- "y" and "w" are not strictly considered initials (consonants) in Pinyin because they function as semivowels or glides. They transition smoothly into the following vowel without significant obstruction in the vocal tract, behaving more like vowels than true consonants.

The most weird obstacle to study Chinese is "tones" for me.
But,hanzi is a bit similar to me coz I am a Japanese.
Japanese kanji and Chinese hanzi have same or similar figure that point is advantage to learn Chinese for me.

@@Leesol_7 Chinese people use Chinese characters when we read or write. Pinyin is used for little kids who don’t know many characters and also for typing characters.
