a while but not indefinitely. Thanks again for sharing the knowledge.

    Thanks for explaining how the shifting works. Occasionally when my 47rh is cold and shifts from 1st to 2nd, I get nothing. My rpm goes up but the trany will not engage, I have to stop, shift to park and then back into drive before the trany will engage. Only happens in the winter when temps are close to 40f and trans hasn't warmed up.

    I appreciate your comments on the transmission fluid you didn’t try to hack anybody’s product you were very professional about it are use Amsoil products their transmission fluid is outstanding for example they did a field study in Las Vegas about 34 years ago I can’t remember it’s been a little while and they ran a taxi cab a dodge charger is a V-6 and I treated had what I call the police package the heavy radiator and stuff like that they ran 186,000 miles without changing of fluid oh by the way they started off with a brand new car and the fluid was still in excellent condition and so is the transmission and according to the computer on the car they were averaging 27 mph so yeah I’m sure PDD has very good fluid and the fluid you’re buying it’s got a meat spec so it’s gonna do a good job even though it’s not as expensive as the other stuff it Hass to meats back and anyway it’s a six in a row gym from Kennerdell Pennsylvania thank you for that tutorial it was very informative

      Im right there with ya, ill stick with my manual nv5600. 0-60 eventually haha but itll pull a house down. -Every automatic guy at one point wishes he had a manual transmission, guys with a manual transmission never look at their buddies and say ‘dang gummit you know i really wished i had a automatic transmission’, said no one ever. -A manual is a ‘mansmission’
      -A 6 speed is the best anti theft device.
      -in the forums and on fb groups the top 2 asked questions are, ‘how much does it cost to manual swap my truck?’
      And how hard is it and what do i need to manual swap my automatic truck?’
      Not ever do you hesr anyone asking, how hard is it to rebuild my auromatic trans? Or what doni need to rebuild my automatic trans? People are automatically scared of them! Ha! In auto/ diesel school i was really good with the autos in transmission class, even passed the ASE test for transmissions the first time! Theres good money in it. I just wont ever habe another one. My ‘06 mega cab was an auto and after it ill never have another. All my first gens have been getrags, and my second gen ‘02 HO 24v is a 5600 6 speed, that ive done a few bullet proofin and upgrades for
      Longevity and extra fluid capacity. Always over fill a nv5600 from the top by removing the shift tower and dumping in an extra qt or 2. Ive heard one extra wt, ive heard 2 extra qts. *shrug*.
      The genos garage ‘cool-it’s finned pto coolers add an extra quart per side.

    Question for ya if you could give me any free advice I'd appreciate it. My truck doesn't always shift down into first gear. When it does you feel it kick. When it doesn't it stays in 2nd. I have replaced the speed sensor and upgraded my shift solenoid to the GM Conversion. Adjusted the bands to book spec with out any luck. Would a transmission flush potentially solve that problem if the internals are dirty? Or is it another problem? All other gears are fine. Great video!

    Where do you get the spacer for the intermediate shaft the different color ones I think there is red blue and yellow I always have hard time finding them.
    Do you use a flat snap ring in the direct drum or the wave and what clearance do you set it up at I was told .100

    • @markrich3271
      @markrich3271 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was told between .085 and .095 . It's dependent and a few things though. Servo style , apply lever, direct clutch count, valve body setup , 2nd gear band setup .

    • @Fullerperformance01
      @Fullerperformance01 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mopar still had some spacers available last time I checked. Your clearance plays into the shift timing. Lots of variables. But like Mark said .085-.095 is a good place to start. And if you go w a flat snap ring in the direct it will firm the shift up a little.
